It was actually done with the floyd rose tremolo bar. He unscrewed it from the guitar and ran it across the strings muted. It makes the notes more defined and clean than a pick would. I would assume that he does it with a pick live because it would be impossible to unscrew it during the solo.

  • @mitchhaelann9215
    @mitchhaelann9215 Před 3 lety +6

That lifting-trick was him using the 'whammy bar'. It's s special thing some electric guitars have that changes the tension on the strings, changing the entire sound the guitar makes on the fly. A skilled electric guitarist can make his instrument sound like four or five different instruments. Herman Li got the strings going to make the notes, then changed the notes without touching the strings by playing with the Whammy.
Dude is definitely a master at his craft.

    • @ShaggyRogers1

To explain "how he do that?" when it comes to the noises at 1:52 and 4:40
Both Herman Li and Sam Totman have guitars equipped with something called a "Floyd Rose bridge." Without getting too tecnical, this bridge can pivot forward and backwards through use of an arm (you can see the thin piece of metal in Herman's hand during the 1:52 trick, you can also see Sam's pointing backwards at 1:49) and change the pitch of the notes being played.
In fact, your "Air Guitar" has the same type of bridge system, it's the large black shape with a bent line coming off it furthist away from where you put your left hand (the neck). Heck, your air guitar seems to be designed to look like an Ibanez brand, the same brand Herman's using in the video.

Those who are fans of Guitar Hero will recognize this song because during the credits after you win you play this song. It was impossible!

Saw them in concert once. One of the best parts was when the keyboard player busted out a keytar and did a music 'battle' with one of the guitar players to give the rest of the band a break.

Herman Li's an amazing guitarist and the rest of the band is excellent as well, gotta give props to the drummer that guy was basically doing a full sprint for the entire song. Legend says that much like Samson Herman Li's power comes from his hair and if he were to cut it he would lose his ability to play guitar.

You make a good point....Dragonforce never seems to come up when they talk about greatest guitar player and as you can see they have 2 guys on guitar that should be in that conversation. The stuff they do, the sounds they produce I've never heard anywhere else. It's just something else and I forget about them all the time.

The answer to the question is actually Sam Toteman. Herman does all the fancy shit but during most of the song, Sam is doing raw thrash riffs. Just fast and heavy. I like some wank like everyone else but the shred is unstoppable

Daaamnn, should've done the full version. They chopped a lot of parts off in the music video. Dope reaction regardless.

  • @Queen_of_Hearts-Sharnell

I looked forward to hearing this again. It is so intense that is blows my actual mind, and knowing that they play an entire show like this, you have to know how physically demanding that would be. There is just no way they would be able to do any substances and hit that hard. I would have messed up within the first 6 notes. Of course I do not know how to play any instrument, so I am always impressed with anyone that knows their craft. Glad you got to hear this!

I'm reminded of the Guitar Mag interview with the guitarist from Psyopus.
"Well... so I was sending demos of me playing all around and eventually I got a call back and the lady on the phone said that the boss wanted to see a video because he thought the audio was sped up. So I sent them a video and she called back to say "He was very impressed, but sadly we can't sponsor you if you're going to shake our guitars over your head while holding them by the whammy bar." So that relationship didn't really pan out, but I do get discounts from them now."

He's pulling up on the tremolo bar aka the whammy bar and holding the guitar just by the bar that's how he's getting no sound out of it when he lifts it up

  • @schwindsichtigaderechte5293

Speed and accuracy aren't the only things to be taken into account when you talk about the best guitar players. There are also things like intonation, sound quality, musicality, etc. With that being said, Herman Li and Sam Totman are certainly awesome guitar shredders, in the same realm as Michael Angelo Batio.

Dragonforce found their 5 min of fame from Guitar Hero, with this exact song.. They're usually seen as over the top and flamboyant just because they could... Still, this "one hit wonder because of Guitar Hero", has more meat on on their bones (and definitely more miles travelled, still to this day) than most 1HW these days... Herman Li streams on twitch from time to time, catch him while you can!
