- The Mortal Kombat games have never been one to shy away from controversy, but sometimes the games were just too extreme and had to be censored for one reason or another. In this video we’ll be looking at the various censorships that the series has endured during its time as one of the most violent and over the top fighting series in gaming. For this list we’ll be looking at the times blood and gore were cut or changed, and even environments had to be edited to get past the ESRB. The green blood
MK ladies being skimpy never gets old🥰
They sure aren't anymore lol
@@VoiceFGCthey sure were before lol
Mortal Kombat is the South Park of games: we still don't know how it gets away with it but we are glad it does!
Yeah about that
Or Drawn Together of games.
Because eventually somebody realized that adults are allowed to have fun too. Not everything needs to be PG-13
Add this video to the top 10 mortal kombat moments that were censored. Even they had to censor the word fatality
So stupid
I don't think the pit on the Genesis was because of censorship. I think it was because of limitations of the hardware. It was missing all kind of sounds all kind of extra details, but it still had the blood and the fatalities. So I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the pit was missing things because of limitations of the hardware
You can still do The Pit fatality in the Sega Genesis version, but you have to enter the ABACABB code at the code of honor screen at the beginning or you can enter the DULLARD code on the main menu screen.
Either way, you can activate the blood & gore as well as The Pit fatality.
It just won't work if the blood is off.
While I agree with you, I slightly disagree with some of the reasoning. I'm more willing to bet that it was missing sounds because the Genesis had a garbage sound chip. Possible that they could have still have added them in but made it sound worse
@@HoganLegDropSoup true, but that all relates to limitations of the hardware.
@@godsson7779 true. Thumbs up
5:08 come on man, for an 8-bit handheld system those sprites are incredible
Exactly this dude clearly wasn’t old enough to play it
And it is emulated and blown up to a big screen. Not fair at all.
SNES version of MK1 still had fatalities they were just really lame
Yeah they don’t ever do their research in these videos
@@wdavis911 I kind of assumed that as it said Mortal Kombat II when it showed game play of Mortal Kombat 1 (1992) on Game Boy.
@jeremyiverson9668 I'll take the Super Nintendo MK1 fatalities (excuse me, finishing bonuses) over the censored Sega Genesis finishers any day & while I grew up on the Super Nintendo version, I like the Sega Genesis version's uncensored fatalities better.
To put it in a simpler way...
Super Nintendo > Sega Genesis censored
Super Nintendo < Sega Genesis uncensored
Censorship can be a little pain in the a$$, no matter what kind of content, even Hollywood is having that kind of issue these days.
I don't think the Game Boy ports don;t count a censorship- I'm pretty sure that there wasn't any blood due to the GB's hardware limitations
So much time spent with MKI on the genesis.
A B A C A B B.
Still remember the blood code. Good times.
Cheers!
I refuse to betray my principles to meet the spineless demands of others. This is why we need dark, disturbing, even challenging content more than ever!
You can hear the spite in the narrators voice. He sounds like a pissed off fan for their game being gimped lol
good job about Times Mortal Kombat Was CENSORED from Top 10
Ok on the gameboy was playable when you didn't own an SNES or Sega it's called making it work
I’m surprise they didn’t bring up the designs of the ladies of MK9 and then going into MK10
0:21 how do you desecrate/confuse MKII with the ass MK1 port?
I would of thought there would be a lot more current examples
1:05 Everyone hated the Super Nintendo port of Mortal Kombat 1 (the 1995 original) but it's a guilty pleasure in my childhood.
At least Mortal Kombat II (The SNES port) is a lot better, it's even better than the Genesis version.
Ummm, The SNES version of MK1 ONLY took the blood out. The finishers were kept in.
The SNES version was really good
Tbh, Japan shouldn't be surprising, especially when it's been almost 30 years since a MK game got released in Japan. But I will say that Japan is more strict than Germany nowadays ever since Germany are now laid back with Games being viewed as Art
It’s almost all a breakdown of the censorship of the first ported games.
We played them back then, lad. It was what we had.
Seriously what is with those censorships?! this is so ridiculous!
I heard that the Mortal Kombat movie had R-rated violence on the edge of NC-17 and that they "had to be a bit careful". That makes you wonder, was the movie self-censored to not go over the edge or was the movie just as violent as intended?
Man i wonder what it be if mk never showed the gored
it would be Street Fighter basically
Mortal Kombat without blood and fatalities doesn't deserve to be called Mortal Kombat at all.
Screw you, watchmojo! The Super Nintendo version of the original Mortal Kombat was actually better than the Sega Genesis version, it may have lacked blood and some fatalities but the game play and graphics were a lot better!
The music was pretty good, too.
I grew up on the Super Nintendo version & I wouldn't play the Sega Genesis version till I was in my mid to late 20s.
I will say that the Super Nintendo version looks better with its sprite animations & more detailed backgrounds + I like the sounds & scarier sounding music better & also, you didn't have to upgrade to a different controller for a better experience, but you could if you wanted & it also has the full Shang Tsung defeat sequence (where all the souls come out of him), which is missing on the Sega Genesis version
Sega Genesis on the other hand had smoother controls compared to the laggy Super Nintendo controls & blood (if you enabled the code) as well as Arcade accurate (though more pixelated) character bio & ending artwork that the Super Nintendo version lacked, but it came highly recommended to upgrade to a 6 button controller from the standard 3 button controller for a better experience.
If you have a Sega CD & get the underrated Sega CD version, it's pretty much identical to the Sega Genesis version, except somewhat better sprite animations & Arcade accurate music, but most of it is swapped to different arenas (The Courtyard music at The Warrior Shrine & in Goro's Lair for example).
Watch the Mortal Kombat 1 episode of What's the Difference by Console Wars for a more in depth explanation between the 2 Sega console versions.

Never!!!!! Gakaaayeeeeetaaakayeeeeeee!!!
I’m going to bet the narrator wasn’t born when the game boy came out. Back then the game boy was life hahahaha
Idk that joker two guns finisher was pretty sweet
6:26 Thank God CZcams wasn’t around then!
Joker's MK vs DC fatality could've been so good
At least they gave it to Shang Tsung in MK9.
Yeah, but DC didn't want an M-rated game at the time, they specifically wanted to keep the game T-rated, so Midway had to make sure the amount of blood was less, the heroes didn't do "fatalities" and that the fatalities were not gory. This was by design otherwise there would've never been a Mortal Kombat VS DC.
Anything on the Game Gear is also on the Master System because it was nothing more than a ploy for Sega to artificially extend their first home console's lifespan.
Mk11 sexiness was toned down?
From that basic form??
Seriously???
😖😖😖😖🤯
Hold on... You can't say the F word??? Wow, CZcams.
So is he saying that watch Mojo will allow him to say fatality or CZcams won’t allow him to say fatality
youtube
It’s dumb either way
Interesting 🤔
At this point, it only matters of time before they decide to remove Rated M due to them constantly censoring every game despite that it's obviously not made for kids.
Just to see and MK outside west and see almost another video game
Only 10 ?!?
4:58 Why is reptiles blood red
Yo, SNES MK 1 had Fatalities. Just not bloody.
You forgot the one thing which is Mortal Kombat never came to Japan.
yeah it did
Finish him
Family friendly edition is very good for mentality! 😄👍🏻
@velinfransiscahuang7033 You're beautiful.
Could I have your number??
Yyyeeeeah no
@nestormelendez9005 If you're talking to me yeah myofb because literally nobody was talking to you
@@GHOSTWARRIOR60 yyyeeeeah no nobody is talking to you mate cope
Edit: comment deleted
Mortal Kombat should stay M rated. That’s why the DC crossover and the animated series failed.
No gmat no party
@spectrebull Ty are you okay? This narration was a bit somber
You say censorship? In iran we could play mk9 in gameclubs but we were banned to pick female characters and if the owner found out he would come to you and shut down the device
yeah well your country believes in holding women from doing anything men can do like vote or drive or even have a job
Why can't they say fatalities? Mortal kombat can't own the word. News stations and everyone else say it all the time
I assume it has to do with the algorithm & CZcams just being dumb in general about certain things
That’s super dumb 😒
PlayStation, was the best home version I think so anyway if you’re not playing at home in the 90s, the PlayStation version was the best
You must be a gen z
This dude sounds butthurt haha 😂
Huh Germany can start and cause vilonce but they cant have a video game with violence wow ok
