  • Today At Firewater Farm Sawmill, We'll be talking about how roller guides is a must need maintenance after so many hours you put on any sawmill. We typically adjust our roller guides A-round 2 to 300 hours or anytime we change the oil for it. But if you don't do regular maintenance like you should then them roller guides will start making WAVY CUTS! And will heat the back of the flange, Causing smoking and a really bad smell in the air! Another way you can tell if the roller guides needs to be adjusted is listening. You'll start to hear a whale like call. Its A odd sound. But, Thats what it sounds like to us. And thats when we can typically tell. Its time to adjust the roller guides.
--So for any one that wants to start running a sawmill one day. just keep in mind, This is just one of many thing you need to do for the sawmill.

Excellent information, clearly presented, you get right to the point and give us all the details. Much appreciated

Good tip! The roller guides tend to be overlooked.

Yeah the roller guides are the most important part of your mill and the most over looked. We try to check ours every 200 hours thanks for watching

Yep, I like cooks blade alignment tool also. A dialed in mill is fun to run 👍

Yeah we have a blade alignment tool to check the roller guides we didn’t mention it in the video but it’s a must when checking the roller guides. Thanks for watching and the comment happy sawing

Your videos are great. We need more videos about cook mills here on the tube. I'm rather over loaded by all the videos from orange mill owners. Folks need to know there are better mills than the orange mill ones out there. Keep up the good work, and god bless you all

Thanks for the comment. We love the cooks sawmill. To us you can’t buy a better one. When people think of bandmills they tend to think orange. If you really compare the way cooks are built to those orange mills the orange ones look like a toy. This is the main reason we wanted to do a review to show people how good of mills the cooks are. Thanks for watching and I’ve always thought red looks better than orange anyway

If it's not the roller guides, the blade needs to be rolled flat. I run Baker equipment and check my roller guides often just to make sure everything is right. Good video!

The roller guides play such a big part in keeping the blade stable and are often over looked. Thanks for watching and the comment. Happy sawing to you

We used to have to replace the roller guides about every 6 months then we started using tranny fluid for blade lube about a year and a half ago and now they are still like new after all that time.
