    To me sumo deadlift and regular deadlift are different, they should have done all the same.

    • @Vetis213
      @Vetis213 Před 9 lety +69

      Alessandro Zuffi sumo is cheating in these contests. the weight barely moves with the legs so far apart.

    • @bmcorrier
      @bmcorrier Před 9 lety +18

      Alessandro Zuffi I'm with you on this. The guys who are shorter have much more power considering the top of the lift is a shorter distance off the ground. The taller guys have so much further to lift the barbell. It's tougher.

    • @57ashdot
      @57ashdot Před 9 lety +12

      Alessandro Zuffi Yup, the distance is clearly shorter for sumo. No comparison, sumo style makes it easier to lift the same weight than standard deadlift

    • @wessteyrn7746
      @wessteyrn7746 Před 9 lety +50

      Alessandro Zuffi Nope Nope Nope...regardless of the type of deadlift they are doing, they are still doing the exercise called 'deadlift'. I do both the conventional and sumo. If you legs are not strong, you will struggle a lot on sumo, on the other side if your lower back is not strong enough for the conventional, you will struggle. If doing sumo was "cheating" and "as easy" as you all think, everybody would be doing sumo lol. The point here is to measure their strength so they chose to go with the type of deadlift they feel the strongest with.

    Omg. This was the video that inspired me all those years ago to be powerlifter. I've never competed but this video had a huge impact of my life for 5 years. Bench 305lb, squat 295lb and deadlift 455lb. I've haven't trained seriously for 3 years now but I'm still proud of those numbers (except my squat). Slowing getting back on the grind. Bench strength was easy to keep because of push-ups but squat and deadlift as gone way down.

  • @sonortubelug3853

    Bodybuilders are definitely stronger than powerlifters. Irrespective of weight, or combined years of training. Especially when you add metal music or shit rap. Now where's my Ben and Jerrys and my fucking pink strawberry protein shake.

    Hey guys, many of you are asking for the songs and think those are normal artists as found on itunes etc. which is basically wrong. The songs we used are licensed tracks for creatives - they cost tons of money and good ones are hard to find. And most of the time we don't save project data to the point we release the video due to high costs of storage and low income - the names of the tracks are gone then. The artists who produce the videos don't produce the tracks to become famous, they do it to earn money from creatives, advertising industrie and so on. If there are free artists who need promo, we always mention them. Thank you for watching our videos...

      Anton Kokić Ronnie Coleman did 430 kg x 2 deadlift, while singing. Thats probably the best in world, the strongest man and the best bodybuilder in the world singing while lifting! Other bodybulders can do several repetitions 300 kg bench press. Top notch. Quite shure a lot of builders could wipe all powerlifters off the floor. And the prize? More dead bodybuilders than powerlifters, sadly.

    Generally awesome video! But like others mentioned, I'm shocked that you guys let Tetzel attempt to pull a even heavier, when his lower back already rounded like crazy on the previous failed lift.
    Yes, you don't have perfect form when maxing out. But this but this degree of lower back rounding is much more than "imperfect form". It's basically asking for an injury.
    I would understand if there would be at least some big reward that makes it worth taking that huge risk.. if it would be during a important meet or something. But for a youtube video?
    Seems much smarter to think long term. Why take a huge risk, possibly have a back injury and not being able to train for 6 months? At least that's the advice I keep hearing from people like Chad Wesley Smith and Greg Nuckols.

    • @ralphM1114
      @ralphM1114 Před 9 lety +27

      ***** You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means. I sincerely think you need to go over your fundamentals once more. When you were lifting, you were all over the place. Your core is weak. Your glutes and hams are weak, hence your hips shooting up so early and your back bearing the brunt of the weight - manifesting as excessive rounding. Your lifting beliefs also need revision. You already failed at a certain weight, very visibly, yet you still tried to lift an even heavier weight. You don't do things like that which can compromise yourself. Not even in front of a camera with a bunch of lifters egging you on.

    • @yvesbb6990
      @yvesbb6990 Před 9 lety +1

      rrralf yeah,not just dangerous (lower back injury is a high risk when pulling maximal loads with this much form breakdown), and like he said overloading the nervous system...how is that a good thing? lol...just looked like an amateur move...

    • @JacobLizotte
      @JacobLizotte Před 9 lety

      rrralf I have similar problems as this guy, mostly just weak glutes/hips. I'm pretty new to lifting, should I just keep lowering the weight until it's easy to do the form correct? Or is there any accessories I can do for glutes/hips

    • @ralphM1114
      @ralphM1114 Před 9 lety +4

      Jacob Lizotte Okay, here's a background. I started lifting casually 3 years ago. I got into deadlifting 2 years ago, but it was only a year ago that I got really serious. My PR is 520 lbs @ 155 bodyweight. I hit a major plateau before. My major mistake was that I did not have a lifting buddy. I had someone videotape my DL'ing and that is when I saw all the mistakes that I did not expect I was making. I was not progressing because I had weak points. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. If you've identified both your form and posterior chain as the weak points, then by all means strengthen them first. At present, I am not even lifting past 350 lbs, but I feel stronger than ever since I have been going after my weak points. I had weak glutes/hips, too and a bit of lower back rounding. My fix? Pause/isohold deadlifts, stiff-legged deficits, more leg work for leg drive off the floor, and perfecting my form. Isometric/pause deadlifts have been amazing for strengthening and stabilizing my lower back, core, glutes, and hams.

    • @ralphM1114
      @ralphM1114 Před 9 lety +4

      rrralf I will give myself a couple more months before I even attempt a PR. Lower the weight until you can perform the lift as perfectly as possible. Before, my hips would shoot up too early and my leg drive was disproportionately insufficient. Hence, I was lifting with my back, which made it easier to go after high weight by maximizing my leverage, but compromising my form. So when I hit the limit of my "pull" strength, I hit a major plateau since I neglected my "push" strength: leg drive and hips/posterior chain. Try mixing sumo with conventional, too. Strengthen your squat, go below parallel. Perform ATG pistol squats with dummbells. I have studied good deadlifters, and I have noticed that they have very strong leg drive to negate the initial inertia of the dead weight on the floor. The quicker and easier you break that inertia, the better the rest of the lift will be. Good luck and lift well.

If you take them out of that artificial world by stopping access to steroids and large quantities of food, the numbers will drop like a rock. When you remove the lifting gear, it gets even scarier. He was using a wide stance which makes the lift easier as you don't have to lift the bar as much as if your feet are inside your hands. He was cheating.

      Adam Evans Was waiting for this. There is always that form king in the comments who knows best yet wouldn't ever be able to dead 1/4 of these guys. The bodybuilder has a large lower back. End of story lmao

      @AdamEvans416 Před 9 lety +14

      Firstly, I can dead what these guys are pulling, check my channel.. Secondly, look at his stance and back, why is no one helping correct him? Just pull out that smelling salt and bust your shit up.. not smart

    • @STRENGTHWARS
      @STRENGTHWARS  Před 9 lety +21

      Adam Evans Honostly I don't think you can pull what they are pulling. This is a fun session... No one is peaking. Kevin for example is pulling close to 300 in competition @83kg BW. Dorian should be able to pull 290-300 under good conditions. But you can prove me wrong.

    • @kblkbl
      @kblkbl Před 9 lety +1

      Adam Evans Yeah man, I don't know...it's the typical PR struggle. Most top guys at conventional have some rounding on the back. Prolly because they rely more on the lower back than on the legs to go Sumo.
      I saw you train at Fortis Fitness so you know for sure Jeremy Hamilton and there's also Konstantin Konstantinovs who has some awe/cringe inducing deadlifts.
      With that in mind, what is your height/weight? Nice lifts!

  • @1stfloorguy59
    @1stfloorguy59 Před 8 lety +9

    I had good form but still crushed a disk in my back at the end of the lift. was finished with the lift and my disk crushed. felt like a IV was in my back and I felt all this liquid go into my blood stream. I just started lifting again it's been 3 1/2 years. I can tell you 2 of them don't know how to do a dead lift and doing it correctly is already a risk so incorrectly is begging for something bad.

    • @TopDoggyRobby
      @TopDoggyRobby Před 8 lety +2

      Even if your form looks proper from the outside, the inside is fucked up if you hurt yourself. You either use the wrong cues and your timing is off or you don't recruit enough muscles or you don't keep your core tight or maybe all 3 of those things

    I dont know if you guys know anything about deadlifting but a smaller guy height wise is gonna have an easier time lifting that kind of weight. Its way more difficult for a 6 foot 4 inch dude to lift that much compared to a 5 foot 8 inch dude

      Yes and no, they can't pack the same kind of muscle as a larger dude, Eddie Hall has the WR and he is 6'3, The Mountain from Game of Thrones is 6'9! and he can lift just under 1000lbs.

    • @amberwalters7062
      @amberwalters7062 Před 6 lety

      they dont have to pull as far so shorter is better for deadlift. not rocket science. its common knowledge. plus a 6 foot 4 guy is short compared to a 7 foot 2 guy... why doesnt the 7 foot guy hold the record?

    • @dctPL
      @dctPL Před 6 lety

      amber walters Actually it's not really easier to pull it. Both a tall guy and a short guy has to generate the same peak strength to lift a heavy object. The only difference is that the taller guy will need to use more energy than the shorter guy because the movement is longer. All in all, as long as you are maxing out doing 1-2 reps it really shows who's absolute strenght is greater. Strength and energy are closely related but are not synonyms.
