    So far, this has worked well on my spider mites on English Ivy, and my white flies on roses, and on whatever was eating my bush beans. If you store your sprayer in a cold place in winter, make sure you clean out the hose as well as you can while it is still warm out. If this mixture freezes in your sprayer-hose it will cause it to tear. I know, because I did that this past winter.

    Thanks for sharing your video. My Marigold leaves are dying and the plant becomes very brittle it doesn't take much effort to break them off. My qiestion is, doesn't the oil fry the leaves in the sun? can you do just the soap and baking soda?

    Nice video,
    I have a few questions. Could I use organic coconut oil instead of hydrogenated vegetable oil? Also should I use a baking soda that's pure(Arm and hammer has aluminum) or is the aluminum necessary?

    @PatriciaSdeLopez Yes maybe so. The leaves coated in the oil is being magnified in the sun through the oil. Suburn times 3.

      I go by how much rain we have. The Oil makes the leaves shiny, and when they lose the shine, I spray again. It rains often where I am, and takes about 2-3 weeks to wash off the oil-shine.

    Meant to add - don't compost mildewed plants or parts, toss all into trash, along with the gloves. Mildew spores spread easily - on the wind. Watering plants early in the day allows them to dry by nightfall, so helps avoid mildew.After days of rain, spray susceptible plants as a preventative, once the weather dries,- before the mold develops. Some plants are more likely to get mildew - like roses, lilacs, etc, so anticipate it & spray those after rainy spells with cool nights.

      I did not have good results in fact a bit upsetting actually as I noticed the next day after spraying the organic solution on my garden some leaves had brown and black spots on them or the edges of the leaves and flowers dried and curled with black edges. The next day leaves were yellowing so I am hoping this isn't going to kill my garden altogether as I am not sure why this happened. Although it seemed to help with the insect problem also is negatively affecting the plants.

    • @REALYROSEY
      @REALYROSEY Před 8 lety

      You need to apply this either in the evening after the sun is down or early in the morning before it is up, so it dries before the sun has as chance to cook it. Otherwise, yes you will damage your plants. That goes for just about any spray.

    spraying plants for mold/fungus in the late afternoon is totally acceptable, after all, your spraying an anti fungicide on them and altering the ph on the surface of the plant . It's one case where it should cause no harm. watering in the evening-bad ...spraying fungicide- ok

    consumer stores do not stock gmo seeds, nor sell them to the general consumer.
    gmo seeds are sold to large farm operations. ...suppliers don't want backyard gardeners growing gmo crops anyway.

    Phosphate and ammonia are *not* bad for plants. They are fertilizers - nutrients which plants use. If you have a natural fertilizer (e.g. manure), this will contain both ammonia and phosphate!
    Also, it was ironic how you're worried about using an "organic" dish soap, but then you're using a crappy vegetable oil which was extracted with petroleum distillates! (not a big deal for spraying on plants, but for cooking/eating you're better with a cold pressed oil...just saying....)

    Unfortunately the vegetable oil that is being used in this treatment is a genetically modified product...or GMO which most organic gardeners prefer to stay away from. I would instead suggest researching neem oil and preparations made with that instead of vegetable oil. The neem oil will actually increase health benefits as opposed to the health risks associated with GMO products. You wouldn't consume this kind of vegetable oil yourself so why feed it to your plans.

    • @jinazarifis7867
      @jinazarifis7867 Před 8 lety +2

      I don't know about you (yes I do) but I don't give liars and people who feed off fear money. "The World Health Organization, the American Medical Association, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science have all declared that there’s no good evidence GMOs are unsafe. Hundreds of studies back up that conclusion. But many of us don’t trust these assurances. We’re drawn to skeptics who say that there’s more to the story, that some studies have found risks associated with GMOs, and that Monsanto is covering it up.I’ve spent much of the past year digging into the evidence. Here’s what I’ve learned. First, it’s true that the issue is complicated. But the deeper you dig, the more fraud you find in the case against GMOs. It’s full of errors, fallacies, misconceptions, misrepresentations, and lies. The people who tell you that Monsanto is hiding the truth are themselves hiding evidence that their own allegations about GMOs are false. They’re counting on you to feel overwhelmed by the science and to accept, as a gut presumption, their message of distrust." (William Saletan)

      Jinaz thank you for being a voice of reason. GMOs as far as I can tell are neither good nor bad, it varies from one to another. There are some GMO plants intended to produce pesticides, I would put them on the bad list. There are others that are more resistant to frost or disease, as long as they don't produce poisons that can harm us or our bees I don't have a problem with them.
      I do have a problem with the legal side of things when the profit driven corporation dictates what I can grow and how I can grow it. The big problem with GMO is the politics around it.
