Grocery Shopping in Portugal is So Interesting! Great Prices, Quality, and Variety. So Much Fun!!!

- Randy and I are spent a month in Portugal. We stayed in hotels, hostels, apartments, and a royal villa. Some we could cook in and some we couldn't, but we got a bag full of goodies to take on our adventure. We also got a leaky, collapsible ice chest for perishables. Portugal is the most abundant country I have ever been to and that includes Italy. We were there in September and all around were trees full of apples, citrus, pears, vines of grapes and kiwis, gardens of cabbages and tomatoes. Almost everyone has some sort of garden who doesn't live in a city high rise. We didn't spend much time in the big cities. We love the countryside and small villages. Join us! ~ Trisha
On our visit back in Sept and October we made our first grocery store stop in the city of Tomar and we were amazed at the quality, variety, and most of all the prices! I went back out to the car to get my camera to record the store to send to our daughter and were told that recording in public (especially in stores) was frowned upon. We did however enjoy shopping because we got to try new things and felt like we were all but stealing the food! Our daughter will definitely get to see what we wanted to show her thanks to your video. We can’t wait to return in early March for our next step in our journey of relocating to this wonderful country! For now I am enjoying your journey.
LOL! We were obnoxious American I guess. No one ever said anything and basically, I gave them great free advertising on several occasions. Too bad we didn't run into each other! We love Portugal and we actually spent a week looking at property. Then they changed the tax laws... still love it. ~ Trisha

My Mother-in-law, who lives in NJ likes the prices at Aldo, but I find the stores messy.
The grocery stores in Portugal were a pleasant surprise! My favs were Lidl and Pingo Doce but because I lived there I went to Intermarche for certain items too. The gas prices at Intermarche were always much better than the regular gas stations!
That Intermarche you were looked great! It’s good to see that the prices are still really great! I live in Canada, and even with the exchange of CAD To EUR those raspberries were less than half what we pay here most of the year… grocery prices have tripled this past year. Isn’t that coastline stunning!
They can be a bit messy but great prices and variety in a small store. The Portuguese Aldis are so much better than the US. I was also impressed with the Intermarche. Yes, the coastline is stunning. We are in California right now and frankly, it doesn't match Portugal. Thanks for watching. ~ Trisha
