It's true - the Joe Burrow era could well be the best time in the entire lifetime of a Bengals fan. Like the Peyton Manning era was the best time in the lifetime of a Colts fan. Quarterbacks like that don't come along very often. The Packers were very lucky to get two of them in a row. The Colts almost got Luck-y too but Andrew Luck's career was cut short by injuries. Look at how the Dolphins keep trying to find their next Marino, and he didn't even win a Super Bowl. You have to treasure these moments when they happen LOL.
He seems like a fine man. The coach too. I remember when someone mentioning the Bengals made me think of Vontaze Burfict.
Love joe and I know we're better with him I just hope all this money don't hurt us down the road keeping a winning team around joe
Almost invariably it will. All else being equal, the more you pay one player the less you can spend on talent elsewhere. But there's no getting around it. Every team with an elite quarterback has to pay him eventually - if the Bengals don't pay Burrow, he'll go to another team that will. It already seems to be hurting the Chiefs whose quarterback has gotten more expensive. They lose to the Lions at home now despite having the consensus best quarterback on Earth. Yes, they just won the Super Bowl despite having to shed talent but there's only so long you can beat those odds. The road gets harder when your quarterback gets paid.
There's a lot more going on here than you guys understand. He isn't paid in full up front. Many more millions the team has left for players and the better the team the more sales in tickets, food and shirts etc.

@shac9131 plus the salary cap goes up seemingly every year and 20 plus million more goes a long way when only have to fill a spot or 2 !! STRUCTURE IN THE DEAL IS HUGE , IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE THE HIGHEST AAV !!! Larger signing bonus usually means lower cap hit too !! With a lot of money backloaded for Joe they should be able to frontload deals for Tee , Chase or whoever is in the future plans !! While it will obviously be harder in future years , they can be setup completely by then so to speak !!
I went to OU Athens. Would never have imagined a high school kid there could reach a level even close to what Joe has done. Hope he wears the stripes for his entire career. He sort of reminds me of a young Johnny Bench.

Joe didn't hate it! No one can fault him for taking the bag, but if he wanted the Bengals to keep Higgins et al. he could have agreed to take less. The effects shouldn't be felt in 2023 since Joe's cap hit is still a relatively low $11,515,043 per Spotrac while he plays out his rookie contract. But the Bengals have to account for Joe's future cap hit when negotiating long-term deals with other players. To pay for Joe they're going to have to find cheaper replacements in the draft for some of their other marquee players. Fortunately that's relatively easier to do. Every draft seems to have quality receivers but you don't find quarterbacks like Burrow very often. The Bengals have never had one in their entire history before him although they've had some good quarterbacks, just never one you expect to see in the Hall of Fame someday.
