This song is really polarizing for KISS fans. Some hate it, some like it…some accept it as a part of KISSTORY. That’s where I fall….it’s a part of KISSTORY. All I knew was that I was 9 years old when this came out. It was my favorite band. That was all I cared about. New album, new music. Great reaction video….ROCK AND ROLL!!!

This was Kiss's foyer into disco. Gene absolutely hated the song, but you gotta roll with the times. It was one of their biggest songs.

When they first got together at the beginning of the 70s, they mostly just practiced in an old stingy loft for two years because they didn’t have a record deal and they couldn’t get many gigs because they didn’t have or do anything that made them stand out despite their talent.
One night they all went to Madison Square Garden to see Alice Cooper. After the show Ace Frehley (the one with silver on his face) approached Paul Stanley (the one with the star) and said what if we had four Alice Coopers, but each their own different look and distinct personality.

Well, since you asked, I thought I'd chime in. I was around when KISS came out. Back then, you wanted to stand out and be remembered when you started a band. They tried different ideas before they finally settled with those costumes, (star child, demon, space man, and cat). Other bands were doing the same thing, but most of them wasn't as outlandish. #KISSARMY

They formed in 1973 in New York City. They modeled their makeup after comic book characters. They wanted to be the band they never saw. That is a quote from the lead singer Paul Stanley.
Singer Paul is Starchild. Bassist Gene is a demon. Rhythm guitarist Ace is Space Ace. The drummer Peter is a cat. They are a rock band and have pyrotechnics and fire at their live shows.
This song is their only disco dance song. The record company wanted them to do it to widen their listening audience. ALL of the other songs are pure rock except for one ballad, Beth that the drummer sings along.
Paul is the rythem guitarist....ace is the lead guitarist.

Gene Simmons is kind of known for his tongue and his scary makeup. This was an unusual genre for Kiss. They're more hard rock/metal and this as - - actually, I'm not sure what this is, but it's awesome. I think Gene Simmons was trying to act extra defiant here. He really, from what I've heard, hates this song. But he's been out-voted by millions - - it became one of their biggest hits. Can't tell whether you enjoyed it or not, but, it's definitely worth it to check out Kiss' more traditional sound. They've had a bunch of huge hits in the hard rock category too.
I've seen Gene say in an interview that he does really hate this song but knows the crowd loves it so that's why they play it at every live show.
Boy George once said he hated Karma Chameleon. They played it once live and the crowd went mad so we ended up playing it at every live show even though I hated it. - Boy George.
So you never know what you're fans are going to like.

Yeah Gene acting all scary and flicking his tongue out doesn’t really match the type of song this is. I knew that the band didn’t really like the song much so I think Gene just wanted to try and make it still look like they were kinda tough guys even singing disco. You also have to remember that 90% of us had never even seen the video until years later cause there weren’t any videos in the 70’s. I always liked the song though. Probably how we all felt when VH started using a synthesizer on 1984 and Jump…
Worst KISS song ever, any of their songs are better than this one. This is a disco song, and I believe their record label made them do it. The people I knew in the KISS Army back in the 70's were mad when KISS did this song.
