As a nurse who works in that kind of environment...please also wear gloves for your own safety when going into a place like this. I just can't believe that a hospital even if abandoned would be able to leave that kind of medical waste laying around. 😱

I was thinking the same thing! Very irresponsible of the hospital (assuming they had an appropriate amount of time to shut down). I’m surprised the CDC or other organization hasn’t taken more precautions and secured the building better.

In the bio-hazard pathology vault at 3:44 you can read a doctor's name after analyzing the paper note taped to the table by using video imaging software. The doctor is a pathologist who analyzes microscopic tissue samples. The doctor's name is not printed here, but he has a Rhode Island address and phone found on the Internet. The metal rolling "bed" there is probably not a bed but table used in the morgue. Bio-hazard is dangerous. Josh and others should be more careful and cover themselves with better protection when going to some of these places.

There are reasons why they have to wear a mask that have nothing to do with radiation.. That mold that they saw in the beginning of the video can be toxic when spores are inhaled and if there is a lot of dust/debris in the air that can also be extremely bad for your lungs and make it very hard to breathe
Masks can stop radioactive particles, but not radiation itself. Very unlikely there was any radioactive materials in the building.

It is illegal, that's why there are incinerators in hospitals and available to destroy hazardous materials.

For being a health care facility and one that deals in oncology I'm shocked they left vials and biohazard laying around like that. Its extremely dangerous and unprofessional...and well lazy in my opinion. I've never worked in a hospital that's shut down, but you have employees on each floor and in each section that is responsible for packing up everything that needs to go and things that need to be put in the trash or the biohazard bin. When I see all of that laying our like that and think who could enter it is a bit scary. Children don't know to keep hands off of these things. I get so irritated with these kind of facilities that don't close correctly.
Every abandoned hospital is like that. They NEVER take anything out. Been in enough to know. Including medical records, personal identifying info of patients, financial records, HR records, needles, etc. Always left behind.

Andrew Delashaw my dad picks up medical waste for a living... he always comes home smelling like blood
The rooms with the "hazardous waste" and the "biohazard" items in it is what you call a Soiled Utility room. And the stuff that usually goes into those boxes have red bags that say "bio" on it that usually has stuff like bodily fluids, diapers, gauze pads, urinals, etc in it. Also the Soiled utility is used to put regular trash in, soiled or dirty linen, the food trays, and the recycling for the used pressure cuffs. dirty IV pumps, used Teli and other equipment is put in there for sterile processing to pick up and clean. So when I see the words "biohazard" it doesn't have much meaning to me. Then there's a clean utility and clean storage where you get all the clean items from. Such as syringes, meds, clean linen etc. I work at a hospital and know my way around the whole hospital and am required to know how things work for my job.
It would probably be a good idea that you guys should wear biohazard suits, and gloves with your masks. Just to be safe you know ?

I thought there were biohazards or maybe radiation, but I guess not but at the same time you never know. It's not really any problem to me that they do not wear hazard suits. I just don't want them to accidentally touch something or breathe in something that could make them sick. Because i'm a person who cares.

The room you said was probably a freezer where they kept chemicals was very likely the morgue although a rather small one. The walls were steel as well as the bed. Easy to sanitize and the dead don't care about cold steel.

josh...every hospital with have biohazard signs posted everywhere! this is because specimen, blood, body fluids are day to day life when treating patients. this doesn't necessarily mean it's dangerous! it's a precaution to those who visit,work or stay in the hospital. that being said don't touch anything that is in a red bag or box! :)

Biohazard aren't necessarily deadly, 9/10 it's something like a peed on a bed sheet or something a patient used. Sure it's not "safe" but it isn't life threatening. Love the vids, keep em' up.

I work in a hospital laboratory and constantly look around the lab and wonder what the place will look like when it is abandoned (if it ever becomes abandoned). Keep up the great work!

Wow, so many things that never should be left at a hospital! The radioactive sign was probably in reference to storage of the radioactive solutions used to assist in certain x-rays. I had to take it once, makes your entire body feel warm!

i have an abandoned hospital near me in MA, used to be the hospital before norwood was built, been in there 3 times and explored the whole thing, on a hot summer day i was in the morgue inthe basement and all of the sudden it got cold and i could see my breathe, awesome video man!

If I'm not mistaken, at 10:09 those glass tubes are called pipettes. They are kind of like a straw, you can use them to slowly suck certain chemicals into the tube then drop them into other bigger tubes to make formulas. We used them back in chem lab in high school. Of course that was 30+ years ago, so I may be off base in their use today.

My aunt worked at a hospital in Iowa and if they had no identification or had a contagious disease they had to cremate them there

And almost every hospital I know send the unidentified to a mortuary, where they are cremated due to cost, and buried in paupers graves, sometimes with three or four other people. Your aunt worked at a rare hospital. But I'm positive that is a gas sterilization unit.
