I was fortunate to be in attendance for Jake vs Hulk on February 28, 1987 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. My first live show as an 11 year old and still remember the night well,
Wish I could have gone to a show back in the Golden Era days. I was a kid then but just never got to go.
@@AceGoodheart my first show was WM 3 and even though they were nosebleeds I loved it then I went to 8 down in Indy I paid 32 bucks for 4 tickets nose bleeds again it was pretty great
@@danmason6116 Probably the best wrestling experience right there....WM3. I bet every time you hear about WM3 you proudly tell yourself "I was there". I know I would. Awesome experience.
I went to this past Wrestlemania in Dallas. Although I'm not a big fan of today's wrestling I still had a great time. I've been to the 2020 Royal Rumble in Houston and I will probably go to the Royal Rumble in San Antonio next month. Again, I'm not a big fan of today's wrestling but going to Wrestlemania and Royal Rumble are pretty fun experiences.
I still think Jake & Hulk should have had a tittle feud Vince should have seized the opportunity to have 2 Golden geese and it would have made more stars in the long run. Marketing 2 top stars feuding would have been twice the business. Vince dropped the ball
So glad Jake got the help he needed. One of my favorites of all time.
Man I love listening to Jake. His mind is just a Wrestling encyclopedia.
This is easily my new favourite podcast. Jake is popular with us fans because he is one of us, he keeps it real and his stories are hilarious. Cannot wait to watch episode 3.
People forget how big this guy’s heart is, and his level of empathy. His stories about Andre prove this.
Loved the Hasbro figures! I can still remember my grandpa giving me enough money for the ring and 2 figures. "You need a good guy and a bad guy." I chose Jake and DiBiase.
Great choices. Loved the hasbro wrestlers. Still have them.
So excited to be meeting Hulk Hogan next month. I got to meet DDP and Jake the Snake at WrestleCon in Dallas during Wrestlemania week. Very cool meeting the wrestlers I grew up watching.
Heck yea, I met Jake and Hulk on the same DAY in Orlando it was EPIC
The Snake🐍 Pit is back baby!💪I'm having 80's flashbacks!🤯
Absolutely LOVE the Snake Pit! Jake is the BEST
Oh shut up
I’m ready for the Snakepit!!
Jake was one of the few guys who never screamed and carried on like a lunatic during his promos. It only made him more sinister!
man jake was so good... he did such great promos and had a great gimmick to go with that DDT... one of the best promo guys ever
I'm stunned to see there was actually an official Red Rooster tshirt!
I was a huge fan of his. I'd get it.
jake was my favorite was my favorite wwf guy grownin up man i loved dameon and how he win or lose he always bring the snake out
yes as kid growin up in the 80s my dad showed me jake and when damion came out the bag i loved them both i was hooked and when i saw andrie the giant also hooked 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
As a child of the 80s who absolutly loved wrestling back then this was simply awsome!! Thank you Jake for all the amazes memories!!
Absolutely Love The Snake Pit 🐍. Jake You are The Best !
that intro.. fucking amazing. probably better for jake that he didn't get fed to hogan. jake was the #2 babyface for a while. he got guys ready to face hogan.
Jake is awesome on a podcast format. I think he can even do podcasts that are not just about wrestling and he would be great.
Man can't believe my favorite has a podcast... love you Jake
i look forward to these podcasts. love jake's stories
Another great podcast in the can; and love your shirt Jake!
Always amazed that wrestlers can tell you where they were and when something went down given all the dates in their history. Both Jake and Hogan can pinpoint the match taking place in Providence decades later.
Great show, btw. Was not aware this was launched. Subscribed.
Genuinely incredible to see how far Jake has come from the rock bottom that he hit... still an incredible story teller with a great recollection for the details. Great podcast.
Great show and great memories of Hulk Hogan
Surprised Conrad's big ass isn't jocking to get in on this action. Good duo here
Conrad’s a jabroni…
Hulk Hogan is the man in wrestling he made wrestling what is today the man the icon the wrestling legend bg superstar ever
Ric Flair is the real icon. He should of been a Hollywood actor. Just never did a movie like hulk Hogan.
I agree
Hulk hogan beat RIC flair at bash at the beach 94 hulk Hogan is the man
MR. host, STOP ✋️ interrupting Jake. Let him free style
Totally agree. I've got to get better about laying out and letting Jake do his thing. Appreciate the feedback and you checking out the show!
Jake wouldn't fit in modern WWE at all. It's like Disney world there now.
Shut up
@@EverybodysGotAPod dude you’re doing fine don’t listen to these morons
If anything jake needs to quit cutting him off
I really love your podcast Jake 🐍🐍
Very happy to see Jake doing his thing in life and in the business. That’s awesome to see. “ Don’t call it a comeback, the snakes been here for years “
Saw Hogan all the time on tv Saturday nights as a kid
So good to see Jake looking and sounding healthy, stay strong brother
I wholeheartedly agree with Jake and yourself, Marcus; NOTHING in wrestling today feels special anymore. Back when Jake was in his heyday, the people anticipated the DDT and Jake would tease it a few times, or the opponent would slink out of it once or twice, and then BOOM! Jake would wind that finger in the air and hit that sucker and the place would climax! Wrestlers today don't know how to work. There should be a little back and forth at the start, a slow build, a rise, and a crescendo. Today it's exactly as you said; high spot, high spot, high spot, high spot, guys kicking out of moves that should be reserved for the finish, and then no climax at the pinfall. It's crap and it breaks my heart to see that magic formula f*cked with so badly. It ain't rocket science, and I'm not even a wrestler! The impatience of today's so-called wrestling "fan" is also a problem. They want it all and they want it now. Isn't that the world we live in though? A shame.
The hour flew by good show
Love the snake pit 👍
That was one of the smartest things about the booking of Hogan in the WWF; the fact that he was presented as THE attraction and you had to buy a ticket to see him. That's what's lost in today's wrestling environment. There are no larger than life stars anymore. Most of them are guys of a previous generation that happen to still be doing it; like Sting. The closest I can think of in terms of wrestlers booked as big attractions today would probably be Brock Lesnar.
Everything you've said on this page can also be applied to modern entertainment in general.
undertaker
@@jamesphillips5926 Yes, he was also. He's retired now though, which is why I went with Brock Lesnar. He may be the only real current active attraction.
I feel the dream match missed was Bret Hart vs Jake Roberts.
Psychology vs Psychology
i loved jake vs sting in the coalminers glove match 😊😮
I was at the show in Providence and the crowd was not dead! I was young but I remember a lot of people cheering for Jake, I know I was!
I think Jake the Snake was quite an incredible wrestler back in his prime… Roberts and Hogan were the greatest promos of all time. This would have been one of the best matches in history. With Hogans look and Jakes storytelling, would have been epic…
Best of luck to you Jake…
1 of the greatest best talkers promos of all time. 🎤 Jake The 🐍 The Entrance Music🎶 Is Instilled In My Head.
WATCHA GONNA DO BROTHER
I love ddp but jake goin out on his own is the best idea because he's front row and centre love the podcast
Greatest Snake Pit and I NEVER seen it I can only just imagine it by what they say happened... only for now maybe one day the video will be shown.
4:50-Well of course we noticed, Jake!
Jake was originally one of the Road Warriors.
Legion of Doom you mean
I like the way Jake did not take this opportunity to shit all over Hogan as many of his contemporaries do, shows he is a classy guy and understands the business better than 99% of other guys, bit like Hogan himself.
I love Hulk Hogan
Jeez a wrestling podcast without Conrad! Jake is a Genius so any host will do.
Wonder if Jake vs Hulk could have worked in Japan? Hulk actually wrestled in Japan - I wish he used that style over in the states.
I was only thinking about this at random the other day. Would the 1980s wrestling boom have been as big as it was without Hulk Hogan? Without Terry Bollea playing Hulk Hogan. Could anyone else have pulled it off at the time. Maybe, but I have my doubts. You can't deny that Terry as Hulk had charisma by the truck load. A lot of people got rich off of that.
I'd love to hear a rick Martel episode
I bet he won't tell the truth about why that came about.
I swear I have seen the hogan snake pit ddt bit I can't remember where
Jake is a true legend! He knows more about the business than anyone...I could listen to him all day.
I echo those sentiments.
I started watching wrestling because of Hulk Hogan in 1985………
Can someone tell me what happend to him doing this with ddp ?
Dallas just has a lot going on. No heat!
This is what Jake wanted and it's great!
I'm surprised DDP hasn't end up in AEW yet
@@makaveli4205 He was already there. First year and into the 2nd. He was part of the Nightmare Family with Cody Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes, Arn Anderson, etc. He wrestled his final match in AEW too and was incredible!
czcams.com/video/R9_4f0AJd3o/video.html
Ddp is on his GRIND
We've got to get the lost ddt out there
Right..
Hogan was the man in the 80s
I am a Hulk Hogan fan for life…….
The Hogan payday was no joke, and Jake isn’t exaggerating on this. I remember King Kong Bundy saying that he got more for wrestling Hogan at WM2 in one night, then he had gotten for almost every other match he had worked prior, combined.
I loved watching jake on TV. I know he was a bad guy, but he was so fun to watch. Glad you are doing well my friend.
Did jake ever wrestle JYD?
Yes he did...believe around the same time as the Hogan program he's talking about in this week's episode
All
Does anyone else think Jake might have heard a few DDT chants and it wasn't pro crowd DDT chants like he remembers?
I definitely think Jake is lying about that.
Even if it did happen, the WWF was using fake crowd noise, so why would that matter?
If I had to guess it was probably a mixture of chants for Hulk and the DDT. Jake was a cool heel that people were starting to like, and the DDT was over like crazy. But Hulk was still Hulk.
Why rain on the parade? I remember watching that match and smake's tech. was awesome.
I had heard Jake Speak about this in the past
Name the 5.
I had so many rubber snakes as a kid. And used to hide them all over the house to scare my parents. I would take them on vacation and everything
Jake is the real SNAKE 🐍 MAN before Steve Austin
That angle needed a third element. If there was a third element as in a female. In Hogan's corner.. the crowd would have chanted Hogan... But because the third element was not there they chanted DDT. DDT...
Oct 16 1986 here bro ♎
I'll say this:
I never was a big hulk Hogan fan, same match (on his side) every time.
BUT, he was successful in helping bring wrestling to the spotlight. He pushed wrestling hard, so I will say he was good for wrestling but without Vince pushing him he would be only average. Ric Flair, Jake Roberts, and Freebirds was my top rasslers!
Yes, watch along when dark journey gets dropped and humongous run
What happened to the podcast with Jake, DDP and Conrad?
Lex luger is the most shocking off all
22:48 does Jake use the REX MD so he can have a rock of a whitesnake where his family pride is
I would have loved to see Jake grab Nick Hogan in the DDT, and before he drops him, Brooke run over and plead with Jake not to do it, then he grabs her, too, for a double DDT. Afterwards, dump the snake on Brooke and let it crawl on her as he gives the boots to an unconscious Nick. That would have brought some major heat for sure. I’ve always been a huge Jake fan and absolutely loved his heel work. I really wish Jake could have gotten that World Title run. Unfortunately, I’d have been one of those fans yelling “D-D-T!!!” instead of “HO-GAN, HO-GAN…!!” that cost him his shot. Sorry, Jake…. I just love ya. You were just too cool not to cheer for 😎 😊
The host does not know enough to be hosting Jake Roberts
I agree.. we need more bret hartt style... Less Shawn. It's like most of the wrestlers today grew up playing wrestling video games and do their matches like you would in the game lol.. no build.. no electricity.. no emotion.
It's too bad it would be years before WWE became hip to the anti-hero babyface. Jake Roberts was like a prototype for what Austin became. Jake could be a cold, mean SOB and the fans just ate it up. That's what they wanted. And Vince buried him for it!
After seeing everything with Terry and How much of a glory hound and he takes it so personal when guys might best him and do. As with Jake He did shady shit to alot of Others The Undertaker Included to me Jake was the best!
The great Jake 🐍 Robert's when had Real wrestler's.Have to work the crowd the wrestling today is not as great as it was in the 80s and into the 90swrestlers god bless man all your days ✝️🕊️🇺🇸
FANS CALLING DDT
THAT DOESN'T WORK FOR ME
BROTHER
Show is better without DDP... And anything without Con-Ad Thompson is great
When are people gunna.stop selling the 6.8 hogan??...Jake himself has said in an earlier interview..that hogan was 6.4...lol...and before people say "in his prime" stuff...my dad was a legit 6.5.back in 87..we met hogan at an autograph signing he stood up and was on even ground with my dad..and my dad couldn't believe how short hogan was..he even said "I'm bigger thsn.hulk.."..he still.thought the 6.8 thing was real...but found out about "billed " and "real" sizes that day..lol
That is what I hated in the late 80's with Hogan promo's and this and that but you never saw him wrestle in the ring on TV always pay per view odd how Jake mentions this and I've been thinking about that. But it's BS you build the guy up on TV but can't see him other wise. But I'm glad looking on it now because the guy could not wrestle. There was a video store in the area I lived and they had all the VHS tapes of the big events so I didn't need pay per view I didn't know how to do that anyway plus my Mom didn't have the pay channels on cable anyway.
He hurt Hogan end of push
Cold as a razor blade as tight as a tourniquet on the skin of a dying man….. those are lyrics sort of turned around from the Pink Floyd song #oneofmyturns
Hulk Hogan had excellent talking skills on the microphone…….
Well you know something bruther.💯
Thank God the conman isn't on this podcast
👍👍🇺🇸
You are literally trying to instigate to get a negative reaction out of Jake the snake 🐍 lol 😝 Don’t get it twisted I loved Jake the snake 🐍 being a HULKSTER fan I loved my era at the time!!!
I love Jake….but losing out on $10 million dollars by not getting the run with Hogan?
That is a lot of money, especially 30 years ago……..how could he have made that much by working with one guy for 6 months?
Love ya -sam elliott- jake but quit being like meltzer to alvarez
Hogan knows hes gonna be very hot in his next life. Lol hes gonna try to keep this life forever lol😅
Well put...
I think the Hulkster has sadly exhausted all of his "good karma" this time around on the wheel!
IF YOU WOULDVE DONE U AND HULK U WOULDVE BEEN IN the ring for hours on end 2 technol wreslers to go on for hrs...on end..
WWE still hasn't released that Hulk Hogan Snakepit segment or the match from Providence. They are CRUEL!
1990 would have been way too early for Hogan’s heel turn, and it more than likely would have flopped. It was the wrong time in history. A lot of things changed between 1990 and 1996. 1990 was still the 80s really. By the time of 96, a lot of things had happened culturally that made a Hogan heel turn make sense. Anti Heros were becoming a popular thing. Edgy content was mainstream and out in the open. Shows like Beavis and Butthead and South Park. Music had changed. Gangsta Rap, Grunge, and Nu Metal had taken off as a big influence, musically and culturally. All of the ingredients were there. People simply weren’t ready for it in 1990.
The right time to turn Hogan heel was 92. The fans cheered when at the Royal Rumble Sid eliminated Hogan from behind.
This podcast needs DDP back...badly.
DDP is probably really busy. He always has a lot of energy
The Hart's and Bulldog's used to close the show too when Hogan would work before intermission because he wanted room service....Hogan no doubt is responsible for the WWF and Vincent Kennedy McMahon's early successes but for those Hulkster marks that can't quite separate the man from the gimmick brother and believe he's hanging and banging with the big Hulkamaniac in the sky and not an arrogant s.o.b. bobbing up and down on Brother Bruti Bootyman's lap, yes, no, yes, no, yes, no, yes, no just look the differences between Hulkypoo and the man with two giant cheetos for fists....Hogie wants roomie servie so HIMS gotta work the main just before intermission do he and The Mariner can order hot cakes with strawberries and cool wwHHHHHip while working on the friendship the phuuckin Barber BUTCHERED while Cactus meanwhile is over here falling off rooves and eating kraft macadoodles and cheese at the fans house he's crashing at to save $35 bucks. Hogan failed to lace Aurelian Smith Jr's boots...or fold Aurelian Smith Jr's piiiissssssss stained sheets. God bless Jake Roberts.
Hulk did Saturday night's main event
Brutus The barber beefcake he been swinging off hogans testes forever
