Great video Brian. I followed it and just successfully replaced mine today. By the way, there is a comment for this video that talks about the Variable Valve Timing Solenoid leaking which was causing oil to fall onto the alternator which is causing the failure. Sure enough, I looked at mine and the alternator was oil soaked so I went ahead and got a gasket kit for the VVT and replaced that while I was at it. I highly recommend folks do that to make sure you won't be replacing another alternator in less than a year.
Thank you for this video. I changed it on a 2015. It was very hard to get out and in. Much harder than it was for you. However i was able to complete this job with the assistance of my friends dad in 3 hours. You helped save me tons if i would have taken to a mechanic. I feel like a bad ass. I'm so glad it's over. Looks like that Variable Timing Solenoid that sits right above the alternator is leaking thats what ruined it. You can see all that caked up oil on old alternator and right above it. I replaced 3 alternators in last year till I figured it out. Don't repeat my mistake. Good thing they warranted them out for me.
Hey buddy, thanks so much for this comment. I saw it and when I got into my replacement sure enough my alternator was soaked with oil and I could see oil coming from the VVT. So, I got a kit for it at Advanced Auto and replaced those at the same time. I appreciate you sharing that insight!!
man i was fighting with the 14 mm bolt of the alternator thinking that was the tensioner bolt LOL ... i was like why the hell the belt not getting lose ... now i see where the real tensioner is .. i will try it tomrrow .. .thank you !
