With FF7 Part 3 i have a strong suspicion they will keep the original ending... As a bad ending, ultimately they are likely shooting to make multiple reasons the remake trilogy happened differently in the first place as well as whatever new ending they want.

I can understand where you are coming from putting Deus Ex on this list, but you could totally do it with the right developers and Director that have the passion for the IP and importantly understand the art direction of the original and have a great understanding of its Dystopian, Cyberpunk Noir setting . One thing you gotta make sure you do is get Alexander Brandon on board and use his Conspiravision remix of music for the game. Deus Ex 1 without that soundtrack would not work.

Vagrant Story would be a nightmare to remake. You could remaster it with some smoother graphics and some QoL changes revolving around combat and crafting, but a full remake would be a monumental challenge.

Honestly, I'd be down for most remakes if they could take the original concepts and make a brand new game, as if it were originally conceived today and designed today. But given the state of the industry these days, if they did that, it'd most likely be bad. RE 2 was a good example of this. I had an idea for a semi-open world "Sprawl" for Dead Space 2 remake with some non-linear ways to change up the game - tackle problems in different areas in any order (or skip/miss things) with story beat bottle necks here and there. 1:1 to remakes, where the graphics are better but everything else is the same are kinda weird too. I don't know how to feel about MGS△. Ultimately, it was fun playing Dead Space remake, but since it was basically a 1:1 you know... I already played it!
I want a psychonauts remake that adds the assist options from the sequel and fixes the polish issue I noticed when I tried to play it. The original ending of FF7 doesn't tell you anything and doesn't let you know if anyone other than Red survives. The actual article talks about this and he says there will be an actual ending. He's also said that Advent Children is still canon, so the ending should be mostly the same. Rare list where Jules doesn't do his research on something he loves
For the inevitable sequel list, put KotOR 2 on it. I believe Kreia would get rewritten and dumbed down to the point that she isn't the same character anymore. In order to understand her, multiple playthroughs were necessary, and she was wonderfully set up once her goals and thoughts and plans were figured out.
As someone who played FF7 back when it first came out-- exceeding the ending wouldn't be all that difficult. It was a... 7/10 game for me-- It wasn't bad, I had fun, but it certainly didn't rouse my attention for its characters or narrative nearly as well as how Final Fantasy 6 did before it.

Even though FFVII is a revolutionary game and arguably one of the best RPGs ever created, its ending was so abrupt that I don't see how anyone could call it a perfect ending. The devs said that the Remake project would mainly stick to the original story points of the OG, but I hope they do something different for the ending. We better get more closure for the party and even some NPCs before the credits drop.

Yes, It's called Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. But nowadays, people seem to hate this remake because of its broken mechanics. Basically it has the MGS2 controls, but the map design and the enemy patterns were not accustomed to it, making it "too easy". I would also say that the cutscenes were "unnecessarily exaggerated" but the whole franchise went that route since MGS2. Anyways, "fans" want a new remake for MGS1 because they refuse to acknowledge The Twin Snakes.
Todd Howard said he wanted to make sure Fallout worked on future systems. Because now Starfield is based off the same engine still I think. So will the Elder Scrolls 20.

I wouldn’t trust Konami to deliver a parcel at this point let alone a remake, so as much as I’d like a bunch of their older titles remade it’s probably better if they don’t
#7 A Remake will also remove some of it's charm. Prime Example is the boss fight with Psycho Mantis. 1# He won't be able to read you memory card (or SSD dive) and 2# The second controller idea won't work either. #6 A remake would remove a lot of elements that the Top Down gives. Also some humor would be taken away. Ex: VAT an opponents crotch and they will double over and scream if you hit them (granted it's a 1% hit box). The current versions don't even have that option, as that was taken away in FO3.
MGS1 is the main game and story that blew up the franchise. It HAS to be remade. It will need tweaking to modernise the gameplay but it’s definitely possible. Kojima isn’t the end all be all.
I think Dark Cloud for the PS2 would benefit from a remake; basically just update it to match Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle's art style and game mechanics. Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle though would only need an HD rerelease with minor tweaks.
But they won't be well done. You're gonna get a reskin, a retcon, or they're gonna change a bunch of mechanics "for modern audiences." Maybe even all three. Nobody buys it? "Well then I guess they don't like remakes." 🤷♂️
No remake can damage the original. No matter how the remake turns out, the original is still there, the same as it ever was. So it never hurts to remake something. You may get something greater than the original.
FFVII Rebirth broke me. It was so over-bloated with things to do that I completely burned out on it after 60 hours and only reaching Cosmo Canyon. I considered throwing the difficulty on Easy and blazing through the story, but I found I just stopped caring at that point.
Most Memorable Video Game Mini-Bosses. (Like the one in “Super Metroid” who is defeated by getting it on the weak bridge, and the whole animation after where the lava melts its skin off as it tries to escape.)
IF and only IF they do a Fallout 1-2 remake. It's gotta be Larian at the helm. I know it's not the same style but it's close enough and they have the storytelling chops to make it hit right.
My only issues with ff7 rebirth is the overabundance of minigames and chadley going full navi every five minutes in the side content. if they can dial those down in the next entry i'll probably be happy with whatever else they decide to deliver on the story side.
FFVII Remake III doesn’t really belong on this list, since not finishing the quest would be far worse than pretty much anything the actual game could do. But it is Exhibit A for people to be careful what you wish for. FFVIIR is probably the most anticipated remake in the history of any media (seriously, what else compares?), but there was no way they were ever going to live up to the original.
I absolutely LOVE Vagrant Story! I do agree a remake should not happen, however; I think a cheeky remaster and graphical sharpen up and an actual way to play it on PS5 would be amazing!

honestly, I kinda disagree with the concept that remakes "ruin" the original cause like. the original still exists, you can still play it. the original doesn't get magically changed just because the remake exists. yeah, a lot of these would not turn out great if they were made, for sure, but I just don't see how they ruin what came before and is still there for you to experience in the same way you knew and loved it. if anything, the only remakes that "ruin" the original are the ones that are on the opposite side of the spectrum from these entries; the ones that are so good that they make you never want to play the original again.
I'm not the first to say this, but we shouldn't be remaking games that were already perfect. We should be remaking games that had great potential, but for one reason or another failed to stick the landing.
My personal entry to this list - Final Fantasy IX. After seeing how Square Enix has handled the FF7 remake, I don't want them anywhere near my personal favorite of the franchise
Dude, they're doing a great job with the Remake project. They changed the story enough to keep old and new players engaged by making you speculate or theorize how the story will continue (just like in the OG)
How about games that you should only play blind? Or games where spoilers ruin the game. For example shadow of the colosseus, which has a far greater impact on you if you don't know the ending.
I mean, if they Were to remake the original 2 Fallouts, they could do it in the Pathfinder: Kingmaker/Wrath of the Righteous way instead of the newer Fallouts. Personally, I'm still waiting for a Dino Crisis remake. Not to mention a Metroid 2 and 3 remake for the Switch

As much as I dislike SE's current trend of taking turn based RPGs and making them action RPGs..... I could see Vagrant Story as being one of the few where the transition could work. (Please note the COULD, I didn't say would work.)
I would actually really enjoy remakes of Fallout 1 & 2 is they were upgraded and built like Baldur's Gate 3. I just wouldn't want them remade to be in line with Fallout 3 and 4.
You know what I'd love to see is a _Fallout_ remake using _Dragon Age: Origins_ engine. I feel like it could have an updated experience while maintaining the overall feel of the original.
What, no Legacy of Kain? I saw Raziel in the video intro but you couldn't put that on the list? You should have made this a top 10 instead of a top 8. I can agree with you on Metal Gear Solid although one benefit of a modern remake would be that the entire game could possibly be made to fit on one disc so no more of that "please switch to disc 2 " BS. It might be interesting to see what could be done with those games graphically speaking. Just look at the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, it's gorgeous and the Medieval remake was also done well. If they could re-release Legacy of Kain exactly as it was but with graphics that beautiful, It would be worthy enough for me.
Top 8 games that desperately need a remake that would benefit from it. A good example would be Dino Crisis 1 as not only would the graphical upgrade curtsey of the RE Engine make the game even more terrifying, but the more action-oriented cover-based gameplay of RE6 is a actually a good fit for Dino Crisis 1 as it easily ramps up the tension as it can play into the fact that the various dinosaurs stalking Regina are intelligent predators that can and will either deal you massive damage or in some cases kill you in one hit if you're not careful playing into the fact that Shinji Mikami when he created Dino Crisis 1 stated that unlike the first 2 Resident Evil games which were survival-horror games Dino Crisis 1 was a "panic-horror" game in that the horror didn't come from scrounging resources and trying to survive it came from the sheer panic that came from knowing one wrong move meant you were more then likely going to become dinosaur food.
I can't wait to see how Konami fucks up the MGS3 remake. They're one of those companies where they have done so much wrong, you're baffled why so many people still give them the benefit of the doubt. Honestly, I'd trust an EA game/remake to be good before I'd trust Konami to do it.
This is how I feel about Bloodborne. I don't even want a sequel to it because the original game is so close to perfect. A PC port and maybe a 60-fps patch? Sure. But I am highly skeptical of any kind of full-scale remake or remaster.
Hrm. I kinda disagree with putting Vagrant Story on this list, but a large part of that is because I would like to experience it with some of that original jank cleaned up. I never quite understood the game on my first playthrough to the point I never finished it. A remake would help me get past that, and allow a larger audience to experience it. But then, I'm also the nutter who never found FF7 all that good originally, and even less interested in it's re-imagining. Plus, for the recorrd, I preferred Fallout 3 over New Vegas. Yeah, NV was good with excellent DLC, but F3 felt more... abandoned and lonlier, which I really liked. I WANTED the world to feel more of a husk of it's former self, with less people in it. NV felt too.... busy for me, too many people to feel like a proper post-apocolypse.

What made the original two fallout games work is the isometric turned based combat, and change that would never work.
#7 A Remake will also remove some of it's charm. Prime Example is the boss fight with Psycho Mantis. 1# He won't be able to read you memory card (or SSD dive) and 2# The second controller idea won't work either.
#6 A remake would remove a lot of elements that the Top Down gives. Also some humor would be taken away. Ex: VAT an opponents crotch and they will double over and scream if you hit them (granted it's a 1% hit box). The current versions don't even have that option, as that was taken away in FO3.
Any remake that says made for a modern audience or has sweet baby inc. tied to it in general will ruin the original

MGS1 is the main game and story that blew up the franchise. It HAS to be remade.
It will need tweaking to modernise the gameplay but it’s definitely possible. Kojima isn’t the end all be all.

I think Dark Cloud for the PS2 would benefit from a remake; basically just update it to match Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle's art style and game mechanics. Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle though would only need an HD rerelease with minor tweaks.

But they won't be well done. You're gonna get a reskin, a retcon, or they're gonna change a bunch of mechanics "for modern audiences." Maybe even all three.

No remake can damage the original. No matter how the remake turns out, the original is still there, the same as it ever was. So it never hurts to remake something. You may get something greater than the original.
FFVII Rebirth broke me. It was so over-bloated with things to do that I completely burned out on it after 60 hours and only reaching Cosmo Canyon. I considered throwing the difficulty on Easy and blazing through the story, but I found I just stopped caring at that point.

Some of these games don't need a remake. Upgrade graphics, some QOL improvements or just a re release for the new gen.

My only issues with ff7 rebirth is the overabundance of minigames and chadley going full navi every five minutes in the side content. if they can dial those down in the next entry i'll probably be happy with whatever else they decide to deliver on the story side.
FFVII Remake III doesn’t really belong on this list, since not finishing the quest would be far worse than pretty much anything the actual game could do.
But it is Exhibit A for people to be careful what you wish for. FFVIIR is probably the most anticipated remake in the history of any media (seriously, what else compares?), but there was no way they were ever going to live up to the original.
What I'm getting from this is that remakes aren't for fans of the original they are for people who would be fans of the remake

For Fallout 1 & 2, I would do nothing more than a quality of life upgrade. Crisp up the graphics. That's it.
Some games benefit from remakes while others just need remasters or just ports with modern controls
honestly, I kinda disagree with the concept that remakes "ruin" the original cause like. the original still exists, you can still play it. the original doesn't get magically changed just because the remake exists. yeah, a lot of these would not turn out great if they were made, for sure, but I just don't see how they ruin what came before and is still there for you to experience in the same way you knew and loved it. if anything, the only remakes that "ruin" the original are the ones that are on the opposite side of the spectrum from these entries; the ones that are so good that they make you never want to play the original again.
A lot of these I'd like to see re-released on modern hardware/consoles as they are

I'm not the first to say this, but we shouldn't be remaking games that were already perfect. We should be remaking games that had great potential, but for one reason or another failed to stick the landing.
My personal entry to this list - Final Fantasy IX. After seeing how Square Enix has handled the FF7 remake, I don't want them anywhere near my personal favorite of the franchise
Dude, they're doing a great job with the Remake project. They changed the story enough to keep old and new players engaged by making you speculate or theorize how the story will continue (just like in the OG)
How about games that you should only play blind? Or games where spoilers ruin the game. For example shadow of the colosseus, which has a far greater impact on you if you don't know the ending.
I mean, if they Were to remake the original 2 Fallouts, they could do it in the Pathfinder: Kingmaker/Wrath of the Righteous way instead of the newer Fallouts.

As much as I dislike SE's current trend of taking turn based RPGs and making them action RPGs..... I could see Vagrant Story as being one of the few where the transition could work. (Please note the COULD, I didn't say would work.)

I would actually really enjoy remakes of Fallout 1 & 2 is they were upgraded and built like Baldur's Gate 3. I just wouldn't want them remade to be in line with Fallout 3 and 4.
You know what I'd love to see is a _Fallout_ remake using _Dragon Age: Origins_ engine. I feel like it could have an updated experience while maintaining the overall feel of the original.
What, no Legacy of Kain? I saw Raziel in the video intro but you couldn't put that on the list? You should have made this a top 10 instead of a top 8. I can agree with you on Metal Gear Solid although one benefit of a modern remake would be that the entire game could possibly be made to fit on one disc so no more of that "please switch to disc 2 " BS. It might be interesting to see what could be done with those games graphically speaking. Just look at the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, it's gorgeous and the Medieval remake was also done well. If they could re-release Legacy of Kain exactly as it was but with graphics that beautiful, It would be worthy enough for me.

A good example would be Dino Crisis 1 as not only would the graphical upgrade curtsey of the RE Engine make the game even more terrifying, but the more action-oriented cover-based gameplay of RE6 is a actually a good fit for Dino Crisis 1 as it easily ramps up the tension as it can play into the fact that the various dinosaurs stalking Regina are intelligent predators that can and will either deal you massive damage or in some cases kill you in one hit if you're not careful playing into the fact that Shinji Mikami when he created Dino Crisis 1 stated that unlike the first 2 Resident Evil games which were survival-horror games Dino Crisis 1 was a "panic-horror" game in that the horror didn't come from scrounging resources and trying to survive it came from the sheer panic that came from knowing one wrong move meant you were more then likely going to become dinosaur food.
The blood omen saga would get ruined if they remade it in these times of "modern audiences"

I can't wait to see how Konami fucks up the MGS3 remake. They're one of those companies where they have done so much wrong, you're baffled why so many people still give them the benefit of the doubt. Honestly, I'd trust an EA game/remake to be good before I'd trust Konami to do it.
This is how I feel about Bloodborne. I don't even want a sequel to it because the original game is so close to perfect. A PC port and maybe a 60-fps patch? Sure. But I am highly skeptical of any kind of full-scale remake or remaster.

Hrm. I kinda disagree with putting Vagrant Story on this list, but a large part of that is because I would like to experience it with some of that original jank cleaned up. I never quite understood the game on my first playthrough to the point I never finished it. A remake would help me get past that, and allow a larger audience to experience it. But then, I'm also the nutter who never found FF7 all that good originally, and even less interested in it's re-imagining. Plus, for the recorrd, I preferred Fallout 3 over New Vegas. Yeah, NV was good with excellent DLC, but F3 felt more... abandoned and lonlier, which I really liked. I WANTED the world to feel more of a husk of it's former self, with less people in it. NV felt too.... busy for me, too many people to feel like a proper post-apocolypse.
