Very reliable, especially the 2.0 TDCI with 115 and 130hp, but basically every diesel engines. Our Mondeo MK3 2.2 TDCI has 405.000km on the clock now and we didn't even had to spend much repair costs. Very reliable, I love it. :) the only typical diesel problem could be egr. If you have any questions feel free to ask. :)

Hi! A diesel engine needs to work more in the sense that they do not need to be reved up like a petrol. You constantly go up to 4000 revs which will destroy the engine very quickly. Find your max.Torque RPM;s and use that as your guide. There is plenty of performance up to 3000rpm ,It is better to change gear early which uses the massive torque of the Diesel and it also results in 48 to 52 mpg. About 4.8 to 5 liters every 100 kilometers. My TDCI tended to use less in 5th gear at a slower speed.People who rev the guts out end up destroying their injectors and at up to Euro500 each no joke is not clever.Change oil each year around 10000 to 12000 kilometers should stop sludgeing int the hoses and EGR which will need cleaning every so often. The flexiekonnection on the exhaust pipe just behind the gearbox will break up so put new on,easy job with hoist.Brake pipes going over the rear axel beam need attention they rust easy similar to the fuel lines beside the fuel tank check them and clean and or fit new.Alternator belt is pretty durable check it often over longish time.Rear handbrake links and cables need regular attention.Rear wheel beariings are cheap and they can last a long time front also good and most parts are economically priced so one will keep this car for 40 odd years or more if the rust is attended.Great car and it has Jackie Stewarts heritage in it and he raced against the worlds best and beat them when drivers were used since the technology was not there, they were and are drivers with skill.Stewart drove against Jimmy Clark,Stirling Moss and more! Great Driver and Technologist in Fast Cars. Be Blessed ALL. This Mondeo is a Legend it after all produced the Mondeo Cult. Look after your Mondeo's.

I think he knows how to treat a diesel engine. Reving up to 4000rpm a few times is okay but not necessary or good. It will not destroy the engine but it's pointless and the injectors lifespan may be shortened. We own a Mondeo MK3 2.2 TDCi and it is really powerful, you never need to go over 3000rpm, 1700-2400rpm are fine on the highway, you can drive even around 1200-1800rpm in the city and it is absolutely fine. It has 405.000km's on the clock and we never needed to change the injectors, clutch or something. We really like our Mondeo and keep care of it. It is very reliable, only problem is egr which is typical for diesel engines, but apart from that we didn't have much problems or high repair costs. :)
