  • It's been about three weeks since I've been able to run, mostly because of weather and waiting on things to dry out. I really like the new "Fresh Park" ramp it is VERY strong and heavy with a nice curve that provides a good kick at the top... I actually broke another diff on a fairly easy run. I just ordered new Vitavon gears from China, (front and rear 10-32 teeth) because I couldn't find them anywhere else right now and go figure, they are spiral cut gears. Lol, they are not as aggressive with the spiral cut as the gears I have now so I will give them a shot. I am considering going back with the stock Traxxas gears for now until the Vitavon sets comes in, should be around April 15th. I kept saying "Vivaton" instead of "Vitavon" for some reason, transposing the "t" anf the "v" and no one has said anything. Please correct me if you hear me say something stupid like that in the future... I have four sets of stock Traxxas gears and two more sets of the cheap spiral gears I found on eBay which I will NEVER buy again. I am so very sorry for recommending those gears to anyone. They are made of hardened steel but they are very thin in comparison to the stock and Vivaton gears which I didn't realize until my first breakage. I'm wondering if packing the diffs with 20 million weight diff fluid is a big factor in these diffs not lasting as they should. I used to do the same thing to all of my rc's. My Losi's, Associated buggys and trucks and I never had an issue with hard racing and bashing until this XRT unless it was from a huge crash or jump which rarely resulted in a broken diff. Even the XMaxx is still on the stock gears and both differentials are packed with 20 million weight diff fluid for 15 months now and not one problem. Ha, I say that now... No big deal it's all part of this hobby. I have checked both the upper and lower rear bulkheads many times now looking for something broke or flexing that may be creating slack inbetween the gears and they are both looking good so far. Maybe I should just get another XRT then murder this one and use it for parts, from the very first run it has been breaking gears, hmmm... Thanks For Watching Everybody!

    I really didn't notice gear grind until about 3/4 of the way threw the vid. I started off with Arrma and I'm kind of staying with one brand of car for now but if I was to by a Traxxas it would definitely bet the XRT.

      After about 45 years of trying out just about every rc I could get my hands on, I decided to stick to one brand myself just over two years ago hoping to stick to a budget in my older years now. So far so good. Even though I am a Traxxas guy now I still love Arrma's...

      Thanks, I am very happy with that ramp! I just bashed the XMaxx and it kicked much ass without complaints. I did lose a right front steering knuckle hinge pin cover and that was it. I will post that video asap, still have to edit it. Thanks for watching and your comment, I really appreciate that!

    With such a heavy car, it imperative that you do not land on throttle. Any gear will break on landing with throttle applied regardless of brand, and all it takes is one instance.

      I mean no offense at all by saying that I am 100% aware of how easy it can be to break a diff. I have been in this hobby about 45 years now, I have been a mechanic and body man over 20 years before the wheelchair. I have had several race cars and some big mud trucks along the way so I do have a firm understanding on how everything works and breaks. I have only been into Traxxas for two years and I have never one time ran into this type of problem. I just came in from bashing the XMaxx and it did beautifully all day with the exception of a front knuckle hinge pin cover that I lost, other than that it took another beating with no issues. I am beginning to believe that the lower rear bulkhead has a problem that I haven't found just yet or it could just be that the Hot Racing spiral gears that I have been using from eBay are simply not worth a pile of steaming something or another, maybe this XRT is cursed, lol... I will post the video I just made later tonight to show how little the XMaxx cares about my driving... Thank you very much for watching and your comment. MUCH appreciated!

    I would be getting frustrated also. I've never seen so many issues with the diffs
    Maybe it is the 20mil. Your the only guy I've seen run that heavy in the front and rear diffs. I'd try 1mil in front and 500k in back. If that doesn't work, throw it against the wall. 😂

      Hard to say, I put the 20 million diff fluid in my XMaxx with the same two year old stock gears and not one problem with it yet. I just came in from running the XMaxx and it did just fine as always. I will post that video later tonight after I get it edited... Heheh, this thing is cursed!

      @@tompendley1172 I've broken 2 hot racing rear ring gears now. First one was tolerance issue on hr part but 2nd one I dunno wtf happen. I had 200k in the rear, was fine until I tried to do a wheelie and it ripparonied. Im wondering if I damaged my lower bulkhead or something. Maybe I just need to shim it? I'm going to make sure to shim it the next time. I have vitavon gears waiting to go in. been hesitant to even fix it because it's so frustrating dealing with the problem.

      @@BeautyBeastRC Wow!!! So good to have a friend that is going through the very same problem right now and with the hot racing ring and pinion gears. That was my third set of those crappy ass gears, they are way too thin and I didn't realize that in the beginning... I was thinking it may be my bulkhead as well but I cannot find anything wrong with it. On this run the rear diff was perfectly shimmed and it still came apart. I had better luck with the stock gears, but I ordered two full set, front and rear Vivaton gears. Should be here in a couple of weeks. Might through a stock diff in there while waiting. The XMaxx has never had a diff issue, nor anything else that I have. Hopefully Vivaton will be the final answer. Thanks man!!!

      @@tompendley1172 Funny enough our other 2 XRT have yet to have a single problem with the stock diffs and all 3 xrt have big block motors. The only difference is the one with the problems has earplugs in the center and it got bashed harder. Makes me think I cracked bulkhead or the ear plug is doing it but other people use earplugs and don't have problems. I hope you get it figured out soon man because hearing it's happening for you even with shims is disheartening.

      @tompendley1172  Před rokem

      @@BeautyBeastRC Yeah you are always running big power with your XRTs, I love it! I don't believe the earplugs hurt anything being in the center diff, I see so many people doing that without issues. I am convinced it's either with those cheap spiral gears and/or the bulkhead, there isn't really anything else in my opinion. Whatever it may be I WILL figure this one out. That thing was shimmed perfectly to the 1000th of an inch with my micrometer. Centered on that ring gear and it still came apart. I will post an update when the Vivaton gears come in...

      You are indeed running BIG power! I am beginning to think the the lower rear bulkhead must have some damage I haven't been able to see yet. I have brutalized my XMaxx for two years and not one issue with the diff. I also have 20 million diff fluid, front and rear, and still just fine. In fact I ran it today to prove that it can take it and it did great. I will post that video late tonight after my edit. This XRT must be cursed! Hahaha!

      Still running the 20-46 setup. They are not the stock gears, I traded them out for the hardened steel gears that I run now.
