It's worth noting in the books Harry destroys a bunch of Dumbledore's stuff in his office after losing Sirius, and Dumbledore just allows him to do it in order for him to let out his anger and grief. Harry believes Sirius would have chosen to come back as a ghost, so he runs to find Sir Headless Nick with a glint of hope, only for Nick to tell him that's not what Sirius would have done, nor is it a choice anyone should make. Just adds to the grief Harry's experiencing and also shines a little light on the fact that Nick and most of the other ghosts regret their decision to not move on. Sirius got the chance to be reunited with his friends though, so it's very bitter sweet.

I don't remember if it was in the movie or not but in his house, when Sirius wants to include Harry in the Order's meetings and plans etc., Mrs. Wesley scolds him and says that sometimes Sirius forgets that Harry is not James. I mean, if this isn't your thing then quit doing this for a living.

  • @Density13
    @Density13 Před rokem +71

In the books, Cho isn't the one to "betray" Dumbledore's Army, it was actually her friend Marietta Edgecombe whom Cho brought to the meeting where they all signed up. She told on them because her mother worked for the Ministry and was worried her affiliation with D.A (Dumbledore's Army) would cost her mom her job. They had to change it in the movie to save on time.
Also, Hermione is a bit more mischievous/evil in the book, she secretly puts a hex on the parchment that everyone signed so that if anyone told on the group, painful spots (maybe pimples) would grow and spell out the word "SNEAK". The hex was so powerful that Umbridge and Madam Pomfrey weren't able to remove it. I believe the book said that the spots never fully went away, because of that, many fans of the books have debated whether Hermione went too far with the hex.
Another neat fact, when Harry used the Cruciatus Curse he ended up failing because in order for the Curse to be used, the caster must have the most severe malicious intent for the victim and must WANT to cause pain. Harry wanted to use the spell with a more "righteous" form of anger so it ultimately failed.

    • @Verasoul
      @Verasoul Před rokem +7

Also, while that contributed to Harry and Cho's relationship failing, it was already rocky due to Cho using Harry as an emotional crutch for dealing with Cedric's death. She kept asking him questions about him and due to Harry's anger from his connection with Voldemort, he snapped at Cho and they basically didn't speak to each other until the end on the train and platonically made up.

In the books, the Dementors attack was a major character change for Dudley. Though a Dementor attack typically forced a person to re-live the worst moments of their life, Dudley's life-so-far of luxury and greed contained no "worst moments," and therefore, during the attack, Dudley saw himself the way he truly was: a spoiled, rotten and cruel bully. He was forced, rather harshly, to realise he needed to change his ways. This led to him regretting his treatment of Harry, and from then on, became the only Dursley family member to treat Harry with kindness. When Harry was in his room after yet another fight with his uncle and aunt, Dudley put a cup of tea in his door, and when Harry opened the door, he stepped on it by accident, and thought it was another prank by Dudley, but it was a genuine act of kindness from Dudley.

    • @SelvesteSand
      @SelvesteSand Před 9 měsíci +5

I don't think he had no "worst moments", his worst moments were just not about bad things happening to him but rather about him doing bad things to others. If he had been a sociopath or something like that, the dementors wouldn't have anything on him, but because he's actually just a normal human person (who has been spoilt rotten by his parents), he has a natural desire to be a good person, and therefore has had to lie to himself, suppress his feelings of conscience, and avoid facing the truth about his behaviour in order to feel at least bearably comfortable behaving the only way he has been taught how to. In other words, he always knew deep inside that he was a cruel bully, and he was always conflicted about it, but he didn't know how to be anything else, so he was suppressing his conflict in order to cope. Since this conflict is the only hardship he's had in life, the dementors forced him to dwell on it and face it, which was unbearable and made it impossible for him to continue suppressing it.

@@Verasoul no no you clearly haven't read or don't remember the books clearly..
      Potential Spoilers!
Snape wasn't bitter and bad himself because of the marauders bullying, he was "from the very beginning" even much before Hogwarts prune to the dark arts and acts -yes his childhood had been ugly because of the conflicts between his parents if you remember, and that might've had a great deal with him being unmonitored by an adult, and made him an easy target to turn for bad stuff - but again we can't say anything about that, because Harry had the ugliest childhood possible, and grew up to be a decent respectful kid even before Hogwarts too..
So you can't put everything on Snape's upbringing "it's a huuuuge factor yes but not all the reason"
And you can't possibly blame it all on the marauders, because without their bullying he was already corrupted...
Do you by any means remember what happened between Lilly and him in detail?
If you do then you know what grew them apart..
He -although yes very prune to the dark - had a chance and that was Lilly but he chose his "future death eaters" friends and the dark side over her..
If you remember correctly, their last conversations when she made him chose and he still chose that..
He wanted both; the glory and strength his "crowd" brought, and Lilly too but it doesn't work that way..
She even agreed that James and his friends were vile and stupid but she literally said "they weren't evil Severus, what you do you and your friends is EVIL"
That let us know that though the marauders were arrogant bullies -which is absolutely vile I don't defend them completely - but he also and his friends used to hurt people "it was not cleared in what ways exactly but it was VERY clear from Lilly words that they did" and specially Muggleborns; she even said you bully and call all of them Mudbloods, and he said something like "but you're different" and she said something like "how Severus?!"
      She meant "what makes me any different?" ;
That it wasn't excusable to call every Muggleborn like that except her which is true..
And he even called HER that eventually.. 💔
He can never take those things back yes but he made up for it the best he could at the time he had.
I'm NOT hating on Snape you should understand that I'm simply stating facts that the story presented from the characters own words.

Then Snape had another chance, and this time at the crucial moment of life and death he took it, and actually had a real potential to fix some of his mistakes.
He ran to Dumbledore for help and turned on the death eaters and Voldemort finally for the sake of his great love for Lilly still..
though he NEVER really cared for James's nor Harry's safety much "and that also is much much clearer in the books than the movies; that he didn't really care what happened to them" he only wanted Lilly safe.. and when Dumbledore said you disgust me, he then relented and said alright save them all and I'll do anything, and you know the rest...
Even at the very end when he finally grew to care a little more about everything than he originally was, and actually had the best camaraderie I've ever seen on books with Dumbledore; they even established in Dumbledore's words that he was actually good inside; he had potential to be a different man, and was the bravest EVER even more than Dumbledore himself in my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️👌🏻
that Dumbledore himself said "I think we sort too soon at Hogwarts.."
I LOVE that line and Snape's shocked reaction to it ❤️😭
It was a great deal for him to hear such words from Dumbledore...
He still despite all that at the end when Dumbledore said "it's very touching did you start to actually really care for the boy?"
He replied in the books clearly: "HIM?!" "Expecto partonum" to reveal to us that he still never cared for anything but Lilly to the very end...
Which was again, according to Dumbledore the strongest potential for him to eventually turn really good and alter his ways "shal I not reveal the best of you Severus?" You remember of course..
Dumbledore ALWAYS believed in the ABSOLUTE and utterly great power of love, and Snape's great love for Lilly at the end changed him even for a little, and gave him the courage and great bravery to deceive Voldemort to the very end.
I absolutely LOVE Snape he's the most complex and interesting character.. very very brave indeed, and deserves the acknowledgement Harry gave him by naming his kid after him, and the utter respect by combining him with Dumbledore ❤️

Both the Ministry and Umbridge did not prepare the students on the threat. If it were not for Harry starting the secret tutoring, the casualties at the final Battle would likely have been higher. They both wanted to pretend that everything was fine when it wasn't. The item that Umbridge forced Harry and the other students to use was called a Blood Quill; when writing with it, it uses your own blood as ink. Therefore, you’re left with the scars on your hand. Imelda Staunton does a fabulous job making her character despised more than Voldemort. You should check her out in Nanny McPhee with Emma Thompson (Trelawney), Maleficent 1-2, and Paddington. My favorite scene is when Harry battles Voldemort for control of his mind and body. The scene is not only tearful but impactful for it’s in this very moment that Harry realizes that even though he may share similarities to Voldemort and horrible memories of bad things happening to him, he still has the good memories of family, friends, and love. That’s why no matter what Voldemort will lose for he will never know the concept of family, friendship, or love.

The "little guy" who did a quiet "Yes!" during the fireworks scene is Flitwick, the Charms teacher. In the first two movies his appearance was completely different, because in the third movie, the creators decided to remove his character and introduce the school choir conductor, played by the same actor (Warwick Davies), but he liked the new image so much that he suggested uniting both characters into one, and they did. Also, in the book, fireworks were flying around the school all day (it was a regular day, without exams), and other teachers did absolutely nothing to help Umbridge get rid of them, while Flitwick summed it all up: "I could have removed them by myself, but I'm not sure if I have a right to do so"

Alfonso Cuaron, the director of third movie deleted Flitwick and credited the music teacher just as "Wizard", but it was Mike Newell, the director of fourth movie who gave Flitwick's name to the music teacher previously created by Cuaron, so Flitwick appears in all the movies (except Deathly Hallows Part 1) with two different appearances. In Movie version they show Dumbledore very less powerful. Here is the book version in short. Please read it
“But Master - he is here - he is below -”
Voldemort paid no attention. AVADA KEDAVRA!”
Harry had not even opened his mouth to resist. His mind was
blank, his wand pointing uselessly at the floor.
But the headless golden statue of the wizard in the fountain had
sprung alive, leaping from its plinth, and landed on the floor with a
crash between Harry and Voldemort. The spell merely glanced off its
chest as the statue flung out its arms, protecting Harry.
“What - ?” said Voldemort, staring around. And then he
    breathed, “Dumbledore!”
Voldemort raised his wand and sent another jet of green light at
    Dumbledore, who turned and was gone in a whirling of his cloak;
next second he had reappeared behind Voldemort and waved his
wand toward the remnants of the fountain; the other statues sprang to
life too. The statue of the witch ran at Bellatrix, who screamed and
sent spells streaming uselessly off its chest, before it dived at her, pin-
ning her to the floor. Meanwhile, the goblin and the house-elf scuttled
toward the fireplaces set along the wall, and the one-armed centaur
galloped at Voldemort, who vanished and reappeared beside the pool.
The headless statue thrust Harry backward, away from the fight, as
Dumbledore advanced on Voldemort and the golden centaur can-
    tered around them both.
“You do not seek to kill me, Dumbledore?” called Voldemort, his
scarlet eyes narrowed over the top of the shield. “Above such brutality,
    are you?”
“We both know that there are other ways of destroying a man,
Tom,” Dumbledore said calmly, continuing to walk toward Volde-
mort as though he had not a fear in the world, as though nothing had
happened to interrupt his stroll up the hall. “Merely taking your life
would not satisfy me, I admit -”
“There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!” snarled
    Voldemort.
    “You are quite wrong,”
    “Indeed, your failure to un-
derstand that there are things much worse than death has always been
    your greatest weakness -”
Dumbledore never failed down in book version. Voldemort was nervous entirely while face Dumbledore. Voldemort go inside Harry coz he failed to face Dumbledore.

Another great reaction by you! ❤️ I really love rewatching my favourite series with you 😍❤️
People thankfully have explained everything well 👌🏻
The only thing I just wanna say is that the scene from Snape's memories goes much deeper than that; what you need to know at this point in the movies is that they made James waaay worse than he was, and the memories didn't show both sides so well; as you see it took Snape's side a bit too much.
That was what Harry saw so of course it was just from Snape's pov, and actually he was so sad and disturbed by what his father did that in the books; he actually went and communicated with Lupin and Sirius to ask them about it and Lupin exact words were "your dad was not a bad man, we all were young and foolish and we grew out of it eventually. Do not hate your father"
So while there's of course NO EXCUSE for bullying but Snape wasn't very nice himself; actually he was downright turning evil bit by bit at that point (and it had nothing to do with the bullying) he was into the dark side right from the beginning, so just don't hate on James and the rest of the marauders too much because "one of" the main reasons they were bullying him -though inexcusable - was because he was cruel, mean to other kids himself specially Muggleborns (Calling them mudbloods and stuff) and into the dark arts even at that age.
So keep in mind they were young fools, bullies and a little bit too arrogant yes "as the popular kids" and all but they WERE NOT evil.

Ames, you are right on with your thinking about Snape. You quite perfectly voiced what everyone was thinking, what side is he on? And we're kept guessing right until the final installment! Can't wait to hear your prediction 😉

Loved your reaction to my favorite HP movie. In my opinion, this one has the best villain besides Voldemort. Umbridge is terrifying. I hated her in the books so much. The actress who plays her is phenomenal. Of course, Sirius Blacks death is tragic. Belatrix Lestrange is also very crazy and Helena Bonham Carter plays her so well. Can’t wait for the next reaction. So much darkness lies ahead.

Ya, no kidding about the actress who played Umbridge. She not only made me hate her like I did in the book, but she was so believable, as if she was a real person. Phenomenal performance.

I like the insinuation that if you can’t see something it doesn’t exist for you. It came up twice here and it’s just such a great thought. It really tickles me to think of a world where this would be true. I would think that everyone in the world might have to wear crazy thick platform shoes because every time you blink you would sink an infinitesimal amount into the floor so you would need the extra height.

In the book Harry mentions Dementors to Petillia. She tells Vernon to shut up (paraphrasing here, and it's more detailed).

The backstory for Filch, well,...he is a Squib, meaning someone born to the wizard parents but who has no ability to do magic (or at least a limited one), they often were treated horribly and encouraged to mingle in with the Muggles (and it's most likely that they are the source of the so called Muggleborns children born to ordinary parents who show the magic abilities, which means that some of them must have had a Squib among their ancestors and the wizard abilities resurface in them after many generations) and Filch can't do magic (another Squib was Mrs. Figg, in the books she is mentioned already far back as one of the neighbors of the Dursleys and Harry at times spend time in her house but she never revealed she knew of wizarding world until that fifth year of Hogwarts in Order of Phoenix), Squib living among wizards is a bit sad, they see all around them wizards doing magic while they can't. Filch is a bit bitter old man, maybe a bit jealous of students who can effortlessly do magic while he can't, he remains the caretaker and janitor in the school basically and maybe because of all that his grumpy old man who has a bit of a mean streak. Being a Squib is a bit of an embarassment or rather seen as such among wizards, or some of them.
"A Squib is someone who was born into a wizarding family but hasn't got any magic powers. Kind of the opposite of Muggle-born wizards, but Squibs are quite unusual."

Your reactions are AMAZING and i can't wait for more! 💖 The next movie is full of angst. Harry will fall a little into darkness because Draco, and his dynamic with Draco gets obsessive and darker. That blonde guy will has finally his development of character!✨

Another great reaction! I meant to tell you something about the prophecy but then you mentioned that you will read the books so I'm not telling anything. Dumbledore will explain it so much better than I could in the 6th volume :) (not in the movie though).
You might have noticed that when Sirius was killed and Harry screams in pain and horror, the movie went silent. That's because Dan's scream was simply too horrible and shocking.

The guy who plays Dudley has become QUITE the exceptional actor staring in a variety of low budget indie movies and has also appeared on and off Broadway. His name is Harry Melling. The first movies that come to mind are The Queens Gambit and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The latter of which has him in a short with Liam Neeson, and it's incredible!!

It's kind of hard to tell in the movies because of the reduced screen time of most of the Weasley family and the shameful reductions they made to Ron's character but in actuality all of the Weasleys are powerful magically. The oldest brother Bill is a cursebreaker for Gringot's, going into old tombs and such to retrieve treasures, you have to be strong for that. Second son Charlie is basically a dragon tamer. Percy is a prat but he's skilled enough to rise the ranks at the Ministry. Fred and George are not good academically but are very clever in their own way and very skilled at the things they actually care about learning. The movies really don't do them as much credit as they deserve, the whole family is quite talented.

Since your so interested in Filch, in the books, he's what is called a squib. A squib is someone who is born from magic parents but can't use magic themselves.
