  • How many millions of people will be forced to leave their homes by 2050? This documentary looks at the so-called hotspots of climate change in the Sahel zone, Indonesia and the Russian Tundra.
Lake Chad in the Sahel zone has already shrunk by 90 percent since the 1960s due to the increasing heat. About 40 million people will be forced to migrate to places where there is enough rainfall. Migration has always existed as a strategy to adapt to a changing environment. But the number of those forced to migrate solely because of climate change has increased dramatically since the 1990s. It is a double injustice: after becoming rich at the expense of the rest of the world, the industrialized countries are now polluting the atmosphere with their emissions and bringing a second misfortune to the inhabitants of the poorer regions. One of them is Mohammed Ibrahim: as Lake Chad got hotter and drier, he decided to go where the temperatures were less extreme and there was still a little water, trekking with his wife, children and 70 camels from Niger to Chad and then further south. The journey lasted several years and many members of his herd died of thirst. Now he and his family are living in a refugee camp: they only have seven camels left. Mohammed is one of many who have left their homelands in the Sahel - not because of conflict and crises, but because of the high temperatures. He's a real climate refugee.

Excellent point, Mark Young, the world is like a ship, if some of the crew are not fed and have no water, the whole thing is threatened. We need to cooperate and share resources to survive the great trials ahead. We cannot afford to have nations fail. I recently listened to a new teaching called "Preventing Collapse and the Wars of Desperation" (free online, part of the New Message dot org) that contains much wisdom in this regard.

So developed countries did reduce , now we get inundated by the overpopulated , can you see the irony in that ?

"Climate" isn't even a scientific term and the tell is that there are no metrics for "climate." This means that It cannot be measured any more than "a lot" or "a little" can. Climate is purposely vague. The desert has a hot dry climate or the rain forest has a warm moist climate are useful phrases. The climate is "changing" is hogwash. There is no such thing as "the climate" anymore than there is "the opinion" Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, likewise their climates. "The" opinion is changing? WTF? The "opinion crisis?" How many climates exist? How many are changing? How many are getting "better" how many "worse?"
When does a climate period begin? when does it end? How long is a period? How many climate periods are their in 100 years, 1000 years a million years? How many are changing one direction and how many are changing in the opposite direction? How many have no discernible change? How can it be measured. How many points does a hailstorm get? How many points does a pleasant warm sunny day get? Which is better: colder or warmer? Wetter,or drier? Are storms good or bad?

On my 2nd day in Jakarta, I was asked to put into good English, a document which was to be read at some International event. The gist of it was that the Dayak people of Kalimantan were to be labelled "forest squatters" and were to be evicted. It was so that Bob Hassan, the biggest logger in Indonesia could cut the whole place down. This explains the mudslides and probably much more.

The the back of the 200 page IPCC science report it tells the truth as a legal back stop that it only took its greenhouse gas samples at 20,000 meters altitude and only that one altitude! It is high school science that all greenhouse radiant energy is completely absorbed by greenhouse gases by 20 meters from the radiating surface, typically earth's surface. This is same type of making that takes place when a beverage is labeled "All Natural Fruit Flavors" then it tells the truth in the ingredient "contains no actual fruit juices". Global warming has been stalled at bout 1°C since 1991 with no correlation with carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. Make sure you don't mislead your students by the IPCC marketing.

When did "climate" and not our seedy politicians become a cause of war. Was Hitler fleeing "climate change" when he invaded Poland?
What, if if not pseudoscience, would ascribe every negative human experience from minor annoyance to the political calamity of war to too much human freedom?
RE: *"Imagine Bangladesh a country almost intirety[sic] under sea level with 164,7 million inhabitants have to flee to higher ground."*
That would require quite a vivid imagination of the kind that the documentary movie "Mars Attacks" provoked.
Sea level is a local phenomenon that is primarily governed by plate tectonics, continental rebound, wind and water erosion, land subsidence caused by pumping subsurface water for agriculture, industrial, and commercial use. The Island nation of Tuvalu was suppose to have disappeared beneath the waves by now according to "experts" (Ex-Spurts). Instead it has grown in size. WTF?
"Global" sea level rise is largely a fraud, although it is safe to assume that the seas did rise some 400 feet as the 2 mile thick continental glaciers covering half of North America and Eurasia disappeared starting 15,000 years ago.
You can buy a 1/4 acre lot right at sea level for over a million dollars on the Florida Keys. Obama did much the same on Martha's Vineyard. Do you really thinks he believes the same bullshit his crowd is serving up to all those gullible fools who suck it up like mother's milk ?

Not the poorly managed and under-funded countries who have more problems to solve than they have money to address them with. Regenerative Agriculture is badly needed in the deserted Sahel. Herders have over-graized these lands for generations, and monoculture that we pushed on these farmers has sped up the soil depletion there. If the country can begin to rewild lands deserted by their owners, perhaps the demise of these places can be turned around, but we must hurry. As do long as our fossil fuel use climbs no strategy will be sufficient to turn away the worst effects of climate change there, nor anywhere. The difficulties are mounting every year!

Chapter 7 contains Jefferson's observations on the climate of Virginia, including local warming:- the year 1801
"A change in our climate however is taking place very sensibly. Both heats and colds are become much more moderate within the memory even of the middle-aged. Snows are less frequent and less deep. They do not often lie, below the mountains, more than one, two, or three days, and very rarely a week. They are remembered to have been formerly frequent, deep, and of long continuance. The elderly inform me the earth used to be covered with snow about three months in every year. The rivers, which then seldom failed to freeze over in the course of the winter, scarcely ever do so now. This change has produced an unfortunate fluctuation between heat and cold, in the spring of the year, which is very fatal to fruits. From the year 1741 to 1769, an interval of twenty-eight years, there was no instance of fruit killed by the frost in the neighbourhood of Monticello. An intense cold, produced by constant snows, kept the buds locked up till the sun could obtain, in the spring of the year, so fixed an ascendency as to dissolve those snows, and protect the buds, during their developement, from every danger of returning cold. The accumulated snows of the winter remaining to be dissolved all together in the spring, produced those overflowings of our rivers, so frequent then, and so rare now."
In 1816 winters had become so cold snow never melted one summer, and remained harsh and cold until 1850, when warming began.

If we want to effectively tackle these problems, what we need is to focus only on measures that have a real impact
    1) distance tax: a tax that increases the longer the goods are shipped or transported- this incentivizes a local economy and stops the mess of goods running around the world for no reason.
    2) female education- the more educated the less children they will have, as overpopulation is a huge problem
    3) tackle income inequality- tax the super wealthy and the multinationals, make them pay the right share, no more tax avoidance or producing in countries with lower regulations. Big companies need the most resources and make up the biggest polluters, so local and smaller is better.
    4) universal basic income so people dont have "to make a living" at any cost and follow their passions- no damaging, stupid or unnecessary work
    5) make hemp biodiesel (and other biodiesels) make up 30% of all fuel compulsory in the economy and make investments. Tackle food waste and make it maximal 5% of all produced. Go towards 0% fossil fuels with improved technology. Swap most plastics for hemp-derived materials
    6) sustainability index- make an index of the worst environmental offender-practices. Ban those that are not needed and bring within limits those that can be made sustainable. Use taxes to incentivize/disincentivize
    7) go towards a bio-adapted infrastructure such as passages for the wild under highways and so forth. Go back to natural farming, drop all intensive farming, is healthier anyway. Decrease production of animal products. Abandon chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides, all not sustainable.
    8) we need a working UN back in some form, to protect areas such as the amazonas and other strategically important parts of the world for the ecology. Besides that we need first nation countries to invest in countries that are lagging behind, as the investment would yield much greater results. This is a global challenge.
    9) drop all the measures that wont make any difference and accept that we cant control it 100% at this point. Maybe there are some benefits in a warmer climate too.

For the melting ice, we can't stop it but we can slow it down. Remember everyone, were also going thru a solar cycle, which changes the earth behavior. We need to capture the melting ice water an use it. Which is another topic; to pump water from flood areas to dry area's. We pump oil long distance so why cant we do the same with water.

Stop blaming corporations and industries, they are *NOT* burning fossil fuel for the sake of burning fuel. They burn fuel as energy source *to manufacture all the products that we consume everyday.* You want them to stop? Here's how: Stop buying their products and services.
But I can't live without their cheap mass production products, and I doubt you can either. Can you make your own soap, or shampoo, or weave your own clothing, or manufacture your own drugs, or even as simple as grow your own food? I doubt it. We can't even produce our basic necessity, let alone building our own smartphone, TV, or car.
We are *addicted* to fossil fuel, it is what makes our lifestyle possible. There's no way out of this unless we are all suddenly got tired of modern living standard and want to go back to a simpler life before industrial revolution, it's almost our fate to continue on and go through climate change.
I think as bad as climate change will be, it won't be as bad as life before industrial age.
