- I went to Put-In-Bay, a village on South Bass Island in Ohio, for the first time a couple of months ago. I went there to shoot with Trev Lee for the day and talk about photography & cameras. This is how that day went.

This video feels a bit different to other ones I’ve seen in your channel, Matt! Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the slice-of-life type footage with Trev!
Twin Oast is goated. Lava Monster beer, brussel sprouts, and smash burgers are 10/10. Huron, OH is also a nice little town east of Sandusky to take picture of lake houses and the boat basin area

I’m from the Akron area myself and one of the things I love when I go on little day trips throughout the state is seeing the juxtaposition of architecture in the smaller rural communities. I love going to the small towns and seeing the century homes and then right next door is a mid-century modern time capsule of a library or government building still in use after 50-70 years. I don’t know why but it’s just fascinating to me. I also like exploring all of the river and canal towns. Something about these towns and the people in them reminds me of daisies growing through cracks in the sidewalk. A lot of beauty in the struggle.
I love seeing you switch it up and showing Ohio to the photo world. Also, that Gold 200 is no joke!
Matt, it is so good to see young men like you and Trev out and about on a photowalk. For years I worried that this kind of photography was going to go away as the old guard (including me) dies off. But y'all are keeping the tradition going (along with others I follow) and this makes me really happy.
I passed through southern Ohio on my way to see my kids in PA back in February. It never occurred to me to email and drop by Chillicothe for a coffee and a chat. Maybe next time.

I love Put-in-Bay, I remember back in high school me and my friends would camp their. Hoping that one day we'll do that again!
Loved this for a bunch of reasons - been going up to Put In Bay off and on since I was a kid. The Lake Erie Islands are gems. (And you’re right - Put-In-Bay is nuts on summer weekends - don’t recommend).
Also got to have a few beers and chat film with Trev when FPP was in Cleveland.
But this is just a great style vid even if I didn’t know the people and the places.
I try to see everything I can in Ohio - mostly by bike with cameras on my back. So much variety - we are such an underrated state.
I too, like you am from Southern Ohio. And last year at Labor Day took my first trip up to the UP of Michigan. You must make a point to get up there. If you liked Put in Bay. Take the coastal highway up around Michigan to Mackinaw. Far better experience then just driving the interstate. Make it a point to stop in at the lighthouses.
I make a run to Middle Bass Island about 4 times a year. Great area! I didn’t know there was a Darkroom Lab at Put In Bay! Looked like a great time.

Voigtlander 40mm f/2 is my favorite lens, pairs perfectly with the FM series
I love the Voigtlander 40mm for Nikon. I put mine on an N80 for a super light EDC. Enjoyed the video!
I bought a Voigtlander 27mm Ultron for X-Mount and it is a lovely little lens. It handles well, the focus tab works, and it produces solid images.
I think I'll buy the 40mm for my Nikon kit. I've been watching for one of the Nikkor pancakes (45mm), but they seem to be more a collector's item than a shooter.
Nice, I live up in Northern Ohio. The islands are a great, very popular, nearby getaway.

Ahhhh, "pudding bay"... When I went to college in Bowling Green in the 90's, we used to go there to feel like we weren't in Ohio anymore. At one point I think they had the "worlds longest bar" too. fun times.
Man I hate that part of Ohio, Bowling Green and western OH in general is just so flat and boring

What a relaxing video. I feel like i just went on a mini vacation with y'all.
I want to visit Ohio! It seems like a beautiful place to me. One thing that always strikes me about your areas is how few people there are around. For someone like me who comes from a densely populated place (I'm Italian), it's really difficult to find a place where there is no one. One question I often ask myself is why, generally speaking, people never mention the lenses used but mainly focus on the cameras? In the end, all film cameras are just boxes; the real difference is made by the film and the lens. Excellent work, thank you for sharing.
I can't recall if its on Kelly's Island or Put-in- Bay but threre are ruins of an old Victorian era hotel that was destroyed by fire. There is broken china

For me, those Mamiya 17 shots are the most interesting. I'm not familiar with the film used but the results look spectacular.
Used to live in Huron, never made it out to the island though, that being said Ohio on the lake is great

I live right next to Akron, but will go up to downtown Cleveland every once in a while for some street work. Usually stop and get some great pizza and beer at some point. You guys should come up/over sometime.

Since you are a long time HP5 shooter - and you are the reason why I got into black and white film photography ;) - did you try Kentmere Pan 400 yet? Hashem from Pushing Film did a few videos and based on his experience and results I tested it and now shooting it mainly, simply because it is so much cheaper here in Germany and it is good enough for me as an hobbiest photographer :)

Great video once again, but also thanks for the nostalgia as I spent a year on South Bass Island and many days looking out from the Perry Memorial.

You sound like me.... I have been to the Philippines 5 times in the last decade plus, but St. Louis, a 4 hour drive for me, I had never been to (other than passing through the airport). I finally went through it but didn't stop ha ha.
I think it'd be cool to maybe have y'all check out The old coke ovens (either the ones up near Cleveland or the ones in Vinton Furnace State Park). Dayton area has a decent mix of Metro Parks and city in general. Or idk, enjoy a day at one of the zoos

watching you shoot with RZ makes me angry at myself... I used own one and I loved it, and was stupid to sell it. I got something else - 645afd, and lost all the mojo. That wasn't as rewarding as RZ. Now I own a few sets of old film cameras, collecting dust.

Cool trip! You were about an hour west of me. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near there in the summer. Non-stop partying, which is definitely not me. That was a relaxing video to watch.
Which brought up a question: I’ve considered an RZ (or, as a child of the space age, a Hasselblad) in the past vs my Yashica Mat124D. But always scared off by the size. The TLR is much less noticeable and less “pro” looking, and I prefer to be more low key. Is it really that much better than your old Rollie? Or just different? And did you sell the Rollie you had up for sale earlier this year?
