Imagine if you cut them up first.
I told the dealer that last week when I was touring the car. He didn’t think it was funny
True story: My first car in high school was an 88 Town Car. Loved that thing. Because me and my friends were all poor kids, I once snuck 6 of my friends into a drive in movie. I bought two tickets for me and my buddy in the front seat and snuck SIX 16 year old kids in in the trunk. The tiny 90lb girl, who for whatever reason decided to volunteer to climb in the trunk first, was NOT happy when we got everyone in, as she had 5 kids laying on top of her. In a dark space. Good times.

Before you all laugh at the Town Car’s relatively low power output considering its 4.6 litre engine displacement and make some comment about your lawnmower making more power per litre, what you need to understand is this: the Town Car isn’t about speed or horsepower or quarter mile times. It’s all about delivering a smooth, comfortable and luxurious ride at any speed, and the Town Car delivers this in spades. It’s because of this that I like to think of the Town Car as a ‘poor man’s Mercedes S-Class’.
This also applies to the Town Car’s sister cars, the Ford Crown Victoria & the Mercury Grand Marquis.
Not only that, but because of the body-on-frame design, relatively simple mechanics and the fact that the Town Car’s V8 engine is massively under-stressed, the Town Car, along with its aforementioned Ford and Mercury sister cars, is notoriously reliable - one Town Car featured on Scotty Kilmer’s ‘Show-Off Sunday’ series on CZcams had done 486,000 miles (486,609 miles, to be exact) at the time of filming.
I like that old joke: It does not accelerate. It advances.
I mean I think it's fair to take shots at that engine in terms of power per liter because it's the same engine that was in the mustang GT of that vintage - and that was supposedly a sports car.
Is that the same guy who has the marauder?
my 98 mustang gt with the same 4.6 v8 makes less power then this :(
For what this kid paid for this car, it's a pretty bad ass ride. That air ride suspension alone would sell me if I was in the market for a Sopranos mafia type car.

@@JohnSmith-wx9wj Because in Japan, American cars represented power and wealth in the culture. There is a car tax that is based on the displacement of an engine of the vehicle in Japan. So, naturally, American cars with big engines were far more expensive to maintain because the tax pay is few times higher than other Japanese counterparts. That tax is why Mazda decided to invest in rotary engines for sportscar, so it can have smaller displacement engine with more power.

CZcams is full of useless car anecdotes of cars people bought at prices less than half of actual market value. Why bother?
I *love* these cars. I miss them so much. Years ago, this is what I wanted as a first car. Unfortunately, used ones are often in rough shape after 300K miles of livery service.
You should try one out. Yea the interiors usually aren't great but most of the mechanicals have been replaced at that kind of mileage. The fleet I worked for had gm vans, but anything that needed replacing would be replaced short of an engine past like 200k. Trans, rear ends, suspension parts would all be replaced as needed.

The door panels were made at Collins and Aikman in Athens, TN. I was on the assembly line in Athens for the door panels.
@@rasklaat2 We built the door panels for all Town Cars from 1989 to 2007. The place went went bankrupt in 07 and shut down.
@@rasklaat2 the bankruptcy was due to Collins and Aikman going in major debt when they purchased Textron Automotive, (which was the name of the same facility I worked before the purchase in 04). As a result of the purchase, Collins and Aikman “cooked” their books to make it look like the had more cash on hand. The S.E.C. brought charges on Collins and Aikman for that “ action “. There were 29 plants, and all closed. At the time, my plant had 550 hourly employees. All of this did happen at the start of the recession. We also made door panels for the C5 and C6 Corvettes also.
Did they ever reinforce the later Town Car door panels at the inside door handle where the plastic breaks and causes it to get stuck? I had to replace a whole panel for that reason. I couldn't use the Dorman fix bc it's only for cars without memory seat and heated seat switches.
@@josephmiddleton908 Not that I am aware of. The door panels were built by someone else after the 07 modes.

Yup, and they are on the steering wheel of most high trim Grand marquis, crown vics, and some town cars.
I love that they had HVAC controls on the steering wheel today's luxury cars don't have anymore.
Yeah, the generation Town Car before this one had the steering wheel you're referring to as well as the first year or two of this generation before they switched to the more modern hard-plastic-buttoned steering wheel. But in the back they just cut the controls from one side of the old wheel and stuck them there for all L models lol.
Parts bin parts bin parts bin parts bin...
@@man_on_wheelz As I understand it, the main reason for that was complaints from their....cough...older drivers. Buttons too small. Can't read them. Basically, the change in '05 to the larger buttons should be thought of as the "large print" version of that steering wheel.

Let's be honest, no one is EVER going to sit in the middle seat in the back of that car, so a one-piece rear floor mat does nothing useful. In fact, it makes cleaning the car that much more inconvenient because instead of carefully lifting one mat out of each side without spilling any of the accumulated dirt on the clean carpet below as you do so, you have to wrestle a floppy anaconda across the car and out one side, spilling all of that dirt onto your carpet along the way. Fun review! Middle aged Gen X here. Have owned and/or regularly driven all the "panther" platform cars. If you drive a lot, especially highway miles, and comfort during a commute becomes a quality of life issue for you, there is no beating a town car. They were fleet cars for a reason (reliable, low relative maintenance cost and longevity). Oh yeah, they're built very solidly and hold up well in car crashes. If you're going to buy one, look at 2003-2011 model years. You can still get a well preserved examples with lots of life left in them. If you can't find one, look at a highly optioned Mercury Grand Marquis, it's not a town car, but comes close. If you're willing to travel to score one...start your search in Florida. Oh yeah, if you get one, (any panther platform car, in fact) and it's in good enough condition to justify spending a little money on, upgrade the rear differential to a locking differential. (and if you really want to splurge, upgrade to 4:10 gears). Enjoy!
The crown vic also offered this stretched body style for fleet sales. Typically used as taxis.
