I never followed Journey. But the Arnel story caught my attention and I became a fan. When you learn his story and the shoes he had to fill, it's even more impressive.
Broke my heart when you said you never heard of Journey. One of the most iconic bands of the 70s and 80s. Arnel Pineda been carrying the torch for Steve Perry for over a decade, thanks to Niel Schon who discovered Arnel on CZcams.
Yea, great band, surprisingly we are just hearing about them.

This was filmed in the Philippines during their first tour with Arnel Pineda, the singer who is from there. Saw this tour in Boise, Idaho. Band originated in San Francisco.

NS, Greg Rolie and Ross Valory left Santana and formed the rock band Journey. 45 years ago, Steve Perry became the new lead singer whole Greg Rolie sang less often. I grew up listening mostly to SP as the lead singer.
Greg Rolie would retire. The Babys broke up. Jonathan Cain, who was in that band, joined Journey. He wrote this song Faithfully.
Neal Schon discovered Arnel Pineda in a CZcams video. He sang in a band in Manila.
This concert was a homecoming for AP.

This is the song that Prince feared had too many similarities with Purple Rain. It was released in 1983 and Purple Rain came out in 1984. So he called up Journey, who were one of the biggest Rockbands in the USA at that time, and let them listen to a demo of Purple Rain. Journey said go ahead you have a hit song and the rest is history.
Journey is still active and just had a huge stadium tour through the States with ToTo being special guest. They are Rock `n Roll Hall of Famers.

My dates might be off a little, but that is the time frame that Steve Perry was their lead singer and wrote/co-wrote almost all of their hits. Where did you get the info that he is a karaoke guy? He joined singing contests at a very young age, started as lead vocalist with live bands at age 15 and won the Best Vocalist award in the 1990 Yamaha World Band Explosion. A karaoke is a device .... did he use karaoke to sing professionally? I don't get it

Steve was the 2nd frontman, not the original. He brought Journey to be one of the Top All-American bands in the 1980's. Pineda continued in 2008 and turned Journey into a multi-generational and Global band. Surely, there will be others who will carry the torch after Pineda retires.

Thanks for the heads up. We will checkout the original band as well 👍🏼 Never heard about them before so didn't know they had a different members.
Perry even said in a documentary that if Journey wants to continue without him then they should use another name of the band and not Journey. Who gave Perry the right to make that statement when in fact he is only a member of the band
