    When attempting to play quicker fills or grooves but they end up sounding a little clunky - it usually means that one hand is lagging behind the other, preventing you from performing the pattern evenly and consistently. Your dominant hand will most likely always be a little quicker and more controlled than your weaker hand, however these exercises were designed to close that gap as much as possible.
    In this video, I demonstrate these exercises using his left hand, however these work just as well for your right. Do these for 10 days straight and you’ll notice massive improvements!

I’ve been practicing for probably an hour per sitting mind you, but I can’t believe how much faster and more controlled I’ve become in such a short time!!! • @boringuserhandle
    @boringuserhandle Před 11 lety +2

    A couple of things I've realised since trying these
    1) Beats and patterns that would be REALLY simple with a right lead are much harder than I though with left lead.
    2) It is VERY difficult to consistently hit my floor tom going left hand over right hand.
    Good exercises though. I'm also doing the blast beat ones and using my left foot in those to help build that up too.
    Thanks!

    Really the best thing for your weak hand and weak foot is to learn what you also do with your strong hand and strong foot.. and I recommend this to every novice drummer!!!! turn your drum set around, put the string and the hi hat on the right and floor on the left, so turn everything over and play 1 hour on the left, then turn around and return to the right in the normal position, you will notice that your level has suddenly increased by 30% in 1 session . I do it and wow that's it .. indeed that's it I did the rhythms with your left hand also on the ride or hi-hat etc. really wonderful if one can play the drums on the left as well as on the right!!

    I love that learning other instruments helps you take little anecdotes to the rest. I learned on piano to let your left hand learn from your right. In other words, play all these exercises while the right hand is doing exactly the same thing in sync. Your left hand adjusts to how your right hand is doing it. You will learn it twice as fast..

    For some reason even though I started learning leading through right hand, there was this hiatus from classes due to studies and stuff. When I started again, it was without any classes.
    For some reason, my body tuned itself to a left hand lead. My fills always start from my left, my crashes come on my left. It really makes accessing the other parts of the kit a bit tough.
    Y'll trying to teach your left hand and I'm trying to teach my right hand. Feel so screwed cause it feels super awkward.
    I play grooves with my right hand on the hihat no probs. When I do a fill, I switch to left. So when I get back to the groove, I start with the left and then switch to my right. This works on my electric kit as I don't have to reach out but I struggle on acoustic as a result.....
    Hopefully this helps my right hand to get to shape 🤞

    Day 7, exercises 3 and 4 have been the best help with control and consistency on left hand. I sometimes bring in the right hand to match the strokes of the left, seems like the right helps to 'train' the left.

    Hey Jared, I'm a left handed drummer, so sometimes I am at an inconvenience when it comes to playing on other people's kits. Also I would not consider either hand to be weaker; although my left is used more, my right can do some things in grooves that the left can't. I have been trying to become an ambidextrous drummer. This video helps, but could you do a video at some point on exercises for developing all limbs equally and developing ambidexterity? Thanks. These videos are a great help!

    Hey I had a question about this. I've been practicing this for about two to three weeks now and I notice my left hand hurts after playing. Its kinda effecting the rest of my practice because it hurts to use my left hand. I was practicing this seconds ago and it was hurting and it started to hurt a little in my forearm as well. I've been trying to play with tight grips or what I usually play which is fairly loose. I really don't know if I'm doing something wrong in this exercise because it feels fine throughout the day its just when I drum it gets difficult because of the cramping or whatever it is. Thank you

    Non-cast earplugs will eventually fall out on any drummer. Beyond that, they tend to be better at blocking the high register. This isn't that much of a problem for someone who can cue by count, or does a lot of studio work. If you're like me and cue off vocals and melody, and do primarily live work, molds are the way to go. You can get them made for less than a good cymbal. The audiologist I found actually did them for less than the online DIY molds. I highly suggest!
