Do you have a secret of add hard solder on Baguettes or princess cut diamonds when they are tight set. I am a goldsmith for many years, Still feel uncomfortable when applying high heat on those diamonds. Especially when they were set so close, touch each others, because , the heat will expand, and got diamonds chipped easily ? I had just no clue which diamond or diamonds will chipped. Because heat have no where to escape, but put impact on each other. I even use just (Easy solder) and wait for the ring cool down before pickling. I find hard to predict that problem will happened. Look like you are very good on doing that👏👍. But do keep in mind., or ask other goldsmiths, are those bad situations I mentioned ever happened to them.. Like to know what they reply.. May be some use laser soldering.? /

I really appreciate the question and I especially love being able to share secrets and tips and really all I do is go with a hot flame as quickly as possible and I don’t run the solder until it completely melts. I just get it to run just a little bit to build that edge up and then I do the extra work with hand engravers to remove metal so that way nothing messes up on the baguettes this particular baguette ring, though have nearly perfect diamonds VS quality but the ones that are a little bit more rocky i’m not sure if you have access to a laser machine, but if I had access to a decent one that I can adjust the power settings to I would’ve been doing it on a laser machine and if you do, I suggest apply Vaseline to the diamonds first and then on a very low power setting stick your laser wire in there and just barely tap it and that should be enough metal to hold the diamond in. but I did use easy solder I believe on this ring and specifically it was 10 karat easy solder.

some cases happened to me and my goldsmith, also worked for over 25 yrs,, I been working as a goldsmith for 45 yrs,, still worry about repairs on the tight set baguettes and princess cut diamonds. I only used Easy solders,, just enough for the solders started to melt and contact where needs, then stopped, I examined it and they all looked good, I didn't think were over heat the items,, Sometimes I even touched the items with fingers just after few seconds , then Waited for items cool down for pickling , after picking, then Noticed problems, usually found one or two, not the one soldered, neighbour ones chipped or cracked. It still a mystery for me, 😒I haven't try Laser soldering yet. few goldsmith buddies did try, one told me, Laser soldering on those, results still not 100%. Good. But that was few yrs ago. New machines and more experienced laser guys should be ok. Thanks, keep up your good work. 👍👏
