- Stob Coire nan Lochan, Bidean nam Bian and the Lost Valley. Beautiful winters day in the Scottish mountains.

#beavalancheaware #ThinkWINTER - From the Mountaineering Scotland Website:
For many of us winter is when our mountains come into their own. Dazzling white snow under blue skies, crisp underfoot with views stretching to forever with crystal clarity; the scrape and bite of crampons on ice, the thunk as a well-swung ice-axe embeds itself securely in perfect snow-ice. Even the white-out, the numbing wind and the face-shredding blizzard are part of the sensory treat that is a Scottish mountain winter. And we love it all.
But we have to be honest: many of Scotland’s mountains are serious undertakings, particularly so in winter conditions, and will require skills and equipment beyond those needed for normal summer hill walking.
Before starting on winter mountaineering you should first make sure your navigation and hillcraft skills are up to scratch under summer conditions and then look to develop those skills so that you are ready for the added challenges of winter. Mountaineering Scotland runs specific winter navigation courses, winter skills and avalanche awareness courses to help you gain or improve skills.

Cracking video ! Well done 🤙
Thank you. 😄👍
Fantastic views Dave, so want to get out there in winter but have to winter mountain experience.
Hi Darrell, Don’t let that hold you back. Start with something small and something you know well. Think of doing a winter intro course. Also, read through this information. www.mountaineering.scot/safety-and-skills/thinkwinter
Don’t hold yourself back, just start small!
Very cool video. Awesome scenery. Subscribed to your channel. ✌️
Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it. 😊🙏

Iain Bell , I just read that out to MrsO and she just wanted a hug! What a lovely message! The thought of you both sat watching our little video and choosing to take up adventuring together, amazing and very heart warming!
We have a very young grandson and it’s our hope that he finds enjoyment in the outdoors. Please let us know how you get on. Check out our Facebook page and feel free to post a picture or two! 😊🙏 Thank you again! Lisa & Dave
Excellent!

Great again Dave, makes us homesick but back soon 😀 ps haven't done that last downclimb in Winter but good you got footholds or would have needed 2 axes probs esp going up n down to film it 😮
Thanks John. Yeah it was quite steep but fine. Glad of the steps though. 😀👍
Lovely video mate 👍
Cheers Lee.. happy Xmas 😊🙏❄️
Awesome video Dave. Loved it!! Just wanted to be transported to the top of Bidean after watching it.... Well maybe not tonight with the 80mph winds lol superb conditions and top video 👍

@@ontheadventuretrails-scotl9389 cheers man. Hopefully out next wknd if the weather improves. 👍 Possibly Suilven, Alligin or Scurr na Stri 😁
Cracking video of a stunning day - brightened up a stormy Sunday morning 😉 Keep them coming👍
Thank you Graham. 😀👍 My pint turned into +2 so not over the top but went down well. 😀👍 🍺
Great Video....Poor Amount of Snow Cover for this time of year....lightweight should have done the 2nd Munro its a Gimme from the Descent Bealach ......done these hills Many many times ....hopefully they’ll be plastered in Snow on Thursday 🏔❄️⛏🌄👍🏼
Hahah.. thanks for watching Billy. Time was getting on and I wanted to get back before it got dark. All the filming slows things down. I’m not to worried about bagging Munros. Happy to just have a good day out in the hills. Fingers crossed 🤞 for Thursday, outlook doesn’t appear to be favourable, at the moment anyway! Might all change as you probably know. 😀👍❄️
What a stunning wee film, you could see the Ben and Cmd as clear as day.
Thanks for sharing this as it has brightened up what was a rather dull Saturday evening.
Atb Brian.
Thanks Brian... glad you enjoyed it and we’ll spotted on the Ben! 😀👍
What a fantastic day you had weather wise 😁thanks for sharing...... just a little escape from the big smoke.

Very welcome and thank you very much for commenting. 😀🙏
Another brilliant video, thank you ☺️
That looked a braw winter's day out. My arse would have been twitching a bit coming down near the end there. 😄
Was really good mate, nice and relaxing! I’ll be honest, getting over the edge was a little interesting! Great fun though. 😊👌😂
What a stunning place and a well put together video. Got to give you full credit for all the effort you put into that trip and filming it. You got a great day for it too.
Gaz, thanks.. it’s a bit of an effort but worth it on days like this. Appreciate you noticing and commenting, thanks mate. 😊🙏👍
Superb footage from the tops, thanks for sharing this 👍
I really want to go to Glen Coe! It just looks even more beautiful in winter!
Don’t hold back.. 😀👍
Stunning looking, canny wait to get up there this year.
Very well done pal, great footage as always, cheers.
Stunning views on this one David. Especially at 10.40😮 Applaud you on your efforts to capture video whilst climbing. A few double trips in there for sure. You definitely earned your couple of pints. Excellent content as always..................Andy👍
Yeah one or two rewinds whilst filing but worth it. 😀👍
That looked like a great day out and a good view of the route, which I've been planning recently, so thanks for that.
Hope you enjoyed your pint 👍🏻
Glad its been of some help to you mate. 😀👍
Just stumbled across this video as I was searching for winter climbing in Glencoe on CZcams. As I watched I thought, "I recognise that chap!" Dave, how are you? We met on ML training at Glenmore Lodge. Love your videos, especially this one. See you in the hills sometime when this blessed lockdown is over.
Hey Kevin, Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed the wee adventure. Hope alls well with you and you’re keeping safe. Hopefully we’ll all get back on the hill soon. Take care, Dave
Dave, get in contact Kevin.wheeler@wheelerassociates.co.uk 😀
Awesome day and video. Top effort all round 👌. I was up Ben Vorlich the same day, absolutely incredible. Cheers 👍
Thanks James. 😀🙏👍
Wonderful, thanks for sharing this walk in the mountains . Ben looked good in the distance and wow those clouds rolling over the lower hills looked great .
Take care :D Teddy
Teddy Wanderer Ben was crystal clear ... great day and thank you. 😀🙏
That's what it's all aboot 😎👌
Should've got the orange survival bag oot for the descent down to the lost valley..
woooosh 😉
Hey Kev, That would have been a quick way down eh! Not sure if I’d have been able to climb out the waterfall gully with broken EVERYTHING though! 😀😂🤘
Fantastic video David. Cinematography is brilliant. Really appreciate all your efforts in getting the footage; I know what hard work it is. What are your thoughts on camping in the Coire as an alternative to the lost valley?
Exactly what am planning on doing looks a much better option
Hey David, We’re hoping to get a camp there in the spring. Gotta say that the lost valley has a great feel to it. You could actually to the circuit over two days in slow time. Camp in both!! 😀👍
Great video .. I'd like to try that route on my to do list .. where's your better half ?
Chief Brody sadly she had to work. This was a last minute dash up between two weather fronts. Would liked to have had her with me on this, she’d have loved it.
Wonderful stuff, I was wondering what the descent from the bealach into the lost valley would be like as I went up and down that way some years ago. It was late April and we didn't have winter gear as we didn't think we'd need it, but the top section was snowed in so was a wee bit scary lowering myself over the edge searching for the foot steps and hand holds.cheers.
Yeah, it’s a little cheeky getting going from the top down. Thank you for watching our wee film. 😀🙏
I went there w my family didn't go as high as you though. As we were leaving the weather turned really Scottish 😂
It’s a bugger when that happens eh! 😂❄️
Great video thanks for sharing! What’s the height of Stob Coire nan Lochan? I climbed up it many years ago. I’m assuming it’s not quite a Munro.
Thinks it’s about 1115m but it’s part of the Bidean nam Bian massif. Classed as a Munro top rather than a Munro in its own right.
for future give us the date please
What do you mean ??
Go Pro ?? - Great quality. How long do the batteries last in the cold and do you need a spare ??
Hi Jim, yeah that was GoPro Hero 7. It really depends on how cold it is but I carry three spare in my inner pocket which keeps the batteries warm. I think I changed the battery once on that trip. At times I don’t need to change it at all, I always carry spare though.
@@ontheadventuretrails-scotl9389 Thanks for that Dave, will look at getting one they are awesome. It must take you ages to do a walk setting the camera/tripod etc. What software do you use to edit your video's ?
The editing is more time consuming than the extra walking lol ... 😂 I use Adobe Premier Pro.
Doing this in May cannot wait, how steep is the path out of the hidden valley? Heard some horror stories not looking forward to that bit
Yes it steep without snow but even steeper with, and has a significant run off if something goes wrong. You’ll need to evaluate the days leading up to and on the day to see how the snow conditions are. Great circuit though. 😀👍
How do you manage hydration with your backpack? I see it's got no side pockets or camelback.
I carry water inside my rucksack 🎒 but mostly I’ll drink from a good stream or river when i come across them. I carry a wee collapsible cup in the top of my kit also.
@@ontheadventuretrails-scotl9389 thanks! I really fancy this backpack but I drink quite a lot and don't know if stopping so often would not drive me nuts :). I do drink from streams as well, Scotland is perfect for it.
Does it snow over there in april?
Not really (normally) In some areas theres likely to be snow on the high tops though.
