Afte Minotaur myth Thesheus left Ariadne on the island, when she fell asleep. She wakes up, only to see boat in the horizon. She shouts Thesheus’ name and uses her cloak to wave, but he doesn’t come back for her. Ariadne falls on her knees crying. God Dionysus noticed her and falls in love with the girl. He aproches her and proposes, she agrees to marry him. They fell in love, he takes her to olympus where she bacomes immortal Goddess. They have few kids together and live happily (unlike thesheus).

The funny thing is the fact there were several stories of what led to Thesus to abandon her.
In most interpretations, he did it cus Apollo through his Oracle told Thesus they are not meant to be, and Thesus went home heartbroken: which led to him to forget to change the sails for his return which killed his father.
Some say it's because Ariadne was the original mother of Dionysus, others its because Ariadne's tactics to throw off her father was outright inhumane (she convinced her brother to run away with the Athenians with her, and she cut him up and scattered his parts into the ocean to slow her father down by making him go to retrieve it). Regardless, all signs basically points to Thesus being played up as a youth who was made to give up his first love cus divine intervention.
Whether he had feelings for Ariadne or not is highly debated
