I'm not a fan of light in the sense of rooting for him I respect him as a villain. He's good at making me hate him. I always saw it both as a interesting take on a anime and a way to trick the audience into thinking he's a good person then show how horrible he is. It became more of find out how he finally gets caught and pays for the things he did kind of a anime series.
Light's "what's this familiar feeling" was referring to Light feeling shackled/chained to L again, when talking to Near. It's basically symbolism that Light is still shackled to L even though he's dead. Light can't escape L because he's still fighting him through his proteges.
Heh heh your reaction to near and mellow is EXACTLY how alot of us felt about this half of the season because we missed L so much and as a result we're not as accepting of these new "replacements"
Wammy house is basically household of orphan kids who are prodigies and smart and they trained so one of them can become the next L. L grew up in the orphanage since he has no parents but became the perfect investigator then at some point Near and Mello both rivals and very smart/gifted they were chosen to be L's successors. Mello being more violent and not bad at deducting things while Near is more calculative, a thinker and distant from people more than L.
No one expects or accepts light who is the underdog making mistakes always behind winning this soon...you get upset at 25 cause they don't leave any interesting doors open for someone outside of misa or the task force maybe taking him down not that either of those seem likely or interesting or set up even if someone else new coming in will eventually fail its better than nothing setting up a potential challenge post L was needed in this ep or to start the next ep or given more time to develop near the end of the next ep cause many give up with the show here never giving it a chance to win them back cause they liked L or the dynamic or only cared about who between those 2 won cause it's set up early on as their battle ... there's no hope even or interest in watching for some without L cause they loved him and light being god even for 2 eps isn't something they want to see let alone 12

my biggest problem with the second half of the show was that we saw L struggle so much trying to find evidence and figure it out on his own, and then for mellow and near its kind of given to them so their success doesnt feel very earned idk lol
It's the studio's fault to be honest. It's why it looks like they were handed the info to work with , but they weren't they both started from scratch. They skipped the entire "struggle" that Near and Mello went through to be up to speed. Also, they skip a whole Mello arc. I really like Mello's character, he has an actual personality (he represents L's initiative/challenging side) though he has an inferiority complex and always came in 2nd to everything against Near. Near is the character who was poorly written to be an L copy, even in the manga.
It's not like Mello didn't kill Near because he doesn't Near name. Mello didn't want kill Near because he just wants to beat Near in race. Mello want catch Kira first, that's all
In general, some nursing homes have similar characteristics. Orphans learn more intelligently about bullying, loneliness, and the ability to live independently. In a more open-minded nursing home, learning to distinguish between the good and the bad of life can make you more alert and cunning. The same can be said of L and Near, other children who grew up in the same character at Wammy House. Toys and sweets have become an integral part of their lives.

There were a lot of details and changes from the manga and novels that weren't added to the anime on the second half after L's death. Hence why people don't like it because it feels rushed. Also looking for a new career wasn't up to them [Near/N and Mellow/M], mainly because of the orphanage. There aren't any details about it except for side stories not plot related to the main series, it's more complicated and problematic.

Some light fans get mad when he killed L so soon....funny how everyone likes both and then only get upset when one kills the other...even though the point of their interactions is for one to be killed or caught...

I always feel that this second part of the series is anti-climatic, although it's become more action-oriented. The death of L really changed the pace of the story. The fact that in the end it's not L who caught Kira made me feel empty inside.
She really trying to not be biased but she judging mello and near right away smdh...she clearly hates that they will catch light cause it ends soon it's not ep 5 or something where she knows light won't be caught by L so she can enjoy both characters

You should watch L's funeral before that its on CZcams dub and sub, I even downloaded the video and named it episode 25 Epilogue
