  • ska.org Dec 1, 2007 Year-end Practice at Shotokan Ohshima Dojo in Santa Barbara, California. Ohshima Sensei demonstrates gyaku-zuki and encourages black belts to practice gyaku-zuki all together with hips. Mind leads breathing. Breathing leads body. So it's one. The ideal level of practice which black belts are looking for is that this whole mind, mainly the subconscious mind, with this 'steam' called 'ki' or 'chi', and the body become one. This is your strongest energy coming out. OK? That's all connected with your basics. Basics by itself, your physical movement, your mechanical movement by itself does not exist. How you feel is what connects your mind and body.

Five years? Is there somewhere a pedagogy/teaching problem ? I'm ok we can not achieve good improvement in 3 days, specially in martial arts, but if it takes too long, we have to ask if the teacher has the good methods (and not always blame the student)

If they need to be told to use their hips and turn properly after so many years, then their instructors are not doing a good job in teaching them how to punch. This is something you learn in boxing/ Muay Thai in the first couple lessons.

they are learning from a master, the right technique and application... to learn is also to train, your mind and your body comes next - and yes they train regularly, I'm sure your expertise and personal training excel in quality on pressing keys and trolling videos you do not understand

Good thing about this is you'll get a better workout in SKA than any other organization outside of these seminars. But after you've done that, you need to listen to that "old man" so that he could impart some of his wisdom upon you and correct some of that per-conceived bullshit you've got stored up in you from years of backward thinking ...or not... your decision .
