he was already working on that design when he was at gbrs. thats how they already know about it,same with his optic laser high mount. they arent stealing ideas from his instagram. also in the video u mention he says they have been working on a cheek riser.
It’s also 3D printed which is IMHO LuLz; if you believe in it nut up like Magpul and make a hard tool for injection molding. Also you can’t charge your rifle past a certain point of the buttstock collapse. Not a GBRS specific thing but a bummer about those risers on anything that isn’t side charging.

I think he was just being petty to hurt Slade after he left and started SC Irregulars.

It was the timing with which DJ made the statement that was suspect. Right after SC Irregulars released their riser DJ deemed them irrelevant. And then GBRS released their own riser. A charitable interpretation would be he saw a market for risers and it’s just capitalism. The uncharitable interpretation would be it was a petty jab at Slade’s product after he left GBRS on bad terms. I’ve personally shot without risers and 2.26” height optics quite a bit. A little while ago I started using a riser. That part comes down to personal preference. If you’re used to a chin weld it takes some getting used to but I’ve personally come to prefer the added touch point of a cheek weld even at CQB ranges.

There is a method to the madness. GBRS just took it to the extreme (in more ways than one). Taller optic means you have a taller heads up display. The cheek riser is because w/out it, if you keep your stock in the right place you have a chin weld. With the cheek riser you have a cheek weld. All that said $349.99 (used to be $549) for a 2.91” cerakoted soda can metal mount is insane. Height and price. A case could be made the height is good for passive aiming with night vision but I don’t know many people doing that.

DJ is speaking from experience as a SEAL. 99% of us arent SEALs and dont "operate". For those that compete a riser just might be ideal. That's for each individual to determine. Just saying.
The AR platform has everything directly in line with the bore. Simply adding less riser to your sight would provide for a better cheek weld with an AR than some gimmicky product that catches your beard hairs anyway. The AR needs no cheek riser for a 50mm scopr mounted up on their rails. Cheek weld on a SOPMOD stock is great for basically every sight you can have on the gun.

Being a good operator doesn’t automatically make you a good teacher. When I was younger I was extremely lucky. I wrestled and did mma for a while and I trained at a gym where the top ten in both would regularly flow in and out. Some of the best fighters I trained with were horrible teachers and vice versa. Point being, people hear “DEVGRU” or “CAG” and assume everything that follows, no matter how ridiculous is gospel.

Companies can brand their name/logo on products that other companies have already done for their own customers if it's something that people are interested in buying from their company. It's all about diversifying your inventory as well for your customer base. Soo.. why wouldn't they make their own branded riser? This applies to pretty much everything from basic apparel to slings, risers, etc. At the end of the day if you aren't a fan of GBRS then that's cool, don't buy from them. Support other companies instead. I support both Slade/Irregulars and GBRS along with other companies that sell similar products. They parted ways, and the guy in the first clip went on to create his own business and designed his own cheek riser. Not even a month later, dirty dan in the second clip releases a video saying that cheek risers are useless, obviously trying to hurt the sales of the first guy. Then they release cheek risers eventually. You shouldn't be making comments or equivalencies on things you know nothing about.

There is a method to the madness. GBRS just took it to the extreme (in more ways than one). Taller optic means you have a taller heads up display. The cheek riser is because w/out it, if you keep your stock in the right place you have a chin weld. With the cheek riser you have a cheek weld.
All that said $349.99 (used to be $549) for a 2.91” cerakoted soda can metal mount is insane. Height and price. A case could be made the height is good for passive aiming with night vision but I don’t know many people doing that.
Or go back to the 90s and use a carry handle like delta did then. My only question is how does that high mount work in the prone position.

I get that Slade deserves the credit for his design but there’s gonna be a million out there and we’ve been rigging our own setups for a raised cheek weld when using an elevated optic for quite some time now. It’s nothing new it’s just a topic of contention because of the money involved now.

The AR platform has everything directly in line with the bore. Simply adding less riser to your sight would provide for a better cheek weld with an AR than some gimmicky product that catches your beard hairs anyway.
The AR needs no cheek riser for a 50mm scopr mounted up on their rails. Cheek weld on a SOPMOD stock is great for basically every sight you can have on the gun.

Is no one going to mention where blur man says he doesn’t take precision shots with a rifle? I get it that it’s not a bolt action, but when you have to use it for self defense or defense of others in the real world, and not on a flat range, you better be making precision shots with it.
Being a good operator doesn’t automatically make you a good teacher. When I was younger I was extremely lucky. I wrestled and did mma for a while and I trained at a gym where the top ten in both would regularly flow in and out. Some of the best fighters I trained with were horrible teachers and vice versa. Point being, people hear “DEVGRU” or “CAG” and assume everything that follows, no matter how ridiculous is gospel.

The charitable interpretation is yours. DJ changed his mind or he just realized there was a market for them when Slade’s started selling out. The uncharitable interpretation is it was a petty jab at Slade. After all DJ did call SWAT on Slade as he was packing up his things to leave GBRS so I wouldn’t put pettiness past him.
The price for the product is the real crime. Also, just because one person comes out with the product first doesn’t mean that they stole it. Who know who had the idea first. I mean I get what you're saying here but at the same time, people can change their opinions on things. I mean, that's growth. I don't have a problem with the free market either. Companies can brand their name/logo on products that other companies have already done for their own customers if it's something that people are interested in buying from their company. It's all about diversifying your inventory as well for your customer base. Soo.. why wouldn't they make their own branded riser? This applies to pretty much everything from basic apparel to slings, risers, etc. At the end of the day if you aren't a fan of GBRS then that's cool, don't buy from them. Support other companies instead. I support both Slade/Irregulars and GBRS along with other companies that sell similar products. It's not that big of a deal to me personally who comes out with what first. Rather who executes it best.
