Kiss goes back to 1973. But it was their landmark KISS ALIVE album(1975) that was the catalyst to meteoric rise to fame! Engineered by none other than Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin etc.) Kiss Alive is a go to for a perspective on just how hungry these guys were to entertain at a very high level. At a KISS show you knew they were going to rock and give you the best show you'd ever see at that time. Check out that whole Kiss Alive album it's worth it!

I am a black American, and I started listening to kiss because of a cousin.!!
He always asked me to sit with him and watch them on Saturday night live.
We were 11 years old around 1973, and I hated Kiss.
Then I started looking at them because they were dress like clowns..!!!
Well, what do you do when you are not sleeping at midnight?
There were only about 2 channels in the 1970s.
Then, after listening to Kiss, I told my cousin. These clowns sounded good.
It's 2024, and when my neighbors started making noises.
I start playing Kiss all day long, well I can do that because I am retired 😂😂😂😂.
THEY WILL STOP MAKING NOISE. LITTLE DO THEY KNOW, I CAN
LISTEN TO KISS ALL DAY LONG EVERY DAY/ FACTS.

    Hi, Biz :)
This was the first KISS album so actually bough, back in 1977 with some money so got for my 12th birthday. I had heard a tiny bit of them on the radio in early 75, when I was 9, but I had no clue about the makeup. I think this is the closest to live you will get on any of their studio albums.
The thing about KISS is that they're at their best when they're raw. Studio tricks mess with their sound. There is some reverb and polish on this album but most of it sounds like the band.

Come off as an old school hip hop guy. Tone loc sampled a part of their song Christine 16 for funky Cold Media.
Guide: listen to these 6 albums. From start to finish.
    Kiss (74 self titled debut)
    Hotter than hell
    Dressed to kill
    Destroyer
    Rock and roll over
    Love gun.
Then put on kiss alive and kiss alive II. If you can listen to those, and not become a kiss fan, just stop listening to music.
Kiss is one of those bands that are very slept on. They get a lot of shit for their marketing, and because of their looks. People look at them and think that they're some kind of hardcore Gothic metal band. But in actuality there's so much more than that. They have such good range and have songs from rock, to metal, to country sounding, and even some rap rock. They dip their toes into just about everything.

Biz, I saw KISS live in concert. It was great! Guess who came out on stage before KISS? Bob Seger!!!
    Thank you for this one.

look at older Kiss concert posters. One year they open for Bob Seger, and the next year, it's Bob Seger and others opening for Kiss. Just goes to show how fast Kiss became a headliner

Thanks for coming back to them, Biz. Been a fan since the 70's when I was a kid. These guys rocked hard back then but then took a dip into the disco fad, which was a big mistake from a fan's perspective. Then the 80s were filled with drama with 2 of the original guys, drummer and lead guitarist, getting kicked out of the band. Replacements came in with varying success. They "unmasked" themselves for a little while until they realized we liked them better with their faces covered up.
They've been at it for a long time and have had a lot of great songs. But their real magic is their live shows. Here's a link to The Midnight Special back in 75 when the boys were still young and hungry. One of my personal favs from them, the song is called, Deuce. You have to watch them live. The last time I saw them live was in 2019 right before Covid and it was wild!!! I'll still go see them again if they come around. DEFINITELY! 🤘🤘

This is Gene Simmons "the demon" singing. Not Paul Stanley. Gene is well known for his long tongue and VERY long member. He dated Cher an Diana Ross back then.
