I think this is a pretty bad joke, they've been historically a reliable carrier, while I don't fly them often as I'm based in Singapore, times that I travel to the states, they have been providing consistent service, and their MRO have been really resourceful and reliable
The real issue is shoddy workmanship which, due to America's focus on "Diversity and Equity" along with graduating 2 generations of participation trophy winners, is only going to get worse in every field. Just had a friend wake up in the middle of surgery and then ended up with a big jagged scar because an "Empowered Woman of Color" couldn't measure dosage or draw a straight line. Fortunately my friend did wake up. The same phenomenon is going on in every industry. But doors and engine cowlings blowing off in-flight, MCAS software turning your aircraft into a roller coaster, and inspectors covering it up for profit is incompetence overlaid with corruption. It's intolerable and more lives will be lost.

A cathay pilot once told me that their a333 were sometimes a gamble with HK weather as its hot and humid. But still it seems Cathay has no issues. I dont think the choice is solely related to climate as the climate is hot and dry in the middle east which isnt as bad. But nevertheless i doubt they can go wrong with any widebody on the market atm.

777x is a good alternative option If you have a backlog of A350. A330 neo as a viable alternative. For instance if you Aer lingus and you need to renew your trans Atlantic fleet. The A339 will give you enough range to cover from San Fran to Dublin.

@user-xk8ix9qu7l Because it burns 7.2T per hour starting at MTOW against 6.2T for the A350-1000. So it burns an extra TONNE per hour. And that's because it is basically doing the same mission but lugging and extra 26 TONNES of structure to do that.
We can discuss endless which of them is better A350 or 777X, but one thing we know for sure, nothing is so comfort as B777-series for passengers. Whether it's a first class, business or premium economy. 777 utilizes more comfortable interior than A350, simply becacause it's wider.
So actually no...from several studies the plane that is frequently ranked the most comfortable is the a380... Between the two, the 777 and a350, would only had two caveats - more airlines use the 777 (so passangers have had a lot more time to get used to the 777), and in terms of parameters you can measure (noise, lighting when lights on/off, seat dimensions, etc) the 777 wins some loses other - its a matter of preference...and customers prefer the a380😅
A350 has lower cabin altitude, and the standard eco config of 3-3-3 is much nicer than the 777s standard 3-4-3. On most airlines I’d say the A350 is much more comfortable.

More to do with Addis Abbaba being over 7,500 feet (2,300 mtrs) ASL, that moderates the climate, and makes the city more habitable. But for aircraft, the V2 speed is increased, or the capacity on take-off and landing is reduced. The extended wing 777, with more powerful engines, would go some way to ameliorating this.
These may not be real orders but possibly just a PR exercise for Boeing. Many of these orders never materialize and are shown to be placed just to bring about the right noises for the product. The 777X is not even getting delivered for a long time to come. Plus Ethiopian already has the A350. This looks really questionable to me.
