i always get nervous uploading the first couple videos of a new show, because watching it is just a lot of learning, asking questions, etc. but i hope you’re all excited to see the rest of the reactions! (please no spoilers because i haven’t watched past episode 4)
also i explained why i’m watching the dub instead of the sub in the video so please don’t leave any rude comments about it, it’s my personal decision and i’ll probably watch the sub in my own time anyway!
The dub, as you've already discovered, is so top notch that even some sub fans will rec the dub first.
dub is fine. I usually prefer original language in every anime (death included), but this dub is pretty good. Btw, I love that you're asking questions and talking but I recommend you stop the episode while you're talking so that you don't miss anything (not saying that you missed something, just an advice). As you said, this anime has a lot of dialogue and important stuff happening all the time.
The dub for Death Note was great as well so it's fine. :)

This is a show where the dub is well respected by everyone so there shouldn't be many problems with "wHy ArE yOu WaTcHiNg ThE dUb", so don't worry about that. I'm so excited for these reactions. As you said, death note is usually an anime that people start off with so there aren't as many reactions for this show as with others but it's top tier, so I hope you enjoy the series, thanks for the reactions 💞

The music is from Catholic/Orthodox liturgy. “Kyrie Eleison” and “Christe Eleison” are Greek for Lord have mercy and Christ have mercy. Many other references to Christianity in general will be seen throughout this series. Enjoy!

Death Note is definitely a great story. Having a villain protagonist like Light is always gonna be so interesting to watch.
The fact it didn't take Light that long to go all in and kill people with no remorse whatsoever.. speaks alot on his character. There's always been alot of debate on whether Light is a psychopath or a sociopath. But the fact he definitely has emotions, I'd say he's more of a sociopath.
I agree, I'm no expert but I figure a psychopath would be self-centered in a different way and less concerned with "good, evil and justice".

Personally I think the reason L and Light have that same first letter for their name is due to the fact they are very similar. Both of them want justice, both are very smart and they each want to kill the other. Their only difference really is their ideals of what justice actually is. As the series progresses you’ll slowly find them become even more similar
Yep, in fact L`s full name is L Lawliet and in Japanese Light`s called Yagami Raito and L is called Eru Roraito(Or in English "L Lowlight").

Indeed in another anime/manga "Angel Sanctuary", Lucifer possesses a handsome,intelligent Japanese high school kid named Kira Sakuya.Of course Kira is simply the Japanese for "Killer".But still I feel like Kaori Yuki must have on some level been referencing her friends` Ohba and Obata`s most popular work.
Also fun fact:Manga writer Tsugumi Ohba actually sits and thinks the way L and Near do IRL and uses a penname to avoid being killed by a Death Note.

This show is so damn good, I must have watched it about 8 times. I know I am in the minority but #TeamKira. Light is such an interesting character, people sometimes see him simply as a murderer but he is a very complex character

This is my favorite anime that ive watched so far so I’m excited for you ^^ as someone who knew all the spoilers before hand, it was still the most intense and entertaining anime I’ve ever watched. I hope you like it!! :D
The way I look at it is apples is the “forbidden fruit” that Adam and Eve ate, so kinda represents temptation and sinful actions, and death note is a series showing a lot of killing obviously, so light represents the temptation of killing people with the book when a person has the power to do that, and all the sins that come with it

The Manga`s original run was from 1998-2004.Nippon and Madhouse got the distribution and dubbing rights respectively one year later and the first live-action film and anime both came out in 2006.One-shots and light novel spin-offs are still being published to this day,the most recent being in 2010.

Just found your channel, and love your reactions. Death Note is easily one of my favorite shows, and I'll say you made a good choice picking the English dub. I'd honestly argue the English dub is better then the sub personally, everyone does such a fantastic job.
I know this is a very old video, but its crazy how many times i have watched death note and ive never made a good correlation to the "Apple" until you said that. Thats some good observation skills just by watching the first minute of it lol. I can spoil a little of it now because this is years old lol but to anyone who hasnt watched Death Note yet, dont read up until this.... SPOILERS
Lights whole mission is to create a New World, a New Society pretty much a representation of him being a God, and the Apple reference of Adam and Eve is spot on, Adam and Eve were created to create a New World, ans Species. This is what makes this anime so elite it's great and it has hits and clues that some (Myself) don't recognize until later down the line.

I just love how hypocrite ppl are. They don't like light killing literal criminals (some FBI agents as well) in the name of humanity but when that girl in the first ep was being molested by pimps , literally every youtuber said kill them. Damn, this seems like a worthwhile reaction to watch if the sound editing wasn't so terrible. Not being able to hear the show makes it completely unwatchable unfortunately. It's clearly not a copyright issue, as other reactors such as Letts React has the sound levels PERFECTLY balanced and ran into no issues of that sort. Hopefully these get re-uploaded with at least TOLERABLE sound levels. It's crazy to think that as of me writing this, the channel has almost 125K subscribers. If the editor had known what they were doing it would have easily been a million, but so many people like me have to instantly turn off this video because it's impossible to watch and enjoy unless you download the video for yourself first, edit her volume way lower, turn the show's volume up way higher, and continuously do that.
Anyway, like I said, hopefully this will get re-uploaded with a less ego-centric reaction. "My voice is so much more important than anything any character could possibly have to say." Those are the vibes that come off reactions like these.

1:27 This isn't very obvious. There are many examples of dub being better. Death note is one. And you can always read the Japanese sub with the English dub.
Light was not a regular highschool student. He was always an egomanic narcissist. The deathnote just allowed him to act out more of his superiority complex.
Also, killing a bunch of criminals is not morally grey (excluding situations where he is defending his or someone else's life). He is just evil. If we wanted to make the death penalty more loose we could. As a society we have decided together what is appropriate. If they wanted to lower the burden of proof needed we could. We have decided collectively on what is best.
Him deciding for everyone who deserves to die or not and what level of proof is needed is not morally grey at all.

As a non-native english speaker, dub just sounds strange because we never watched anything animated in English as kids but It´s no big deal for me personally, I already know the Show anyway so seeing this in Dub with your Reactions for the first time will be fun too.

Why is it that such a perfect anime is made in such a cheap, rigid and intricate way? Especially as the end approached, the animation faded, and it felt like a panel where the characters just talked and moved closer and closer. But it's worth mentioning that the selection of songs was really good. The background melody and opening songs are praiseworthy.. It is clear that the author has done a great job in making this work interesting. Goth-style hot blondes, characters who have been prominent since childhood, and the concepts of the god of death are fascinating. Also, if he had worked harder on Watari and added L's backstory, Near and Melo would have been more cohesive. Fighting Wright with just a successor seemed like a cheap move. After all, justice is death in the face of philosophical traits. Whether Wright was killed or died naturally, that's justice.
"Perfection" and "imperfection" are two sides of the same myth.
EDIT: "Rights", "value" and "sin" are more myths.
Justice is simply mankind's striving to find an equality that is not absurd e.g. everyone having their eyes removed because blind people exist would be an absurd equality so it is not justice to strive for it.
I think the best way to describe Death Note is, a story of an Icarus.
It's not a starter anime. It's just the best.
Every anime needs to be watch in it's original lenguage.

Everyone agrees that DN is the anime starter.
Death Note is an absolute masterpiece. I have seen the anime 4 times now and planning to watch it again soon. I started my anime journey with this anime, and now with having watched almost all top tier animes, Death Note still tops my list.
Don’t worry, death note is considered one of the few shows where the dubbed is genuinely liked better than the subbed
