  • So I was making a new APCK+droneECS drone model, and using it against a big plane that ‪@borischung01‬ made, and he told me that I should try it against the Argebal since whiplash did that not too long ago. It is big, tough and full of guns.
    Challenge accepted.
    I placed it 10km away, to also try my hand at the improved navigation for the drones, which can now navigate vast distances like the missiles can.
    A couple of changes to ECS-Utils are needed from what was gleaned in this, but this is getting hopefully close to a release state.

    There's always a particular sensation I get in moments like this watching a ship getting rinsed. If the production value was a bit higher it would give me goosebumps.

      Yeah I know, I wanted to make this a proper cinematic however recording was a bit of a pain (since the carrier was absolutely tanking the sim speed) and there was a few times I needed to pull the HUD out and tweak things so decided to just go with what I had.

      @@mobiuscoreindustries I don't actually think that space engineers is capable of creating that experience that I'm thinking of. Real time simulated and animated and lit doesn't make for a good combo. I'm thinking about one of the cinematics for Halo wars when a figurative river of the forerunner sentinels cut through a ship by ramming it.
      czcams.com/video/hf7IblMmV2o/video.htmlsi=ffSp4T8WKiUi79V_ this one.
      I would also like to change my description of it being a river to it being a sheet, which is cooler.

      @@Rose_Harmonic I could do that though the issue is that by default damage done by SG collisions is pathetic. I could cheat using kinetic devastation.
      All drones come with a warhead for disposal but that can aslo be used to turn them into missiles.
      All I need really is to send the command override

    someday we will have games like this that are multiplayer and universe spanning, with no lag, i hope i live to see it

    You should try and build like a system that could defend against your own creations using minimal recourses. Something like small anti-missile missiles or smt.
    Like for instance realistically if this carrier would enter this area while knowing a drone system like this was around, it would have more defences that are able to counter it, still keep the PD for drones that are not intercepted. Essentially just more layers to the defences.

    • @mobiuscoreindustries
      @mobiuscoreindustries  Před měsícem +1

      @indigenous.rabbit2877 I did that already did weapons of the sort. Though nowadays unless you have weaponcore targetting it's very iffy to defend against more than one weapon, but any form of guided weapons can feasibly work in an intercept role.
      Yes in truth the carrier would not have been static in a real encounter. It's defenses were actually quite good at dispatching the drones and missiles, it just eventually got saturated. Just like with missile intercept, the issue is and always be targetting. The range is limited and the capabilities of engagement for multiple targets is always a question of mostly luck in vanilla.

    Did that intentionally align itself towards the ship at 3:46? If so, really cool! That's spectacular.

      @@koneeche unfortunately no the spin was an out of control thing.
      Missiles and drones with just one axis of thrust fly around atmospheres like helicopters. This is done to be as fuel efficient as possible, granting them ranges far in excess of what the full thrust drones can acheive even with lower fuel reserves.
      Of course for drones in atmosphere a full thruster layout is required to fight stuff that is close to the ground

      @@mobiuscoreindustries Ah I see. It looked almost intentional. Still really nice!

    • @mobiuscoreindustries
      @mobiuscoreindustries  Před 27 dny

      @@koneeche Its slightly intentional in the sense that their trajectory and design failsafes are made to help enable detonation even if they are destroyed, depending on the circumstances.
      For one on planets their approach trajectory at long distance means they have a good chance of hitting or at least falling close to their targets if they are destroyed. They airburst so they don't need to make contact, just get close enough, and since the hydrogen is part of the 2 step detonation if enemy bullets cause only one of the tanks to rupture, or they end up landing next to where another missile crashed, it will cause the nuke to go off
      needless to say it does make them somewhat of an occupational hazard so I would not recomend hanging onto them in the formation for too long when traveling
