Glencoe's Lost Valley, A Perfect Day | Stob Coire Sgreamhach | Bidean Nam Bian

  • This weekend we took a walk up Coire Gabhail, The Hidden Valley in Glencoe (sometimes called the lost valley). As the weather was so good for November we decided to walk up the Munros Stob Coire Sgreamhach and Bidean Nam Bian. This has to be one of my best hill days ever with perfect weather and some the most amazing views in Scotland with the Mamores and Ben Nevis giving superb views.
Reaching the Lost valley itself will take around 45mins - 60 mins. The entire loop (with lots of filming, eating and watching the views) was 16km with 1400m of ascent and took just over 7 hours.

Grandson Matthew, me and pal Andy did it last year, but in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, the clag rolled in just as we approached Stob Coire nan Lochan and we disappointedly got no views whatsoever on SCnL or Bidean, couldn't see off the summits, so it was good to see yours👍!

Any info you think just ask!
Briefly I would recommend the route we did. I prefer going up the stone shoot from the lost valley than going down it! Give yourself plenty of time, an early start from the three sisters car park is essential. Most of all watch for the weather! The views from up here are amazing! Don’t go if the weathers foul 😂😂😂

@@PAADVENTURES1 excellent mate. I’ll keep it in mind about the stone path on way down. I take it there’s more than one route back to the carpark?

No problem! Yeah there is multiple routes around here! You could check out Walkhighlands website for routes and guidance!

Great hike Paul it’s on my list as Bidean nam Bian is my holy grail but will take in all 3 and the lost valley is the final hill a munro ? It looks high enough but cannot see it getting classed as a munro on maps ? Thanks david

Its a brilliant day out David and probably one of my favourite walks so far....Leave it for the good weather and you will absolutely love it..The third hill is a Miunro top I think? Just make sure you don't do what I did and headed off in the wrong direction! scary! cheers and thanks for watching! Paul.

    Incredible video! Loved watching!
Can I ask, is the scree gully difficult to get up? Is it manageable or would you recommend another route up? Thanks

Thanks very much! To do the hidden valley and these two Munros I would recommend this clockwise route.
In good conditions the gully up from the hidden valley is not too difficult, steep but ok….personally I would rather go up this gully than down but that’s just me. If you take your time I would say it’s straightforward. All that said however everyone is different with various levels of experience. In poor conditions it would be more difficult and with snow quite a challenge. Whatever route you choose enjoy and take care! Thanks again for watching and thanks for your comments. Cheers. Paul

Doing these 2 this weekend. Anyone done them both ways and if so which way did they prefer?

Hi, our intention that day was just to go for sh6walk up to the lost valley. It was only when we realised that the weather was going to be good that we did the two hills too! I think either way will be a great day out! Enjoy the walk, I am sure you will love it, cheers paul.

Hi! Doing the Lost Valley in a couple of weeks. Is the trail well signaled? On your footage, it sometimes looks like there is little trail to follow, but it might just look like that?

    • @PAADVENTURES1
      @PAADVENTURES1  Před rokem +1

Hi Robin! If you are just doing the hidden valley and NOT the Munros then the path to the hidden valley should be relatively straightforward (obviously depending on your ability) there are no signs or way markers of any kind up to the hidden valley it would just be a matter of following the path. There are a few sections where the path crosses the burn that runs along the path so prepare for wet feet maybe! It’s a really popular place so the path is generally well defined.
If you are planning on doing the Munros then that’s a completely different undertaking all together 🥴hope this helps and you have a fantastic day!! Paul
