This Antenna POOPS All Over Crossfire | FPVCycle/TBS Minimortal T Review

  • My biggest challenge with crossfire is the size of the antenna and the difficulty in fitting it into smaller builds. When I saw the Minimortal T, I thought this could be the perfect solution. I know that TBS really tries to manage expectations with this antenna but I thought, how bad could it really be... Right?!?

    Great Video comparing the Imortal T to the miniImortal T antenna. I had / have similar results with the miniImortal T. Glad it was not just me, was thinking maybe I got 2 bad ones 😆(Got 2 tried both and same results) I only use it on my freestyle 3" and under quads. I do not even use them for my cinewhoops. Great review / video Mangorille!!!!!

    Great topic! I built five 5-inch quads with Immortal t's, and then I built a 3in Digi-toothpick and used the RVS Tiny Tee antenna, which is just a small 900 MHz PCB antenna. After flying it all last summer, I realized that at the same output power I wasn't getting anywhere close to losing range in the area that I do freestyle, SO.. I just built another 5 in this winter, and I'm experimenting with the VAS Pro LR Crossfire antenna, which is basically a printed traversing circuit sandwiched between credit card material. It is a rectangle about 2.5 x 3/4 of an inch, and only weighs a few grams. It's flexible, and I've got it sticking out the rear, sandwiched underneath the back standoffs between the rear arms out the back. So it should get pretty decent coverage around the frame. Basically, the same place as most of my other Immortal t's are placed. It also looks really slick. I built the lightest quad that I've built so far, at 660g all up with a session 5 and a 1300 6s tattu. I know that's not the lightest in the world, but I still have TPU prints (armguards, cap/tvs holder, session mount, etc..), led racewire, a decent-sized video antenna, 2506.2 motors, and Vista with OG cam. I hope it works, but if it doesn't, I do have an immortal t and some prints that I can swap out. And now we wait for spring..lol.
    Great channel, I've been subbed for a while and I'm really enjoying the content. Keep it up! 🙌

      Well put, ultimately the best antenna is the one that is the smallest and easiest to use for the conditions you fly in. I'm not a long range pilot so as long as I can fly behind a building and some trees with a bit of margin, I'm happy. I don't think this particular antenna fits that need for me though, it was really struggling on the way back at 250mw in an open field. :) Glad you're enjoying the channel!

  • @minkorrh
    @minkorrh Před rokem +1

    The centre mounting of the antenna, or on the bottom of the arm is literally the worst place to put it. The carbon blocks all the signal depending on the quads orientation, especially when you are flying it and it passes in front of you with the antenna pointed AT you. I 3D print tails for all mine with an extended antenna holder that is away from the carbon. No issues, even at distance. I even changed to ELRS thinking that Crossfire was inferior, but while it may not get the 40-50km distance of ELRS, it's still great with correct antenna placement. If I was flying freestyle in a 5" at 1 km, I'd consider that far enough outside of a 7", and long range should have a diversity receiver in it anyway so you can have an antenna in front and rear. Make sure your Tx antenna is either horizontal or vertical to align with the antenna on your quad (or whatever it does a majority of the time.)
    The smaller the antenna, the better the carbon blocks it. Perfect solution is diversity with one horizontal/one vertical, but small quads and wallets cannot support that, especially for a large collection of quads so...........
    Oh, and remember that anytime the end of your antenna points directly at you, that is a 'null' point, meaning 'no signal'

I have never used the G2, but because the V2 are so good, I have no desire to pay for G2. I am currently waiting on the HD-0 goggles, so I can start experimenting with analog and support the open-source mindset of Carl, and HD-0. You may not be interested in that, but I feel like it will give you an idea of where I'm at. Going forward with DJI, if I was all in and planned on only ever using DJI, I *might* consider the G2. But personally, I feel like waiting for DJI's next gen. (G2.1, if you will) would be best. This is my personal opinion, from my experience in fpv.
