  • “Every 2 years in consulting is equal to 6 years outside,” says Anirudh Tara, Director & Partner, BCG India, IIM Calcutta Alum. In Konversations Cafe Season 4, Anirudh Tara talks about being a consultant, and how a consulting career evolves. In this insightful video, Anirudh touches upon the big questions - why MBA and why consulting. If you want to know what it takes to stay at a firm like BCG and make it to the Managing Director and Partner, then you should watch this!
    Summary
What makes consulting so sexy? Why should you become a consultant? How does one become a consultant? What does a consultant actually do? Consult? If you want answers to these questions, check out this video featuring Anirudh Tara, Director & Partner at BCG.
Apart from all the glam about 5-star hotels, business class travel and schmoozing with CEOs, CFOs, CTOs, COOs, etc., why is consulting such a sexy career? Anirudh talks about why he chose a consulting career. He talks about studying an MBA after engineering because he wanted to make sure that he was not just a cog in the giant machine that is the IT industry. He wished to contribute in a more meaningful way.
From getting into IIM C to landing an internship at Merrill Lynch, to finally starting a consulting job at BCG, Anirudh discusses the evolution of his career. He talks about what sets a consultant’s work apart. He talks about the lifestyle of a consultant being just a facilitator, in order to help them keep a clear mind space to perform well and help the movers and shakers make the right decisions.
Finally, Anirudh talks about the difference between the duties of a consultant when he starts his career and then in the future. If a consulting career seems like your cup of tea, this is a must-watch for you.

    Key Takeaways
1.All of you guys who are going to go and do an MBA, just forget about sleep.
    2. Just the disproportionate amount of impact that you are able to create, people that you are able to influence and companies that you are able to move forward, makes consulting sexy.
    3. Consultants are allowed to live in luxury so that they can focus exclusively on the work they do.
    4. People who are leading very large companies think very differently.
    5. Every 2 years in consulting is equal to about 6 outside.

they don't do the technological part. see no matter how good a product is, if its not selling there wont be any profit. What consultants do, is that, they'd use all the tools they have (could be a team of data analysts) to find weakness in operation, marketing etc department.for example, to find out in which region at what season, demand of current product is more, so they could minimize inventory costs and mostly all companies take debt and then perform operations, so how much debt to equity ratio should be and how it could impact sale forecasts, as more debt could mean faster but unstable growth and more fsa terms
