    Thanks for the kind words and checking out the X-Mid Pro 2+. You did a super nice job pitching it (both the tent itself and the beautiful spots).
    Glad to hear you're really liking the tent. The DCF floored version tips the scales at just 19.4 oz (550g) which seems to make it the worlds lightest tent that can fit two wide rectangular pads. It's been a fun project trying to make something with such an unsurpassed volume:weight ratio.
    Also thanks for the tip about the LineLoc hooks. Those are pretty cool. This year we're including micro LineLocs for the guylines but those don't clip on like these do. I am seriously considering including this for a future update. I also appreciate the suggestion about lowering the pockets a bit. I like them to span the full width of the panel so they're sewn into the seams (stronger). They get awfully wide/prone to hanging open if they're really low, but I probably can and should lower them down a bit. Might be able to adjust them down 6". Thanks for this.
    For the price of the tent, the actual pricing is a tough lower than mentioned here (e.g. $669 not $680) but yeah DCF is expensive. We've been working to lower our prices on it, so the X-Mid Pro 2+ is actually slightly less than last years regular size X-Mid Pro and those other models dropped by $40-$50, but yeah DCF is expensive. I hope it comes down but don't think it'll happen until they automate the production which they're talking about but they've been talking for a lot of years.
    Glad you're liking the tent,
    Dan

      To get the pocket to not sag, would it be possible to stitch/bond the pocket in the middle, splitting it into two? In theory this stitch wouldn't take much load, so it shouldn't compromise the strength of the pocket too much. As long as both sides are wide enough to fit a phone in, having it split shouldn't be an inconvenience.

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear Před 5 měsíci

      @@RayHikes Are you talking about ridgeline pockets like we have on the non-Pro tents? We don't have them on the Pro because it's trying to be a superlight tent and it already has two other pockets, but yeah we could do a full length ridgeline pocket like this. It would have to sew to the canopy of the fly, so it's a lot of stitching and extra tape though. I prefer to locate pockets on mesh so we don't have to seal the holes after.

    • @RayHikes
      @RayHikes Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@durstongear was more thinking of the pocket on the side mesh. Drop it down, and fasten it in the center so it doesn’t sag forward as much. Would be more material than the pocket is now, probably by double, but I’m not sure how much weight that would really add. Then the pocket would be low so Justing could reach it with his t-Rex arms lol. Ridgeline pocket isn’t something I’d expect/want on the pro line, seems like it would be out of place. Thanks for the reply Dan, I love your designs!

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear Před 5 měsíci +3

      @@RayHikes Thanks for the kind words! I see what you mean now. Most people seem pretty happy with the sidewall pocket location, but yeah some people want it lower. I could use the same design and lower it a few inches. More than that it would be getting awfully long and tend to hang open. I could just sew a pocket that doesn't extend to the fly, but that's a bit clumsy. I could also split it in two. That would work - it just seems like a bit of a overkill solution. Might be best just to move it a bit lower.

    I outfitted a group of ten senior women with tents for a kayak outing this summer. Several were novices, a couple had some camping experience, two were very experienced and one completed the AT. The tents I had for them to choose from were: MSR Hubba, North Face TriArch, Zpacks Duplex & Altaplex, Hilleberg Soulo & Allak 3, KUIU Mtn Star & Storm Star and Duston X Mid Pro 2. What I found extremely interesting is: after watching me pitch these tents, then checking out the interiors, crawling in and out, and laying on 25" inflatable NEMO pads in them, the ONE TENT they all wanted for the trip was the X MID PRO 2. Why? It was the quick and easy to pitch, entry and exit was easy, interior room was more than adequate for one plus gear, adjustable ventilation, bug netting, zippered doors and bug netting. were the reasons given. Unfortunately I only had one and they drew straws to see who used for the trip. Another interesting note: All the ladies wanted their own tent. As it turned out a couple of them shared. In the end they all had a great trip. Dan Durston you are on to something. I ordered a 2+ already. I may need more because these ladies already have a trip planned for next summer.

    Great review Justin! I've been using those same hook linelocs with 1.5mm dyneema cord that I picked up from Ripstop by the Roll. Love the versatility of these, as I use these with my poncho tarp I sometimes bring as a separate makeshift eating shelter away from the campsite, and now also on my Pro 2.

    The dipole I have uses a hook lineloc on the doors and I it hard to get through the webbing loops so I just put on small guyline loops there instead. It's only a few grams and the hook attaches better to that cordage especially once tensioned.

As for the guy outs, it’s typical size with dyneema tents. As for steaks, the Big Country Tube Steaks work just as good with these tents as does MSR stakes on the corners as well as doors. People seem to 🤷🏼‍♀️. They want gear to be light and comfortable

      Because my husband and I both sleep in the tent and want to sleep comfortably while carrying less weight compared to taking a double walled tent and tent poles.

      lighter tent = "free" weight for comfort add ons: larger pot, isolated mug, wider mattress (better sleep), camp chair, camp shoes all are now free and still lighter due to the 2.5lbs I'm saving vs my BA copper spur. No brainer, just have to pay for it

    Be glad it is just a tent. My griend recently paid 140k for a sail for his boat.

    You forgot the other big negative - it lets a heap of light in, not great in areas with long day lengths. Oh and privacy, it's got none lol

    NO one talks but, Durston (X-Mid) cloned this tent from the Sierra Designs - High Route 3000 1P 🙂 this tent was released several years earlier than X-mid

    Website says 52 inches wide. Yet, you claim 54.
    The height of those pockets is hilarious.

    Hi Justin, if thats the tent of your dreams you haven't tested the Zpacks Duplex Zip... its way, way, way, way better.

      Plus it's made in the US. Durston tents are made in China.

      You mean the one that Zpacks built ripping off the X-Mid design choices after saying they would not? Keep drinking the Zpacks kool aid buddy. Zpacks makes overpriced, low quality products that might make hipsters like you happy, but are poor choices for most. Plenty of other brands, apart from Durston, that are much better than Zpacks.

      @@thewanderingsoul71 I just did the Cape wrath trail with it old chap… was perfect. Also had the mid pro which flaps like a sail in the wind. Unless you have tried both you don’t really know what you’re talking about.

      I have, the Duplex Zip is not more me. I actually like the super minimal designs from Zpacks more - like the regular Duplex or Plex Solo.

    Let’s have a little history lesson, tent sizing was originally based on a survival situation, not livability. I cringe every time I hear all of you big time tubers talk about the livability.
