Sipping on my Russell's single barrel non-store pick right now and I enjoy the hell out of this whiskey. So much cinnamon and dusty wood notes that you mentioned in the video. Those are right up my alley! Sticking my nose in the glass reminds me of waking into a walk-in humidor. Love it!

I love my bottle of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. It drinks like fat kid whiskey. Just fruit, caramel, cream, and baking spice. You can't beat the price either.

I’ve only had one RRsib pick and I didn’t prefer it to the regular sib, which is my favorite super-available bourbon in its price/proof range.
I ordered a russels shelf bottle and it arrived yesterday. It's so disappointing. The worst purchase I've made for awhile. Tastes like a cheap whiskey masquerading as something premium. Really rough on the nose and the flavour. It's not super bad but not the smooth flavourful whiskey i was expecting. I put it at a bit below a makers mark 46 in level of quality

Completely agree on letting normal Russell’s breathe. Didn’t like it first two times trying it. Let it sit for maybe 6 months, came back and I’m really digging it now.

Hey, have you ever noticed how whiskey tastes different depending on its temperature? I swear whiskey is sweeter and more full bodied when its warmer, vs cold.
The whisky doesn’t change, your ability to pick up more definite notes is lessened when the food/drink is cold.
Its true. I used to keep my whiskey glasses in the freezer but stopped doing it because it mutes all the flavours and aromas. Also the glasses smell like the freezer. If i have a rough shitty whiskey i keep the bottle in the freezer though to make it more bearable

I can see that. I have had some flat bottles before that were still decent to me. But I have had some bottles that were truly amazing as well. I went through a total of 12 bottles so far over the past 4 years. Of the 12 bottles, 3 were mind blowing, 6 were good and solid and 3 were kind of flat or average.
With the hut temperature updates coming and it being so hot and sweaty, how have we not had 1 reference to step brothers??
I bought 4 store picks of this and haven't found one that did much for me. Haven't given up though. Also, not proud, but Dan tricked me into thinking there were 3 cameras for a second.
I have a Russell's pick that I picked up on a chlorine note on for the first time the other day. Glad to know it isn't just mine.

Can you explain why you think Nutty is a bad tasting note?
It's not, I think rare breed is nutty and love it. It's when it's just nutty and no other balanced flavors to go with it.
Won't there be variance from bottle to bottle even on the standard, non store pick Russell's red label since it's a single barrel product?
Variance sure, but they are normally picked with a specific profile in mind. The picks are all over the place

Just tried the Russell's 10yr last week... it's my new favorite. $40 well spent
The single barrels are good in general. Even the more flat ones I have had were good for 50$. I have had some mind blowing bottles that drank like 70$ bourbons. At the 50$ price range. So no matter what you are getting your money's worth. What I am saying is it at least drinks like a 50$ bourbon and sometimes you get a bottle that drinks like a 70$ bottle.

Honestly, I always go for the regular Russell's. Picks are just as much of a gamble, and I'd rather gamble with less money for the same reward.

Hi ya'all Someone always has to muck up the comments.... well here goes. While talking about bourbon is great content, the title of this vid begs which is better - the store pick or production run. Fact is "neither " is "better" ONLY Different Remember that these are single barrels and are picked by distillery by floor and rack position and the "store picks" are also picked the same way but a DIFFERENT location perhaps -- so is one better -- mmm maybe (subjectively ) but probably only different.
Just because it’s not a store pick doesn’t mean it’s not good. Maybe it wasn’t included in a pick.

"Normal" Russell's is already a single barrel product, so it makes sense to me that it would be hard to pick out in a line up against store picks. Every bottle is already going to have some variety.
Yea but I would say they still follow a very consistent process to make them as similar as possible while holding out barrels they think are interesting for picks
Have any of you junkies out there had some buddies that were so ridiculously good and experienced in euchre that you could play one card or even no cards, and then they just all tossed in instantly and were able to tell YOU what your cards were??
