    When I saw the title, I thought to myself: is this some kind of joke?
    Before watching: what connection can wood craftsmanship and watchmaking have? Let's see...
    After watching: the connection may by very tight!
    How accurate is this clock? ;)

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  Před 2 lety +3

      Thank you for your comment, think of it as a decorative clock rather than an accurate time piece! it will delay 2 to 3 minutes a day, not bad though for a wooden clock I believe 🙂

      @@TheWoodCrafter1 Hmmmmm, if so, wouldn't it be worth trying a simple quartz stabilizer? If, it seems to me, it actually has an electric drive. The Chinese sell such handouts almost for pennies.
      One of the American universities currently generates the most accurate time pattern in the world (as one-second pulses), many orders more accurate than an atomic clock. It would be fun to synchronize this clock with them...
      But even more fun, I suppose, it would be quite serious to answer a question like mine: "this clock is stabilized by a pulsar frequency" and therefore it is the MOST ACCURATE CLOCK IN THE WORLD, and to observe the listener's face. :)))
      P. S. By no means was my goal the slightest criticism. When I saw a PCB, I assumed it was a quartz stabilizer. Therefore, I expected a response like: "a few second per month" or so. And I treated the question itself as a joke.
      I perfectly understand that the most important goal is aesthetics, and a bit of showing off your own skills. Both were great. For me, the difficulty level is so abstract that I watch this clock like Michelangelo's sculptures. I don't even dream of trying something so difficult!
      A bit inaccurate? Who really cares? :))) First of all, it is beautiful and unique. You can always take care of accuracy in the second step. If questions like mine end up annoying you.
      For me, you are a great master and each of your works carries the stigma of perfection!

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  Před 2 lety +1

      @andrzej3511 that wasn’t a quartz stabilizer actually, it is a tilting switch, I have later on replaced it with a mercury tilting switch for better performance, and the only thing it does is to lift the pendulum of the clock and let the weight of the pendulum itself to drive the clock mechanism, pretty clever design isn’t it? 😊 not mine though!
      Also, I never felt offended by any comment, I am trying to share something that I love making with people who might share the same interest with me and of course there are other people who doesn’t.
      Yet I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your comment and learned things that I didn’t know 🤝 Thank you for your time

    Your woodworking skills are very impressive
    As it happens, I have just bought the plans for this clock before I even saw your video
    Your video is really useful as reference for building the clock
    I am just as fascinated in studying your various techniques and tools you use as well, so all round your video has been a huge skill learning exercise as well.
    I do have a few questions to ask you abiout the clock and your workshop/techniques in general as that would help me with the clock build immensely but the youtube channel is probably not the best place for this.

    Wow, great craftmanship. Couple of questions. What was your work holding technique in the CNC? There are no clamps apparent. Also in the CNC work, what thickness of stock-to-remain do you aim for that you later need to cut and sand off by hand? Does this thickness depend on the size of the part? Thanks for sharing a great video.

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for watching, I was using 0.04” thicker than the targeted thickness of 3/4” for some parts and used the same ratio for thinner parts also. I used a strong double sided tape to hold the workpiece on the CNC sacrificial board which in turn is clamped to the CNC table, you can also use tabs if you don’t have a drum sander to reach the desired thickness, this way you don’t need to use thicker stock. Note that sanding by hand was only used to remove the milling bit marks and never to reduce the thickness of the parts. Hope this will help you. You can buy the plans for this clock and many others from Clayton clock website. Good luck
