I think I’m going to really like this album. The lyrics from all three songs released seem very vulnerable and intimate. It feels like they are letting us see a little of the struggles and insecurities they’ve experienced on their musical journey.
“We still cry sometimes because we’re no good at goodbyes...”. I think they might be referencing when Avi left possibly? Anyone else? I haven’t seen anyone mention it
And yes, the rhythm in this song is what stuck out to me initially... and then it’s BOOM wall of sound once the chorus hit. Big sound in unison yet it’s not a harsh loudness? Not sure how to express it lol
Oh wow... yes @Laurie! That must be what the crying was referencing. Leaving small town of Arlington, unexpected as they auditioned for the Sing Off after just joining together, big lights in spotlights on stage in big cities, staying connected through thick & thin... only PTX could personalize and summarize a 10 year journey in a song. Stunning. I think we are the lucky ones!
I adore this song! It is very unique sounding. The silent pauses are very deliberate and meaningful. The high "ooo" sound in the background is so cool... who do you think it is? Someone said they thought it was Kevin.

As a subscriber for some time, it was nice that you introduced yourself. It’s nice to know a little about you even if I am old enough to be your grandfather or possibly great grandfather.

I'm with you on that one, Bingo! I'm 66, and have been a pentaholic since I first heard them many years back. Another fan of theirs is my daughter, who has her own blues band in Nashville (Nikki is the same age as some of these folks at 29). One 'problem' with PTX is that, as incredible as they are vocally, every one of their videos is so creative and well done that after watching them, you never again want to just LISTEN to their CDs. I have a file on my computer that consists of nothing but their 'official' videos for every song I've been able to find, in chronological order as best as I can. My only regret is that they don't have a video for EVERY song they've ever done.

It was musically intricate but was kind of flat for me musically. The lyrics of the song were better than the music. The lyrics did seem to have a lot of personal references to their lives and musical journeys, which I think all of us can appreciate. We all have struggles and hopefully growth and I think they did a good job of communicating theirs..
Really looking forward to the album. Really liked Happy Now, Be My Eyes, and their latest Christmas album was just amazing musically and emotionally.
We are lucky to hear them.

i mean, a LOT of melodies and songs have been made, it is no surprise new sounds are going to sound like others, but I honestly don’t hear much of firework? It is vaguely there tbh
I know you love PTX Jessica. But the way it feels for me is that the last couple of years,there has not been any realy strong songs by them.
It is nice..sure. But i lack songs that stand out and are..Hits.
So for me PTX need to expand and rejuvenate themselves,or the sale numbers are going to drop...

They are past the point where they are worried about money. Except for Matt, they’re all millionaires. Like most artists these days, PTX makes most of their money touring. Also on CZcams
@@lauriep2018 That might well be,that they have all the money they need,and fame. But when you are not hungry anymore you become less likely to experiment and expand your horizons.
Pentatonix biggest hits are Cover versions,not self made songs/compositions.
And they would never have been where they are today without thos same cover versions.
Listening to many recent songs by them...I get this sneaky feeling that they ARE satisfied with their position. And it is a dangerous place to be creative. Many bands and artists have gone down that path before them and experienced standstill and stagnation.
I do not criticise them for their vocal skills or love for what they do...but for the quality of the songs they release. Its pleasant enough..but unless you are a Big fan of theirs it becomes somewhat middle of the road as interesting to listen to. Good work but songs that dont stick...if you get my point.
The Acapella band Naturally 7 is in a similar spot as Pentatonix. They have some fantastic tracks in the past but now release good sounding but a bit middle of the road interestingly songs.
At their prime Naturally 7 is AS good as Pentatonix. Listen to their cover version of Your The Voice (Long version). Or their own compositions "Wall of Sound".."Gallileo"
Just extreme tallent and great compositions.

@@yourmaninlondoncollecting5749 I would have to respectfully have to disagree with you. I think they work harder than ever and their arrangements are genius. They are so very pop influenced and that is reflected in their song choices. I can see how, if people prefer more classic rather than pop songs, how it can seem rather bland. They’ve been working on this original album for a long time because they really reflected on their last one and realized they really need to find their voice. The Pentatonix album was great but you could tell that they were still trying to figure it out find their sound. A lot of the songs just seemed kind of odd to gi sound with the rest of the album. In fact, I just watched an interview with Kevin and he mentioned that they wanted to find out what sound the band wants to have and then his to present that to everyone. I really respect that- they did the same thing waiting to cover bohemian rhapsody for a looming time because they didn’t want to disrespect that classic by covering it Bernie they choice perfect it.
In any case, the only directional change they seemed to have taken, at least to me, is to embrace their love of current pop songs.
When you aren’t in it for the money, you have the freedom to experiment and take chances because you aren’t worried about going broke.
Your right, they got their fame by working their asses off to prove to the public that a capella music could be as mainstream as any other genre. Covering contemporary songs was/is an excellent way to reach more people and turn them into the genre. Out of every a capella group out there, Pentatonix is the only one to accomplish this and we’ll continue to. I’m not saying other groups aren’t talented but ptx pushes the envelope continually. I rreeaaallyy don’t understand where you think that they have gotten lazy or don’t try anymore. I really just think that you don’t prefer their cover songs and/or think that taking their time to perfect their sound before releasing their second album is a sign of laziness rather than hard work
