    Rites of passage are definitely something that are missing from today’s society. That’s why there are so many people nowadays who have a hard time finding their identity. The “rites of passage” I’ve been through in my own life have been the things that have taught me who I am

    That right there Dave, you just hit what I love about OPS you can really listen to someone and truly hear what they’re saying if you know their type. It’s empathy in action

    All the ENFPs look like gnomes and INFPs like fairies. Hunned percent.

    One of my rites of passage was overcoming my fear of needles and going on to donate blood. The blood donation needle is a lot bigger and scarier than a regular blood test needle, and you can see your blood going through the tubes into the blood bag. But I did it anyway, just to prove to myself that I had conquered my fear.
    Another thing I did was get over my fear of heights. Used to refuse to go on theme park rides or waterslides, but one day I got myself on one and since that point, I’ve been going on rides that hold you upside down and waterslides where the floor comes away underneath you and you fall a near vertical drop.
    My next step will be initiating contact with my friends and asking them to spend time with me, something I am still too afraid to do.

    Alright, a quick summary for TLDW reasons.
    ENFP's rite of passage is accomplishing / mastering something physical WHICH IS NOT EASY (in this case picking up those heavy ass weights) so that then, compared to that, any other little problem is going to look easy and not scary.
    The ISTP guy in the end completes the same hard challenge so they can get the love / respect / cheering / whatever of others (inf Fe).
    Question for those who might know: does Inf Si also cause someone to be insecure about NOT HAVING enough experiences / not having mastered something and therefore feeling insecure about that?

    • @audy2174
      @audy2174 Před rokem +3

      Yes, exactly. Insecure about not knowing the details of "their thing" or not having consistency, or rootedness or when they set out a rule for themself, not following that.

    • @ferenccsenkey3343
      @ferenccsenkey3343 Před rokem +2

      It's not about not having enough experience. It is the feeling of this genius and nice and complex world but need to obey suffocating laws to function. My entp friend who i work with in McDonald's has a tons of issue in the kitchen because he can't focus on one single thing. Neither can you talk to him when he is working. Because he would not be able to concentrate.

      OMG love this idea--is ENFP FOMO just inferior Si insecurity about missing sensory info?

    • @filipposa212
      @filipposa212 Před rokem

      I guess the insecurity about not having gathered / not gathering enough experience has to be Inf Se.

    I don't think Mr. Barbarian mentioning supply chain or accounting was speaking to his personal issues, but rather relating this process(his product) to problems that the tribe(his future possible customers) would encounter in THEIR modern world/jobs. Thereby selling to them how this seemingly non-connected activity can infact empower you to mitigate those other issues in your modern life.

    • @audy2174
      @audy2174 Před rokem +7

      Yes, exactly. He is trying to relate to his audience's problems. He cannot know what those problems are. He PROJECTS that they must have problems in supply chain or accounting. He could have spoken in generalities: "Any problem you are going through life would seem smaller after going through this" -- when he spoke specifically about these problems suggests he *relates* to audiences who have problems with supply chain/accounting, that's who he is imagining, that's who he is speaking to-- which is revealing about who he relates to, who he imagines relates to him -- himself. That's human psychology, we project ourselves onto others all the time.

    I appreciate the idea of having rites of passage, but I'm not gonna lie, I don't see the connection of rites of passage to masculinity, or how lifting weights or being masculine is connected to experiencing rites of passage.
    I work out and I'm a hard worker, but I have a lot of rites of passage in front of me. Masculinity or lack there of seems like a flawed way to approach this topic, depending on how you want to define it. Are you masculine because of the things you do, or do you become masculine after you mature because of these rites?
    Rites of passage seem like an inevitable thing, I think of the story of the Buddha, who lived a totally "non-masculine" life of being a prince and getting everything he wanted, but he still went through a rite of passage to enlightenment when he explored life outside of luxury, he didn't have to survive a a week in the forest with only his wits or climb a mountain as a 14 year old like some ideas of a rite of passage.
    I think this is just something that defines true adulthood, the idea that we are held back by living in a non-masculine society seems like conspiratorial observer talk to me.

      I think ENFP Si can be strong, but it's usually VERY specific and random for them (Dave kind of covers this when it comes to trolling the ENFPs on their weird little rules). The masculinity stuff is probably just some very personal, Fi-Si thing connected to his dad's values or something.

    Interesting. I think what I would be saying on auto-pilot in the interview at the end is something along the lines of "I set a goal that seemed too hard and then pushed myself to achieve it, now I know that I can do this", with the subtext implication that I am never going to do anything like this ever again, because that checkbox is completed. What type does that sound like?

    Maybe also the singer of Slipknot! He looks a bit like that, double assertive red-headed ENFP perhaps... I'm a Consume/Sleep ENFP so I look more like Jacques Derrida with darker features(still a few mysterious red beard hairs), not quite as explosive looking... I'm still an endomorphic skeletal shape like these dudes though, unlike a lot of Ti doms who have that lanky and long Ectomorphic skeletal shape.

      Maybe Dave Powers doesn't know, but now you have the code to start thinking for yourself instead of being reliant on somebodies opinion.
      It's pretty easy to know why. mSi mFi... SF doing things one one's own, for self. Feeling like there is this more aggressive, more primal, hyper masculine person burried underneath an external feminine play shell. You can think and ask for yourself. "Why are these audio ENFPs having a clustering of dudes who are big into solitary exercises that involve building their bodies?" Double masculine SF sleep my dude. I myself love going on long solitary runs, not so much the body building.
