The Mecca Royal Clock Tower is hard to ignore. At over 600m tall, some consider it a marvel of engineering but others fear the opulent commercialisation of a religious site. As tradition and modernity collide, the late King Abdullah showed a determination to put pilgrims first. "This is Mecca, no work is to be done here" he said. "The most important thing to me is that spirituality is preserved".

it's his house (room of Aisha) ... Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was buried like any of us .. with a coffin around his body and buried in the ground
either way ... whats in Mecca couple of decades ago was old messed up housings that to be honest look VERY BAD
it's like Favela in Brazil or any poor people neighborhoods .. it's a sour to the eyes to look at these disturbing buildings in the holy city of Mecca
because of all those who come to perform Hajj and then decide to stay and never go back to their home country .. most of them are illegals
so they get poorly made houses that you can take down the wall with a single kick
thankfully the government stepped up and improved every thing in Mecca and Mena and elsewhere to make Hajj and Umra as comfortable as possible
and i have no idea why some people think they are more careful to Mecca than its people ?
we care about it and pay 100's of billions through out the decades to improve everything .. so relax people we got this

I am a Muslim, and I totally agree with you, this building is massive and ugly and the same description applies on the next phases about to be constructed in Makkah, but here is the thing, demolishing old buildings for the purpose of expansion is a necessity, the idea of some comments mentioned concerning preserving and restoring, to be honest in Islam the value of objects is not of value as long it serves the visitors.
I wish they could design buildings that are functional and not flashy... I mean I lived in Makkah when the minarats of the Haram were the tallest and most magnificent construction in Makkah, and it was beautiful, then those other huge constructions came out of no where and ruined the scene!!!!

I am not Muslim, nor even particularly religious, but I can certainly recognise that Mecca is a culturally important place for not just Islam, but ALL humanity. For you and for others who just want to write comments about others, you know that there are more than one and half billion Muslims around the globe who want to visit makkah (this is the correct name). How can they visit without a mass infrastructure from such as hotels, highways, metro and so on. Any body can get a video camera and a mike and talk about anything without knowledge. Small ones happen first and large ones after. About 90% of the small ones already happened, that means we are getting closer, but the end will not come until all the small signs are done and the big ones as well. The things is, the big signs happens quickly one after another. Some of those signs are the sun rising from the west, the anti-crist coming out and Jesus coming down back to earth.

    • @yannick245

Yeah, it looks tenfold larger. Also couldn't they have a zone around the holy site without KFC's, five story malls, Pizza Hut, Al-Baik, McDonald's and whatever. I bet the mall houses a Gucci store. Imagine that in the Vatican. In Rome itself I don't see a big problem, although I don't like it. But couldn't they just built the Tower and all the _"amusement"_ things a bit away from the Kaaba, so it won't block the sight.
I know that the 21st century needs new solutions to accommodate the loads pilgrims. But this is like making Mecca an _"islamic Disney World"._

O my respected sister, I am happy to know that you are studying the Holy Quran and doing research. I am praying to Almighty Allah to guide you. O sister, you read Surah Maryam, Surah Al-Imran, Surah Bani Israel, Surah Al-Maida, Surah An-Nisa, Surah Tawbah, Surah Hud, will do a little more research on these surahs. There you will get the identity of your Lord and if you identify yourself as a Christian then you will get the identity of Jesus Christ i.e. Isa alaihis salam and if you are a Jew then you will get the identity of Musa alaihis salam and your original or real Lord Allah Almighty will get the identity. Go, sister, we are the children of one Adam and Eve, created from the bone of his left rib, who are scattered all over the world, all of them are the children of that one Adam and Eve. Go, O Allah, guide this sister like me and give her the small right path to accept you as Lord. Amen. Ya Rabbil Alamin.

O my dear sister. You have presented an aspect in your writing. That which torments your heart, you are repeatedly stung by the sting of your conscience. Like you, I was also studying the Holy Quran. I was also shocked then. Saying that what are the instructions of the Quran? And the vast majority of Muslims in the world are going in which way. I became very protestant. I asked the Muslims to study their Holy Quran and learn from it. Many people listened to my words as if enchanted. But soon it would be the same again. What is the reason? Then I researched this matter. Then I saw and understood that what is the main reason for people to deviate from the Holy Quran? After researching, I also found that Mr. Iblish and his forces are involved in the root of all this. In other words, he has come to the Almighty Allah as a challenge, saying that He will leave all the people of the world in hell. This is his promise before the Almighty Allah. But the Almighty Allah then told him that - no, you cannot go near my servants. Then I did more research. Then I tried to know who are the servants of Allah and in my research I also learned that the servants of Allah are very few in number. This is why Satan can make more of his followers. O sister, do you want to be a follower of Satan. Or do you want to be a follower of God, the only creator of the universe. I hope you want to be a follower of Almighty Allah. Therefore, my respected sister. It is my humble request that you recite these words to Almighty Allah every day before going to sleep.

    • @MOHAMMADALI-lf7hu
      @MOHAMMADALI-lf7hu Před 5 měsíci

That is to say, O my Lord, O my Lord, I do not know correctly whether you are God or Allah. But what I know from researching the Quran is that you are the creator of this creation, Almighty Allah. Now I pray to you, if you are truly the creator of creation, then make me your follower. Or if there is any other god or creator in the world then my prayer to him is to make me his follower. That is, I want to be a follower of the original creator. O sister, you must say these words every day before going to sleep. InshAllah then you will see with your heart and soul and understand with your conscience. After that, the identity of the true creator will definitely be found. O Allah, I am a complete stranger to Muhammad Ali, please guide this respected sister. Amen. Ya Rabbil Alamin.

As a Muslim, we learn in eschatology, one of the signs of the end of the world is that the time will cast its shadow over kaaba and quite literally now the shadow of the top of this building sometimes during certain season casts over the kaaba and while from far this looks more grandeur than kaaba, being there, one does not really feel awe except being reminded of the prophecies of the end of times including, the emergence of tunnels in Makkah (hadith saying, holes piercing through the hills)
Also, is the prophecy of 'barefooted ones, the naked, the destitute, the herdsmen of the sheep (competing with each other) in raising lofty buildings.' where Arabs start competing in building high-rise skyscrapers.
We might differ on Jesus's divinity but this to us, means his Second Coming is also imminent as the Antichrist/Dajjal will soon appear.
(I reply to no hatred comments as I'm here to share knowledge - also by sharing this, doesn't mean I am scared and doesn't mean the signs are all but good. Some signs are bad such as prevalence of homosexuality, mass murders, nakedness but some are good such as high rise buildings and transports beyond time)

What is it with a lot of muslims having zero taste in aesthetics? I lived for years near an area with lots of muslims and all their shops, and mosques etc were completely covered in cheap tacky lights and signage in nasty bright colours that would fall apart and fade within a year.
Edit for all the dullards that keep commenting: My comment is not about historic Islamic architecture which I agree can be very beautiful but how muslims of many nationalities in my area choose to decorate their shops and places of worship as stated above.

I'm Muslim and I agree on what you said but I suggest to you to go visit Alhambra in spain for example to see the real Muslim taste 500 years ago at that time Europeans were in the dark ages. Nowadays Muslims do not have good taste because they are mostly very poor and illiterate, you know any civilization has a life cycle.

Its normal to have Tall Buildings in Mecca as compared to other part of the world. Its a sign that the world is moving towards the END. The dry desert surrounding mecca is now also turning green which also sign of the end of the world. So many other signs but people choose to close their eyes. May Allah protect us.
Abu Hurayra(Radiyallahu Anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The Final Hour will not come until people COMPETE WITH ONE ANOTHER in the height of their buildings.”
