    After watching this video several times I decided to replace the blown bulbs in my 2004 Mondeo dashboard as it had black spots. I'm a novice and found it easy to do, the whole job took 1hr 15mins from start to finish. now I have a lovely well lit dashboard again. Thanks for the brilliant video.

    A couple of tips (having just replaced a few bulbs in mine).
    **Remove the little drawer, fully open it and pull upwards, it'll pop up at the bottom and the bottom will then swing out (no need to force or bend anything) (Not strictly necessary but it does make life easier).
    Remove the 5 screws and the bottom panel as shown - and the air temperature sensor.
    **Don't bother with the torx screws on the steering column - the top will easily pop off upwards with a little levering.
    Remove the four screws holding the cluster trim and steering column cover. Once these are out pull the plastic towards you. It's well clipped on but will pop open.
    Remove the instrument cluster screws and pull out from the bottom, the cable will inhibit you so don't pull it too hard. Their is a little clip to push in before opening the lever.
    Make sure the bulb holders are the right way round... I put one of mine in upside down and it didn't work.
    Great video - some absolutely top advice in it and it made my job a dream.

    I was in the exact same situation as you with my Vectra...I had one bulb blown so decided to replace the lot with blue LED's. Like yours, mine were quite dim so I had to buy some super bright ones to compensate and for a short while, I was happy with them. Then they randomly started to flicker on/off or die completely. They were driving me nuts, I lost count how many times I took the dash apart to fix them. In the end I took them all out and replaced them with a brand new set of standard bulbs and haven't had a single problem since then. Sorry but I thought I should mention it before you end up spending half the winter pulling the dash apart time and time again like I did.

  • @scrapyardwarriorvlogging

    I think the problem with changing the bulbs for the blue LED's is the fact that the perspex face of the dials has a green-coloured backing which when normal bulbs are installed gives the green backlighting as normal. What people have done is install some aftermarket white dials, say from Lockwood, and THEN put the blue LED's in and that will then give you a decent blue backlight effect. Hope that helps.

      @retrorestore  Před 9 lety

    The green is most likely transparent green ink printed on the back of the plastic. Sometimes it can be removed with mentholated spirt .if this doesn't work your only option would be scrap it away, I know this because I'm a printer buy traded and have printed hundreds for BMW, Mercedes ,ect but not on fords I must admit but I would guess it's a smiler process.
    Hope this helps bud

    You'll have to split the binnacle apart to see what's going on as it varies depending upon the manufacturer, etc. Often there's a coloured filter plastic that you will probably have to remove, I really can't remember if I've had one of those apart or not.

      @@retrorestore That's pretty odd and disturbing.
      I've owned a MK3 since 2011 and never known there to be one.
      Now after all of these years a MOT guy tells me it should be there and of course working. Nobody ever raised this as a problem in the past, so I guess I just got lucky and now the luck ran out.
      Thanks for the info'.. 👍

    hi again, ive got two questions for you, the overhead lights for driver and passenger side, is there a set way to take off the housing to get to the bulbs. Also, im certain my car has the footwell lights but where are they located precisely, im going to be doing this when the parts arrive. Thanks

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  Před 8 lety

      +Tool2142 I just pulled them out. The footwell lights are in the centre of the footwell bar. it's just a flush bulb holder.

    I turn the lights but somedays , not all (!) they go out totally. If I turno off and on again they come back but only for some seconds to black out again . But somedays works fine. This includes also the lights from the air conditioning . what should be the problem? fuse ?

    • @retrorestore

    • @retrorestore

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  Před 7 lety

      You might have accidently shorted something out. Hard to say without being there i'm afraid. Check the fuses.

    • @ajaygauravelly4030
      @ajaygauravelly4030 Před 7 lety

      retrorestore which fuse Martin.now two bulbs the far right obes speedo and fuel level come on but the left 2 which are revs and heater level don't come on

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  Před 7 lety

      the bulb holders are a bit temperamental, they might just need a slight twist to make the bulbs come on.

    • @ajaygauravelly4030
      @ajaygauravelly4030 Před 7 lety

      retrorestore tried fuses bulbs and they r not coming on.might have shorted something like you said.
      now the problem I have is the clip which levers or pushes the multi pin connector out is not pushing it out a nd the connector is struck in there solid.😱

    • @retrorestore

    The green is most likely transparent green ink printed on the back of the plastic. Sometimes it can be removed with mentholated spirt .if this doesn't work your only option would be scrap it away, I know this because I'm a printer buy traded and have printed hundreds for BMW, Mercedes ,ect but not on fords I must admit but I would guess it's a smiler process.
    Hope this helps bud
