- You guys! That American in New Zealand is taking a look at the comments from Kiwis....and they are so mean! Fear not, reacting to mean comments from New Zealanders is far less painful than the ones from America!! Enjoy=)

Personally....I do notice a big difference between the kiwi accent and the Aussie accent. They have different slang than we do. And their accent is kinda broader I think.

I have to be honest and say, if I met our lovely host in person, without a channel name, I'd assume she was from the states, but not be 100% sure she wasn't from Canada. I think the accent situation is somewhat parallel.
As in New Zealand, over there in Australia to, there are a broad range of accents. Think here of American speakers of English and the wide variety of accents there in the States. New York Bronx accent along side many of the varieties found in the American South. Personally, one of the joys of travel is hearing all the different accents there are. Cheers.

Google the sand shortage, turns out trees grow faster than the planet creates sand suitable for mixing concrete.
Although cob houses can have a very long life span if properly maintained, with the benefit of clearing up cow dung lol.
100 % agree with you about our pine forests are an awful abomination.
The other problem with concrete and brick houses in a place like New Zealand is that they are quite hazardous due to the earthquakes. There are some alternatives to wood but these usually come with problematic drawbacks; cob, for example, is incredibly labour intensive. Many places can do without wood, but New Zealand doesn't really have another viable option. Definitely there for the hempen paper, though.

Don't pay attention to their mean comments, bullies and trolls exist in every country! You are a New Zealander now and I really like your content🙂 This sometimes happens to everyone including myself when I migrated to New Zealand! IMHO calling a person a Kiwi is a bit confusing as well as condescending; because a fruit and a bird is named after the word "Kiwi".

I love that you put this video up, as a born and bread kiwi who also happens to be a US citizen it dissapoints me to see these comments you are getting but it also reminds me that we are not immune from our fair share of idiots and "Karens" keep being yourself, you'll be a great Kiwi before you know it, you are doing well so far and I'm sure we will be be more than happy to keep you here. You are a great asset for us and just plain cool. PS watch out for the spiders, snakes, crocks etc etc etc in Ausie..🙃

I just want to say as an American that also wants to move to New Zealand that I love your videos. And you're right, even the mean comments from Kiwis are tame compared to the typical comments left by Americans on most videos and social media. Plus, they're correct regarding dd/mm/year, the weight system, and America just being weird in general.
Oh, and I learned that the plumbing is different because here the toilets use suction (needing more water and a smaller diameter pipe) whereas the toilets utilize more of a flush (less water, fewer blockages, but more poop streaks).
So true re the search engines on websites! So frustrating...Also def ignore the haters ♥

You are so sweet. Sorry for the comments. Have to agree the K mart search engine sucks. Have found it easier to search the item I want in google with the business name than to go to the website. Harvey Norman is the similar but not as bad and yes both Aussie companies.
Two things that sucks about New Zealand:
1 - When ordering anything with rice, such as pork on rice from a restaurant, they barely give any meat, and they only give a pathetic amount of rice... wtf! Why?! Especially the rice. Rice is stupid cheap so why not just give more than a small punnet??
2 - Palmerston North.
Bonus rant about the rice - New Zealanders can't cook rice to save themselves.
Hey Taylor- HARD agree.
1) OMG, there is soooooo much meat walking around NZ, I have no idea why they are so scimpy with it. We noticed that when we first visited and stayed at other's houses, they'd serve an awkwardly little amount of it. Side note- BEANS are also hard to find here, at least organic dried beans and they are also "cheap as chips"
2) 10/10 funny
never eat rice at eateries on Boxing Day, just saying.

Indeed there are people that enjoy trolling that don't seem to progress beyond play ground nonsense. Imagine Ms Ardern's feed back. Just keep your sense of humour, you'll be fine.
We love having other people from other countries here especially you and your family ,
She's a rough world out there for sure and as described by NZ author and broadcaster Gordon McLauchlan that even in our: "half gallon, quarter acre paradise", the title of his book looking at us and our not always pleasant characteristics. The same author went on In his second book, "The Passionless People" to expand on his observations made in the first.
American author and travel writer James Mitchener wrote in his1948 Pulitzer Prize winning book: Tales of the South Pacific, that was about it's people and the region where we live. Mitchener's observations were, from my memory now, that his Interactions with Maori, were that of as a people were relaxed, spontaneous and welcoming but noted that our country's majority race of Angola/Celtic heritage were often devoid of these character traits. Noting then more typically as being quiet, reserved bordering on sullen.
Although viewing ourselves as others see us can sometimes be hurtful and a source of resentment these observations if fairly meant can do us no harm. Yet often viewed as Ill mannered in the same way as if a visitor to your home began to make disparaging comments about your choice of carpet. It's seen as not good form. But life goes on eh little sister? Aroha nui. Kia Ora Mai.
Obesity rates in NZ are actually not far off the US.
Laura! That's exactly what Brandon said- we looked it up and they are super close, especially childhood obesity. He said to put in a graph but I thought...it's not really that kind of channel lol=)

Hi Morgan, discovered your wonderful videos last year! In the age of Covid, as an older person (late 50's) when we were stuck at home working, I started watching U-Tube reaction videos a lot after a long day of work in front of the computer as they were uplifting and made things a lot less stressful. It was amazing watching people's reactions to things they had never seen before, like young people reacting to old 'black & white' TV recordings of singers like Tom Jones (I'll Never Fall In Love Again), if you have never seen it, I would strongly recommend it! (no auto-tune 🙂) Anyway, the point of this post is, that there is a reason I'm not on any social media of any kind and it is because the proliferation of people worldwide, (not just in Aotearoa) who will just sit behind a keyboard and type absolute rubbish about someone!! As a country, we are in danger of losing what was once our most proud characteristic, our humility and welcoming nature for people who visited (and maybe later they too would call home). I sincerely hope you are not disheartened by some of these 'muppets' and keep doing what you are doing, your reactions are extremely uplifting after a long day in the office. Nga mihi wahine 🙂

Forget the haters! If you're not getting hate you're not doing things right! You are definitely trying and I'm sure learning from any mistakes, keep up the good job, we Kiwis have bad cases of "tall poppy syndrome" for anyone living in NZ.
8:57 Those birds screeching outside your window are plovers. They have a curious habit of making nests on the ground (they are primarily coastal and wetland birds) and are obnoxiously territorial. They have a nasty spur on their wings and will totally dive-bomb you to stab you with it, though they mostly don't do this to humans and the spurs aren't venomous despite a popular urban legend that they are. Those loud calls are typically a warning against intruders.
Take care in judging Kiwis by negative comments on the net, although it is not as bad as the early days there are still plenty of fifth columnists out there.

I work in tourism and a Kiwi .My job involves reviews from people ,during two years of Covid and NZ being isolated and only having Kiwi guests it became apparent that Kiwi's are brutal and a very 'entitled' bunch .I came to think of it as we don't appreciate what we have here .If you look up Tall Poppy syndrome ,(this where any one who stays out is 'attacked' ) this is a problem that New Zealanders have ,we 'cut down anyone ' like it's a national sport . Luckily not every Kiwi is like this ,but there are too many who are .I'm enjoying once again over sea's guests who are nice and appreciate what we have to offer .

To be fair some of those comments were purely disagreements not necessarily nasty. Also, sorry for the rude idiots (they are unfortuntely in every race). Australasia covers a group of countries in the Sth pacific incl Aus NZ and the pacific Islands.

I'd like to point out a couple of things though.
You were talking about tree's and wood and how you're not a fan of using Timber. I'd just like to point out, the dresser behind you in the video. What is that made of, or is it plastic wood which is even worse.
Australasia is a combination of Australia, New Zealand and other countries in and around our border. It's similar to North and South America being combined to be called the America's.
I quite agree with you regarding the non difference between Aussie and Kiwi accents. We can distinctly tell them apart but it is hell of a problem for foreigners because they are so similar. A bit like us trying to understand the difference between Canada and the States.
Sorry mate but Goats, Pigs, Possums Deer and a myriad of other introduced animals, are pests that need to be controlled. As you pointed out, it takes a long time for trees to grow, especially our natives. we don't need them chowing down on our heritage.
As far as the weight debate (oh, I'm a poet and I didn't know it) goes, I actually couldn't give a fat rats behind. you carry on with yours and I'll carry on with mine. Basically a non issue.
Another odd Americanism, is the expression "I could care less". This has always intrigued me. If you could care less, how much less, could you care. In most other English speaking countries, one would say "I couldn't care less". It's a more definitive description.
Last of all (thank god for that she thinks) and this is more to do with your correspondents, but dear god, how I loathe the term "LOL". I don't need someone to tell me to "Laugh Here". Really grinds my gears.

You give highlighted the problem with the American controlled social media. With no editorial control we have unfortunately educated many where education was a waste. Is it a good idea to acknowledge the existence of the uncouth, the halfwit, and plain bad mannered. To lump all America s together when there are over 300 million from an incredible diverse CONTINENT does demonstrate certain naievity and lack of worldliness. We have have a good share of idiots to share this great place to live in. The search engines for industries in NZ are worse than cr-p including a certain Aussie mega hardware store! Just for fun look for something on a Home Depot sight in the USA and Amazon is a dream

Aussie accents are very different to Kiwis, but Americans / Europe don’t hear enough of them to distinguish. I’m with you on the baked beans they are disgusting. Wood for houses is better for the environment than using brick and steel, plus wood handles earthquakes better as it flexes with the shaking where bricks and concrete would crack. I enjoy your videos. Always going to be some keyboard warriors that just want to criticise 🙄
I completely agree with you regarding the search engines. Countdown, for example, is the worst. Drives me crazy. Additionally they spell cos lettuce wrong in the search function (they spell it ‘coz’!), but correctly on the actual page! I have to use the wrong spelling to find it 🤦♀️

Not all New Zealanders are the same. As most New Zealanders like myself enjoy watching videos like yours, and other channels on CZcams.
I personally think you are smoking hot, and your partner is a lucky man.
So keep making videos because I like listening to citizens from other countries compare New Zealands way of living to the country they are from. lolol that's funny. I am a bit disappointed with the Kiwi audience, it's a nice and friendly nation, but I have never received that amount of negative and rude comments. Have made videos for German and Serbian audiences and can't remember rude comments like this. There are some weird, underlying issues.
Just to say I thought your observations and comments were positive about us not negative at all. I think those complainers took your comments out of context. You seemed to think our weird things not to be bad but more cutely weird.

Vast majority of Kiwis like Americans. Don't take any notice of negative comments.
I get into arguments or discussions with Americans, when they start losing they just straight block you and delete the conversation (on their end) instead of realizing they were wrong, but I will say I've had some very deep and meaningful, intelligent conversations with Americans, it all depends on the topic and the amount of emotion driving their views and opinions, I've also had to just ignore some of the radical ideological sjws that just won't see reason but that's everywhere.
