Hi Kodi, Back from the Oregon Coast and got the Starcraft licensed. Will be doing some Crabbin and Salmon fishing in August out in the sound. They were hitting Coho real good off the mid Oregon Coast and they are heading north so that's good news. Hey I would like to see what you found on that 135 merc that just came in and your 50 merc too. You know me I love the Mercs👍 Tim
The tune is, When You're Hot You're Hot - Jerry Reed. Loved the Rifle. Glad this motor did not end up a junker like the last one. I am working on a 1976 Evinrude 55 HP that belonged to my father. Sadly it needs at least a new power pack (no power to the number one coil tested at the pack), and one of the coils (#2 literally and figuratively) replaced as it tested 0 ohms both on and off the motor. I have to save up for the parts (I am disabled and live on a fixed income) and can hopefully find some used ones that still have a bit of life in them. I figure Rome wasn't built in a day, The motor will be there when I can do it. Thank you for taking the time to share your talent and wit. Rock on bub!!

I have a 92 model 9.9.. lots of carbon build up on the piston.. do u think decarbing the piston and replacing the head gasket will raise compression,, in at abt 97 on the bottom cylinder and 100 on the top.. scoped the cylinders and they have some light rust, like the engine hasnt run in several years.. was thinking of filling the cylinders with diesel but not sure exactly where the piston has to be so the diesel doesnt leak out of the intake or exhaust..
Glad this one did not suffer the same horrible fate as the last one...
Hi Kodi, I have the same motor, mine won’t idle. Seems to pee water out the side pretty good. I thought it might need a carb clean. My mechanic said he think it’s needs a water pump. Can you tell me what you think
How do you adjust the tension on the tiller steering force to rotate the motor to the left or right?

What is the function of the thermostat on these small engines? What would be the symptoms of either being stuck open or closed?
do you run across alot of the 8 and 9.9 , 15 hp evinrudes with a cracked jet well in the carb? I bought an 8 hp, and a 9.9 and both of the plastic jet wells were cracked in the same place. the engine seems to ri run fine with the crack in the jet well, but I replaced them anyway.
Can you show us how to get the lower unit off? I take the bolts out, but it won’t come down.
What gap do you run on spark plugs 1984 Johnson 15 HP seahorse ?
On older 80's motors I like to open it just a bit more to .35 A old timer told me to do this as it gets a bit more burn & less likely to fowl. kb

I notice the manual says .040” or 1 .0 mm I thought this was excessive but I guess not !

I have 2005 Johnson 15 I replace the water pump and impeller cuz I wasn’t getting water stream. Still not, looking at the motor on right side of lower unit I get good stream from a small hole. Any idea what I can do.
Hi I have Johnson J10rgtsss is it 15hp? On the sticker it says 11,2kw but it is J10 model number. Any suggestions? And could you tell me how to adjust idle speed?
It should be the same as any other 9.9 / 15 powerhead, behind the aribox is a small screw that is part of the cam roller assembly attached to the carb, it takes a small allen wrench to turn it, Turn that screw clockwise to increase RPM's CCW to lower. kb

Where did you get your sparkplug tester
I got it when I bought a defunct outboard business, It is made by Merc-o-tronic. They R long out of business, CDI electronics has very similar ones tho. kb
I changed everything there is to change from the cooling side of things but I have the same issue still.. 200 degrees.. I don't even know what to do anymore..

I bought parts motor Johnson 56 RD -18 30 hp seized up for 60 bucks he said it pulled over but the spark plugs were also seized and I mean there was no threads left on the plug or the head and sand in the cylinder so much rust sat in a barn says it all worst I ever seen
