      The Fast and the Furious is a 1955 movie from director Rodger Corman. And none of these remakes (including the Italian Job) can hold a candle to the originals. That because in this era of dead creativity all they can do is mine the past for their "Ideas" rather than come up with new concepts and story lines. Western culture is dead and running on yesterdays momentum.

      I saw it at the cinema when it came out in 1969: I would have been 10 years old at the time, and it was, believe it or not, the "B" feature to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", which we'd actually gone to see (Perhaps the idea behind this double-billing was that they both had "car" themes?). I had similar impressions about it, and the Mafia in their black suits really "creeped me out"...

    Just too cool, the legendary Miura in flame orange, Matt Munro’s epic song, and that dramatic St Bernards Pass Mafioso ambush... No film has come close to matching that famous intro in over 50 years.

    • @tarvisponsdebeaumont794
      @tarvisponsdebeaumont794 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I was there as an extra. It wasn't the St Bernard Pass, in reality. It is a road leading to a dam in the region of Piedmont, the same location of the film's ending.

      @@tarvisponsdebeaumont794 that’s really interesting, was the car that crashed a mock-up of a Miura? I’m also curious how movie production companies get the green light (pardon the pun) to mess up the countryside like that with smashed up vehicles. How did they go about clearing up the mess afterwards?

    • @tarvisponsdebeaumont794
      @tarvisponsdebeaumont794 Před 8 měsíci +1

      The crashed Miura (not the functional one, that was authentic) was a proper fiberglass body obtained by a company in Turin that made them. In Turin and surrounding area the production was allowed to do WHATEVER they wanted with full collaboration of local police and the Mayor. Gianni Agnelli, the owner of FIAT, was very enthusiastic of the film and at that time was basically the King of Turin (and one of the most important people in Italy) so nobody bat an eyelid because Gianni Agnelli was vouching for them. No production company could do anything like that anywhere else! @@Pulsonar

    • @tarvisponsdebeaumont794
      @tarvisponsdebeaumont794 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@Pulsonar No car really crashed. You can see the Miura into the tunnel and after a cut emerging on the excavator is the fiberglass body with some diesel burning underneath. The movie production company met with the FIAT owner when they were discussing using FIAT as a sponsor and they had the green light from Agnelli without having to pay a penny and without getting a penny in sponsorship (Agnelli never provided FIAT cars, he was an anglophile and wanted the film to be authentically British). The mess was cleared by us extras and local council workers and there was a barrage further on on the stream blocking bits and pieces. Also, in those times there was a very cavalier attitude to pollution.

    • @Pulsonar
      @Pulsonar Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@tarvisponsdebeaumont794 Many thanks for sharing your life experience. Good thing the movie was made a few years before that middle east oil crisis. I doubt if the Italian giant would have time and good will as they Italian auto industry was closing ranks and FIAT bought Ferrari and tightened their belts a bit at the time. Agnelli was indeed an Anglophile, not sure what he’d have done as a gesture of pride if the Queen awarded him an honorary Knighthood, swim the English Channel perhaps in Capt. Webb vintage costume 🙏🏽
