if shanks turns out to be morally grey than i could see this being the kind of thing where shanks losing buggy (and vice versa) set both of them on a worse path, and how luffy and ussop didn't make the same mistake, and it would cement Ussop and Luffy's connection and Ussop's importance on the crew (hopefully alongside some meaningful powerups, i love ussop fights, he needs to be on a certain level to get real wins and having the designated underdog jump up to a high level would be something most anime never do and be so rewarding). Maybe if shanks and yassop and his crew are morally grey, ussop and buggy would have a moment of kinship over their disappointment
I know it's sort of a meme, but I genuinely think that the significant moment they meet will be a fight. Not just any kind of fight, but an honorable duel where the main thing on the line is their pride, akin to Dorry vs Brogy or Franky vs Señor Pink or Luffy vs Katakuri. Manga spoilers ahead. Ever since Little Garden, Usopp has admired the giants for their bravery and honor, and the catalyst for this admiration was the duel between Dorry and Brogy. Because of this, I think a big part of Usopp's character arc will be to have a duel like this of his own. Despite how much of lying and cunning cowards they both are, they also have shown themselves to have a bit of honor towards them. Usopp has shown this several times, such as in his fights against Luffy or Ms. Merry Christmas. Buggy has only really shown his more honorable side to him recently in the manga when he called out Mihawk & Crocodile for not acting as pirates should. Now that Buggy is an Emperor and officially going after the One Piece, the Straw Hats are bound to face off against Cross Guild. Even if Buggy got a power-up, he has no chance against Luffy but could definitely fight Usopp, the weakest person on the crew. It would be both an interesting and on-brand move for Oda to have such silly characters to have such a significant and honorable battle. Or at least as much honor a liar and a clown can have. Plus, imagine how much Usopp's bounty is going to skyrocket when news comes out that he defeated an Emperor by himself.
I am of the theory that the reason ussop and buggy never met is that in the final arc in laughtale buggy and ussop will have a "hot potatoe" moment over the one piece where one tries to keep amping up the lies he tells the other and would believe them never actually having met before
I have a feeling that each of the Straw Hats will end up having/already have an inverse character who relates to their status as pirates in some way. For Zoro, as the channel Joy Boy said recently, it could end up being Mihawk (if it's revealed that he left Shanks' crew, in a similar fashion to Buggy, once he gave the metaphorical crown and literal hat to Luffy). For Usopp, it's Buggy, as he has literally always talked about being his own captain, but doesn't follow that dream due to standing in his own captain's light. For Franky, it could be a host of different people, but possibly Vegapunk, for offering an immoral entity his scientific knowledge instead of, for instance, literally burning blueprints to an ancient weapon to protect the lives of innocent people. Luffy obviously has Blackbeard as an inversion to his character... Idk, maybe I'm wrong, but Oda really seems to like inverting his characters through other people by making them *almost* the same, but profoundly "worse" through minor choices said characters have made, and I can see it being more obvious at the end of the series. Might be totally wrong, though!
To be honest I don’t want him to be a Serious character or have a big role I liked him as a minor non threatening antagonist/an ally Just to make the situation lighthearted and not to make anything too serious It is his charm to me like the marine Ford would’ve been depressing without him and him being there prevented it of becoming that I don’t think every character should have a big role but I am happy that people are excited for him to be a more serious character
Ive been saying this for years! Finally someone else realizes it!! These legends are destined to clash. Hear me out, cross guild vs strawhats. Crocodile vs mr prince, mihawk vs zoro, AND buggy vs not luffy but god usopp!! Usopp will have the 2nd highest bounty on the crew cause he beat an emperor lmao. They are the same in the sense that none of their bounties have ever been accurate to their strength, its all been based on myth and legend. But i also like your idea of buggy reconciling with shanks, and even buggy has a chance to literally get credited with finding the one piece somehow so honestly anything can happen
