    In this snowboard review video we are going to take a closer look at the 2016 Burton Custom Flying V, a playful all-mountain freestyle snowboard with Burtons proprietary Flying V hybrid rocker profile. This is a twin snowboard in between the contact points, but outside has a slightly longer nose so technically it has a directional shape. We tested it out at Breckenridge resort and had a great time on the slopes and in the terrain park. Even though we didn’t have the opportunity to test powder conditions, the directional nose and overall rocker profile are going to help float in powder. Overall this was a very versatile snowboard and could be a good choice for snowboarders of any skill level.

      I loved his riding because you could see he was was having a great time, and that’s by far the most important thing. In fact, it’s the only reason for doing it.

    I have the 2020 custom FV wide that I ride with est cartels and rulers. Currently the best setup I have ever ridden; just because I like to do a bit of everything and have to keep up with my skier mates out the park. Definitely dont have a stability issue on the landings with the 2020, but I've found it does grind down its effective edge fairly quickly if you plan on sending it hard.

  • @nozari28
    @nozari28 Před 7 lety +8

    I have to say something for the sake of newer/less confident riders out there :) I'm sure a confident intermediate or a "pro" can make a flying V work well, but if you are a beginner or maybe in between, still having some confidence issues that prevent to say you are a true intermediate - maybe look at other boards first.
    I tried a flying V recently and it was a miserable experience :( Hard to turn but lacks that edge and stability of a normal camber. I then tried a Flat to Rocker board and it felt much much better. Had stability, great edge grip and easy to turn.
    I asked people at a local board shop (which has a good rep) and they also dislike the flying V.
    I would advise to most people to try it before buying.

    • @patientestant
      @patientestant Před 7 lety +1

      Noz28 that's what I found too. when I was carving or doing a slight slip turn, if I put a little weight on the front foot, the entire rear edge slips in an uncontrolled/unpredictable way. if you get used to that and keep your weight even, i guess it would work okay. i wouldn't call it high performance though. rocker flat rocker is the best. good float in powder and predictable stable performance everywhere else.

    • @mrscrpco1279
      @mrscrpco1279 Před 6 lety +1

      Agree. I have nitro team gullwing which has similar profile. The board is fun to ride but when the snow is hard packed the turns at fast speed can be tricky due to moderate edge grip and bouncy response. It is great for pow though

    • @suf3117
      @suf3117 Před 6 lety +2

      Noz28 I’ve only been snowboarding like 3 times, 1 week every time. So I technically am considered a beginner but I bought a custom Flying V and it’s amazing for me. I was going down Swiss blues and reds literally in my second time ever snowboarding. Idk if the board helped me at all or if I’m just good because I’m naturally just good at sports and board sports. Carving was pretty good and I never really lost control of the board. Connecting quick turns was also pretty good.

    Hey guys,
    Denis from Montenegro here. I'm big fan and I'm following your work on every possible platform, and first of all I want to thank you for all the tutorials and tips you guy's have done. It's really helpful and useful.
    I'm planning to buy new snowboard/bindings/boots, so I was wondering if you could tell me if my planned setup is right for me. Maybe I overkill it.
    I am... Lets say intermediate rider, but I'm progressing really fast, and I ride about 20 days/year, so I really dont want to buy new board every year.
    Also, I'm 6ft 3 tall, 210 lbs
    I would like to ride All Mountain, but also to hit park sometimes (rarely). Maybe even some powder, tree ride... But mainly on piste.
    So, I was planning to buy:
    Burton Custom Flying V 162w
    Burton Cartel bindings
    Burton Moto Boa boots (I just love that Boa system)
    What do you think?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Greetings from Montenegro.
    Denis
    P.S. Sorry for bad English

    I like these reviews even though they don't really apply to me because I'm a woman. It would be awesome if you could get a woman to do some gear reviews like these but I understand that it probably won't happen.
    At least these reviews help me think about different aspects of boards to look into. I got an Arbor Poparazzi (144) this year (my first season) but I think I might want a board that will allow me to be a more aggressive rider at some point. I could already feel my board getting a little unsteady at speed. Not sure what profile to look into or size. I'm only 5' but 150 pounds. Most boards at my weight are as tall or taller than me. The 144 already comes up to my eyes. Any thoughts?

    im torn between something like the custom V or the clash. basically a beginner, not my first time on a board per say but my first actual board (first was an old school walmart board). i want to be able to ride but also want to be able to grow and progress as time goes on. moneys not the biggest factor as i can find a way to put in what i need to. i also have some lib techs on my mind but i think id prefer burton.

    i absolutely MUST ask. I cannot decide between this board and the twin version. and FlyV or camber. i think i prefer camber tho. im not much up to tricks yet and i will def NOT b doing any big jumps. Also i own a Burton Barracuda for offpist/powder runs. what would make me chose one over the other? was thinking i need a more all-mountain board apart from the powderone i have.

    I still trying to figure out if I buy the "Camber" or the "Flying V" version.
    I tried the flying V and is much easier for any trick that require switch but it does not give you much control high speed because it has less contact with the floor. It was harder to stop/break.
    The Camber gave me much more control for carving and break, its just a little bit harder to switch.
    I felt like camber was much easier for me, I'm a beginner/intermediate and I like to have more control.
    I don't understand why many people recommend to Beginners the "Flying V" version over the "Camber ". Any idea why?
