Most shocking thing is that Doc was there for 3 seasons. Felt WAAAAAY longer
The blowout loss to Boston in Game 7 was the final nail
Feels like he coached Dr J
@@RB01.10 the lost at home was the definitive decision…
@@RB01.10The writing on the wall became overwhelmingly evident in the 3rd quarter; With each big play Jayson Tatum made, the energy in the building took chunk after chunk after chunk out of the Sixer's chest_ Toward the end of it, their energy was dead as a popped balloon_ It sucks that Doc got fired, but as quick as that happened to him is as quick as James Harden should be exiled from Philly as well... He is EXTREME poison to championship aspiration and enough is ENOUGH!!!🤦🤦😮💨
Felt just like 1 year tbh lol
when they win it’s the players, when they lose it’s the coach.
The coach wins longterm though. Having a chip on your resume guarantees you NBA jobs. Doc had one and road the coattails for nearly 15 years now.
It was both. Harden should go to and embiid needs to step up
@@MightyDuck926 yeah but if your MVP star players give you 15 & 9 each in a close out game, how much of that is on him? He deserves some culpability but he definitely got scapegoated.
well, ive seen many great coaches, but only seen one MJ. Players always valuable.
It IS his fault. '03 Magic, up 3-1 with McGrady as the best player in the world at the time, lost the series, 2013-20 Clippers never made the Western Conference Finals despite being favored to do so in half of those seasons and having a super team every year. Anyone could have coached the Celtics' big 3 to a title. How does this man keep getting jobs? He has almost no track record of success.
Doc Rivers wife: "Where we goin next?"
Ifykyk😂
I actually agree with this. During game 6 you could tell he got out coached toward the end of the game. You have to call a time out or something and draw up some plays and get your MVP the ball with the game on the line. Doc didn’t do anything but watch his guys struggle and lose the game when they had a chance to put Boston away.
Funny they were killing BOS's coach for the same thing the game before
I blame James Harden for scoring 13 points in game 6 and 9 points in game 7.
Edit: Even if he's not the same player he once was. That's incredibly low, he's basically Ben Simmons all over again but with a stepback 3 every now and then.
@@OldSchool3pts Absolutely. Boston’s coach actually admitted he should’ve called timeout though. Doc is more experienced and have been in those situations before.
@@Young_Dab Coach has to weather the storm down the stretch. Philly was actually winning the game late in the 4th game 6.
No amount of time outs is going too make harden score in the clutch...you can draw the best play ever for harden and he won't come through..embiid is not him ...this is not on fock..embiid should have willed his team too victory Game 6
Doc Rivers has to be most overhyped coach in history of NBA
Not as over hyped as the most valuable process embid
They played a** not coach fault lol
He only won a championship bc he had rondo Allen pierce and Garnett..even I could coach them and win a championship 😅😅😅
Any coach who has a ring is not overrated. The overwhelming majority of coaches never even get one.
@@chronius7057 we get your point but calm down
When are Harden and Embiid going to be held accountable for their performances. The coach always take the fall.
Harden signs elsewhere. Dude is NOT clutch.
Embiid was nursing a significant injury, and carried that team throughout the season. He deserves some grace.
@@dorianthomas3284 now he carried the team during the regular season? He missed a quarter of the games jajaja
@@dorianthomas3284 no he ain't... That's always been Embiid's excuses for 5 years now when his team got eliminated in the 2nd round every single year
@@dorianthomas3284 nah man, he really wanted that mvp and when jokic and other players were taking it easy the last month. Embiid was playing too much, chasing that award, he got burned out. Playoffs is a different animal and Embiid never rises to the occasion. He has poor decision making skills when it comes to making the right play. It's why jokic is considered better by many, joel basketball IQ is low, his skills are amazing but it doesn't translate well in the playoffs. Embiid doesn't read the other teams plan as quick as lebron or jokic.
He was up 3-2 and had a closeout game at home. He knew this was coming.
Not only did he know it was coming he deserved it... Of course it doesn't help that embiid through him under the bus in his press conference but we all knew that was coming too.
No is not a hof coach this man lose the most nba game when leading smh one ring with 5 super team really
@cleigh113 I sont think he deserved it, Embiid had 15 points and Harden had 9.
What’s more disturbing about his game 7 record is the fact that there isn’t one team that has beaten him twice. It’s been a loss to a different team every time. I assumed it was LeBron’s fault when he was in the east. But I was shocked to see the list of all the teams he’s played in game 7’s.
But how many of those games was he actually favored to win? That’s the thing I’ve never understood.
The Clipper ones he was probably favorite in most of those especially with the Lob City clippers.
@Alex K so by your logic if he was favored to win he would of won?
@@alexk4220 if it gets to a game 7 you have a fair shot at it regardless if he’s favored or not. He can’t be that outmatched if he could beat a team 3 times before a 7th game
@@RaiderNation327no dumb dumb. He's asking if Doc Rivers was coaching a good team or not. I.e. if they "should" have won it, then Rivers is a bad coach. But if they were against a bad team then it's Rivers fault.
Like the Suns this year should have won. Celtics are just as good as the sixers. No one deserves to win it more. They are both really good.
Doc's curriculum played a role in this decision. Losing 10 times on game 7 is a terrible record. Twice as many as the second on the list.
Doc rivers is the single worst Coach in the history of sports And by a very large margin.
@@Alex-sf9bo he’s really not like it’s not his fault embidd and harden decided not to show up
would it be better if those series never went to 7 games and he lost in 5 or 6?

Not sure why everyone's so shocked. What's shocking to me is how this guy keeps getting another head coaching job so quickly
He won a ring 15 years ago and I guess some teams think he got one more in him
@TDJK Hazard with an all star crew that could have coached themselves tbh lol
Because espn keeps telling us he's an amazing coach and people keep buyingnit
Mike D'antoni and Tom thibodeau are trash coaches that have never won championships but they keep jobs. I don't see people such as yourselves questioning their qualifications. What makes doc rivers different?

5 straight game 7 losses and this is a bad decision ?
Not when the best players played like bums
@@OWStaffords his fault

They're too bias to admit that he's not a championship coach.

I understand the argument "What's a coach supposed to do if the players suck?"
At this point, Doc Rivers needs to do something more. There's a reason why he always blows all these leads, he's coached all these HOF players and they always blow the lead. Make adjustments, bench Harden and run Maxey at PG, do something when the Celtics were going on that run in the 3rd. I feel Doc knows he'll always have a job and he's become comfortable with failure, that 08 Championship has given Doc a reputation as a championship head coach.
Obviously, it's not all his fault, but he's a part of it. And between Embiid, Harden, & Doc, the coach is the easiest thing for a team to replace.
I’ve been saying this from the start. No team or coach has milked a career and legacy off of one nba championship, more than Doc Rivers and the 08 Celtics. They make you think off of just one ring they were a dynasty and that Doc Rivers is a hall of fame coach.
Well if the idiot angel didn't trade Perkins for Jeff Green
And if they didn't send kobe to the line like 20 times in the 4th quarter of that game 7 when Rasheed Wallace stormed into the officials locker room they would have had 2 in 3 years.
With the year in between the year garnett was out in the playoffs.
That celtic team would wipe the floor with this celtics team by 20. And this year they're still the favorites. Shows u the league sucks now.
"I wonder if they cooperated" - JJ Redick
The quote from Rivers came during an ESPN segment earlier this season, when he said, "Not trying to take anything away from that [Clippers] team. That team was never going to win, when you look back at it. We just didn't get along well enough as a group and you can't win without cooperation. That's the only way you can win."
Redick responded to these comments shortly after they surfaced, saying on a podcast episode with Jamal Crawford, "Everybody I've talked to about [Lob City] has kind of owned their own mistakes, if that makes sense, and realizes especially later on that we still could have had something special. And to not get any of that accountability from [Rivers], and the interesting part too, is he talked about players not getting along. He was brought in as a personality manager... and he was the GM. So if people weren't getting along, it's kind of on you."

Facts! I’m like is Doc coaching or what!
The best segment they’ve had in a while
Doc has went from stacked team to stacked team and regardless of how many times he flops it’s somehow never his fault. He deserved to be fired and he never deserved the job tbh
I wouldn't want to be the coach who replaces Doc.Think about all of the expectations he is going to have to carry on his shoulders and Doc had a winning record and still got fired but it was due to a number of opportunities he had but didn't capitalize on.
Doc has coached flawed teams. Sorry, but Blake Griffin was never going to be the best player on a championship team. Relying on James Harden to be one of a team's two superstars is even worse. Inconsistent on offense, a liability on defense. The Sixers got Harden to win a ring? Gimme a break. Not to mention they dropped thirty plus million on Tobias' salary. Teams can't win rings if they give the likes of Tobias one quarter of a team's salary cap. The problem is management, not Rivers.
when the players quit on you, no choice but to fire the coach tbh. At least go out fighting.
Doc rivers is the single worst Coach in the history of sports And by a very large margin.
@@Alex-sf9bo That's a bit hyperbolic bruh
@Alex Disagree. We all laugh at his game 7s record, but a championship coach cannot qualify as the "worst" coach. As a Knicks fan, I could tell you right now Fizdale tops the list of worst coaches in history.
Embiid had like 15 point and harden had 9 points .... Can we really blame doc
It’s all intertwined , is it not? I think that’s 5 straight game 7 losses. 10 overall (twice as much as any other coach in NBA history, if I’m not mistaken ). Game 7s seem quite revealing. That’s a long series, with perhaps plenty of coaching adjustments that need to be made…and he keeps coming up short. His one chip is from a team with at least 3 hall of famers. You would want him as the coach of your franchise?? Nah, no thanks.
Not in this particular case, but he has a history of being an underachiever unfortunately, he has been constantly outcoached on a tactical basis and he hasnt been able to get over the hump, hes a championship coach, but not any more.
Yes. He blew the series in game 6.
Yea you can. Look at coach doc playoff track record up 3 games in a series.
I'm a music artist btw.... I got 🔥
But back to what we talking doc had his moments but philly gave up on him maxey was trying like that young kid he gonna be good for some years

JJ just panders to players guy says nothing of substance
Some teams the bar is set so high! You can only fail a few times! Go somewhere the expectations are low and build that team up!!
They had no choice the players embarrased the team.
The truth 🙌
He is still getting PAID. So good for Doc, he'll land in a better situation!
Detroit Pistons needs a veteran type of coach
nah Doc should not coach in the NBA anymore. too many opportunities
It's also on the 'MVP' Embum
Wow! First Take giving us interesting analysis without hyperbole. That was highly entertaining.
I love how sad SAS is for doc rivers but when Steve nash was being fired he was clamouring 😂
exactly.. if doc was white stephen a would have been all over the guy for years already
Racist
Cause Nash is not a real coach... no credentials. Nothing.
Steve Nash just wasn't ready. He hadn't coached enough or struggled enough before having a stacked roster like that. He'll get another shot.
SAS has an obvious Agenda.
Doc Rivers fired!!No kidding!!😂😂😂
I wasn’t really surprised by this news. Not necessarily because of Doc, but because I feel like the Sixers are the most impatient franchise right now. They went through years of being a lottery team to get top picks, all of which never panned out except Joel. They acquired Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler, and eventually let Butler go. This team had so much potential in current and past years. Yet they still haven’t made a conference finals since Allen Iverson played there in 2000-01.
Told u
I saw this coming and dang Doc Rivers has been a coach for so many different teams at this point

So sad but we saw it coming
I like how we’re writing the #2 seed and defending champs off as *just* level 1 & 2 but I get the analogy. I think it’s spectacular what LA has accomplished so far and I’m very interested to see if they can go all the way. I know what thing and that it’s you can’t count LeBron out until it’s over. 2016 said that
I really can’t see the 76ers winning a championship ever. They’re an exciting regular season team who’s in the conversation. Like the Knicks and Pacers in the 90s.
At least the Knicks and pacers were going to multiple finals and conference finals in the 90s. The sizers can’t get pass the second round
EVER is a long time.
This time I don’t think doc is immediately going to get hired elsewhere. When he left Boston, he went to the LA clippers then Philly. Now I don’t see him going to Toronto, the suns and bucks are almost definitely not going to hire him. He may eventually be hired again but maybe not until the next year or two.
Boston traded him to LA.
It was crazy to see a coach be traded.
He needs to retire and go back to tv
He's had his run. The odd thing about Doc is he always did well when thier was not so much expected of him. But when the bright lights were on he was a no show.
@@gt-gu7rb I mean he did coach that 2019 Clippers team who push Golden State to 6 games... I think Doc is not built to coach teams that have multiple superstars on the roster... But he can do good as a coach on a young team
And rightly so. He doesn't deserve a job right now...too many failures man.
This is crazy 😮😮😮
I think they lost this one at the trade deadline. The Heat were active. The Suns were very active, and we know how much the Lakers improved at the deadline. And what did we hear from Philly, CRICKETS. Thats a problem
They had enough talent to get farther already. They were up 3-2 and in that game 6 they should’ve beat Boston and most likely would’ve made the finals

Pretty solid solid take.. Very true, Spoelstra has a team that’s not supposed to win anything and yet they’re always there. Doc Rivers gets a ring with 4 HOF’s and he gets treated like he’s the best coach to ever do it..

@brianschaffer9220 especially when JJ played with Doc on those Clippers teams
im shocked, he wasn’t fired yet?????
Good
It took them until late 3rd quarter to double team Tatum so that’s on doc but when they did double they rotated and recovered late that’s on the players
This is hilarious. Steve is quaking in his boots.
Doc Rivers is just a terrible coach. He has the most Game 7 losses in NBA history & he hasn’t made it past the semifinals since his time in Boston!
Granted he did win in 2008 but that team was loaded
Embiid stopped playing. Teammates were even ignoring him when he wanted the ball 26ft away from the basket.
JJ said ...they need a new voice.... *cough* and it's me. Lol
Doc has built a reputation of losing game 7s while leading series.
Rivers has a won a title as a head coach, but it's clear that at this point he is best suited to coach a rebuilding team that has no expectations. He seems to be a top 15-25 coach in the league at this point, although he probably could be a sufficient coach for an actual good team like the current Boston Team.
Part of his recent lack of success is the teams he's coached recently, for instance this Philly team ain't gonna do much better if it was coached by a prime Phil Jackson or Pop. Then he had the Clipper team with Blake Griff and CP3, ain't no coach in history leading CP3 to the Title so "there's that".
Don't know when the call time out Don't know how to motivate a team plays down the stretch always sucked
I DO NOT blame the coach on that game 7. I do not care about Joel Embiid's injury, i didnt see an injury on those missed shots.
Embiid need to donate that mvp award 😂
It's not that surprising, as soon as they lost Game 7, Doc was on the chopping block
Just shows how great Pop and Spo are. And Spo is under 60 and in amazing shape.
Often coaches get too much credit in wins and too much blame in losses. Harden looked like his mission in games 6 and 7 was to get Doc fired. 😮
A Nurse and a Doc got fired and the Bucks and Suns should be asking for a Nurse. The best coaches are Lue and Spo but the Clips are never healthy. Needs a real doc.
In most cases of a coach being fired, I feel sorry for them and it's usually unwarranted in my book. However in this case, it's long overdue. Doc shouldn't get another head coaching job for the rest of his career, maybe an assistant position.
*Here comes the support for the coach who couldn't get past the second round. Bro won one Chip with a super team and rode the gravy train from there.*
Come on JJ put your tweet up about it!
In a perfect world, Embiid, Harden and Doc would all get fired or traded. But we live in reality.
