- BBC Newshour asked me to explain the ongoing Huy Fong Foods Sriracha shortage, caused by poor jalapeño crop yields and drought in Mexico.

Given the current heat in Mexico, I have a feeling that the shortage is going to be rather long term, unless they pivot to other regions for growers...
The Spanish Girl has left Australia and the boy's beating on the door. I don't think it would be too long, but it might be good to try to organise something in Australia.

I had no idea you made that documentary. I’ve got to check it out. It’s been a year since my last bottle of Rooster Sauce and after having tried other brands due to the shortage I believe the original is still the best. Hopefully the shortage ends soon.
Congrats on another recent interview Griffin. I’m in the UK and great to see you on the BBC. Your documentary is such a great lesson for students on personal branding and how a ten year old doc can make you the go-to media person. The quality of the footage still looks incredible as well. @@GriffinHammond Point the makers in the general direction of Australia. We're likely to be going into drought as your rains start. Like US, Australia is a large country. Unlike US, we have a relatively warm climate.
Show someone some greenbacks, I'm sure a deal could be worked out. Perhaps with an Australian Vietnamese refugee, we have a few.

I tried Underwood Farms Sriracha I think it’s just as good or better!
Sriraja Panich from Thailand is an excellent substitute. It’s found in most Walmart stores across America.
It's not the same because the ingredients are different Pantainorasingh Chli, water, sugar,garlic Contains 2% or less of: Salt, modified corn starch,xanthan gum, acetic acid citric acid, monosodum glutamate, disodium 5 insinuate, disodium 5guanylate,preservative,potassium sorbets, coloring: Paprika.

My local Asian story has limited supply. Sometime they are out, but they do managed to get some in, surprisingly. The normal 28oz bottle is going for $10 each.

I just got two 20oz bottles from Amazon for $35. I hope they can figure out how to source other farms. I haven't personally seen a bottle on the shelf since June 2022.
Wow you went through all the trouble to get your studio lighting right for the interview but they only used your audio (in addition to all the clips from the doc!) I hope they at least paid for the usage rights on the video but I'm not sure how that works
I think the lighting things were for a different publication (CBS). This one sounds more like perhaps it was on radio
@NickzAndMikz is right. The lighting was for a CBS News interview conducted via Zoom. This one was a phone call for radio, BBC Newshour. So I actually ripped the audio and added my own visuals so I could share it with you here on CZcams.
Hah! I saw this coming when David Tran parted ways with his main producer in CA. Still have 2 17oz bottles left. I ain’t scared. Huy Fong will figure this out. The green top rooster is the Mr. Miyagi of condiments and I love it. Mahalo!
No the real reason is they changed growers and screwed over the farmer who grew there peppers for 20 years and now the farmer makes his own pepper sauce witch is way better..

It was actually 23 million and Underwood owed them 1.5 million back…….but yes, they fail to mention Huy Fong’s greed trying to find “cheaper” peppers. They screwed Underwood over and lost

In California neighbors of the plant filed court documents to shut them down a couple years ago. They complained of burning eyes, bad odors from exhausts at the factory. Why does a Viet Namese owner have a Thai name on the bottle?
Because that’s the name of the city in Thailand that David Tran took a boat (the Huy Fong) from to come to America.
Good then that I never had the "Rooster" brand one. I only ever had the "Flying Goose" brand one from Thailand, which is awesome.
I would try the Rooster one just to compare it, but until its available again, I'm happy with the flying goose.
They need to go back to the original growers!

Shots still hold up in 2023. I'll be referencing your fireworks vid for B mode tonight. ;) I remember reading a little while ago it was something more nefarious that was the cause of the shortage. Combined with nothing but troubles with that new factory, lawsuits from residents complaining about burning eyes and some sort of old school mafia price fixing? Might be time for a Sriracha part 2. Sky valley has only 5 ingredients. Ox brand has 9. Yellow bird has 7 Huy fongs had a huge paragratof sufates, preservatives and hypoglucansuckmyballsackolyde type shit in it. Both brands listed are way better than huy fong sky valley is my personal favorite. Huy fong is still delicious its everyone's first Sriracha. My supermarket is currently out of huy fong. If yours is too switch up the brand. Just stay away from lee kum kim 😂 the name alone sounds gross they make good marinades though. Also stay away from kimoman brand Sriracha. Its not as good
