It’s crazy to me that they would even think to compare the literal HOLOCAUST to anything happening today. Deportation is NOT the same thing as literal genocide.
Exactly, it’s not like we’re killing 7 million+ people every 6 years, we’re deporting people who illegally came to our country.
It's like equating deportation to the Rwandan Genocide. Just ridiculous.
Well you are literally Hitler so...

Lol
Yeah you don't mess with the Anne Frank story. That is easily the quickest way to piss people off. She didnt die for people to change her story
kids in 2050: we are reading lord of the rings in class. its about two lesbian non-binary trans hobbits called anne frank and rosa parks going on a journey to protest the patriarchy. they gotta defeat the evil Trump Peterson from saying, being fat is unhealthy, and to clean your room.
Yer but people love the attention.
💯
She also didn't write her own story, but that's besides the point XD.
@@premiumfruits3528 I believe the word “story” here is supposed to be interchangeable with the word “life”. Meaning, she didn’t die for someone to rewrite the events of her life and what happened to her. I don’t think the OP was implying she wrote her own story…besides her diary, of course.
A movie following the story of Anne frank with her diary character Kitty as a real character Anne talks to would be such a cool movie. Imagine it's just the Anne Frank story, no modern twists in it, with a character following alongside her that only she sees. I think it would be a great way to show the imagination of a child trying to get through a difficult time, and having Kitty there to basically be like the audience, reacting to things in the story would be really interesting. Then Kitty would go on to tell the story of her dear friend, just like the diary actually does in real life. I think that has potential to be a really incredible movie, but instead we get this
i'm going to study film in September and can say this is how I would have made this story.
So basically role-swapped Jojo Rabbit?
@@NicoEdgy GASP YES
Exactly, I was thinking of this...I can also picture how the movie could end, Kitty hidding in her place, waits for Anna after was taken, she wonders if she is okay, is she hurt? How is her sister or the others? Slowly starts get covered in dust, she cries silently as even parts of her start to peal off (like how a book does after be in a dusty abandoned place for so long), her hair getting messy, her dress broken, starts to dear she will disappear, there for Anna will not come back at her, she won't write anymore in her pages and so her voice will be forever shut down...Kitty is in distress, but even then, keeps hopeful, she is still part of Anna after all and she was hopeful, even during those dark days...
Until finally, one day, someone returns to the place, the man looks tired and by chance, finds the diary, for Kitty, is a shock, she sees light again, her vision is blurry at first, but sees the man reading the diary, she recognizes him, she gasp, it's Anna's dad...she smiles hopefully, she looks throught the window, the war is over, she turns inocently but excited at the man, thought he can't see her, "So it's over! I can't wait to get out of here too!" Smiles at him more, "Where is Anna?" Looks around, "Isn't she with you?" Yet pauses, the man looks tired, reading the diary slowly, smiles a bit, but also looks do heartbroken, Kitty starts to feel fear again, "...where is Anna?" Then sees the man crying, cyring silently as holds the diary close to him, almost scared to lose it, Kitty soon realizes the horrible truth...she is in denial at first, but soon breaks down, that now she knows that Anna is definitly not coming back, saddly yet silently conforts the man, he can't see her, of course, but feels relieved yet still so sad to find a piece of one of his daugther, then Kitty sees by affar, Anna, wearing a bright dress, with her is her sister, mother and all who shared this secret place with her, they look...sad but are free, Kitty in tears only smiles saddly at them, the scene vanishes, then we see a little real life videos of Anna's book, people of all over the world reading it as Kitty ends the movie saying;
"I never saw Anna again, the cruel war took her life away...but her voice, even then, couldn't be silent, she was my friend, my best friend in the world...Anna Frank."
Sorry for my broken English...yet I am so sad how such great idea was treated so poorly...
@@rachelmariecaberapacheco7942 That's such a beautiful scene! If there were a real movie about this, I would want this scene to be in it!
Anne’s story was one about a child who went through the HOLOCAUST, there is honestly NOTHING happening in the first world current day that could even possibly compare to what Anne Frank went through and her heartbreaking story. Let the sweet girl rest in peace ❤️
Chinese concentration camps
Honestly. Why are we talking about oppression in first world western countries when places like in North Africa to this day are still being exploited because of European powers. It’s irritating because stories like this divert attention from ACTUAL oppression that dates back decades still going on now. But let’s focus on the illegal immigrants that are getting lawfully deported.
Only in North Korea probably. Thankfully not most of us.
Except for literal nazis gaining power in many first world countries right now. How can we prevent it from happening again if we don’t stop it before it’s get that bad again?
so war in Ukraine means nothing?
The worst part is how beautiful the animation is for such a bad movie idea
yeah, this could’ve been a really cool movie if it was written by someone else
Agreed! The first half of the trailer makes the show look like such a beautiful work of art, as well as a really impactful retelling of history, then the second half just throws it all away for the sake of ideology! What a waste of artistic talent! We could have had an amazing show on our hands, but it had to be made by wokists!
The animation is beautiful kinda made
me wanna watch it.
Ikr. But that's exactly why many people are going to watch it anyways. Even though it's terrible. Because of the beautiful aesthetics.
@@goddessofchaos2679 it reminds me of The Secret of NIMH. That movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
When people compare modern “oppression” to mass genocide and global suffering, it seems as if they are down-playing what happened to the actual people who suffered during those times. It’s a sad tjme to live in.
the only modern oppression we face today is liberalism/communism
I don't think they're downplaying what happened in the past, I think they genuinely believe that some people are that oppressed today and that it's that bad
There's no seems like. That's straight up what they're doing
@@goranorsolic1000 I agree. But it's just proof that we are so privileged today with no reason to suggest that we're that oppressed.
this could've been a good movie but they had to ruin it by putting modern oppression first than the mass genocide that happened. They even disgraced Anne Frank's story!
It would have been better if they just told her story as is. Maybe have the character "Kitty" appear, not actually alive, but just an imagination of Anne as she writes. So instead of seeing Anne write in her diary, you see her talking to Kitty since she was imagining writing to a friend.
Then at the end, when she enters her last diary entry, she says her goodbyes to Kitty and closes the book for the final time. I'm not really sure how her diary ends, I admit, but something along those lines.
Just keep her story the same. Idk why they had to go this route.
The original diary doesn't really have an ending, since Anne Frank and her family was discovered. It's more like the story just stopped being written in the middle. I like your idea and it could've ended with Anne walking out of the annex while Kitty is sitting on a chair or something and waving goodbye to her.
@@Ellie-lq2ve Yeah it's been awhile since I've read the book but yeah her diary entry literally just ended the same way others did. Not like how its portrayed in the stage play where its abrupt. "Someday I hope--"
The diary of Anne Frank was one of the saddest books I ever read. It is a piece of history. Her name, her memory within that diary will never be forgotten. I'm disgusted at people trying to rewrite her words in the name of inclusivity. This madness has effectively destroyed our society.
that book should be removed from schools, it's that sad.
@@curiousbystander9193it shouldn’t. That’s something part of history that EVERY kid should know about and how AWFUL that time was, especially for her and her family. Maybe not very small kids, but around high school is when it’s best to be taught

The trailer actually starts so good. The animation is beautiful and if they’d just stuck with Anne’s story it could have been a powerful medium to share it with a new generation.
🫂..NEVER...EVER...TOUCH HER EARS....🎧
True. When I saw the first few parts of the trailer I was thinking that it could actually have potential and maybe people were overreacting. But... nope... not at all
@@draculauraxox I honestly had a different idea when I first heard of the premise and thought it was dope. I still hope it'll be okay I haven't seen it so I can't judge. I thought from the title and trailer it was just gonna be Kitty literally searching for Anne. Like a missing episode of Unsolved Mysteries. She goes around Amsterdam, remembering what happened before she went into hiding. Where she could have gone because at the time of her arrest she literally just abruptly stopped writing. It seemed like it was gonna be this sweet wholesome plot. I mean we see Anne in this big suitcase being swept away into the ocean without context.
I remember visiting the place Anne Franck and her family were hiding when I was in high school and I just finished her book a few years ago. Her story is not a fiction, it was what she lived through and unfortunately didn't survive. You can't just "reimagine" someone's life like that. They basically instrumentalized her traumatic experience by turning it into a SJW fan fiction.
"Her story is not just fiction."
Did you accidently say her book was fictional?
You articulated the sad situation much better than anyone could. Thank you. And I would say, not only instrumentalized, but also weaponized her traumatic experience for their own purpose.
It's a disgrace to her memory. Sadly those Nazi soldiers were following orders from a psychopath.
@@ObsessedStephenKingFanatic1974 oops good observation my bad 😅
@@hikari9433 lol its all good.
Honestly, the sad part for me is how beautiful the animation is, because a whole team of animators put their heart and soul into this...
My step dad was Dutch and Anne Frank mentions seeing little Dutch boys in the street below, he was one of them as he lived in the next street. He could never talk about his life during the war except that he lived on cucumbers, rats and cigarettes. He had nicotine poisoning at the age of 4 yrs old. His nightmares throughout his adult life were horrendous. His Mum would tell us what he went through with his older brother as she was high up in the underground so he had many experiences with the SS. Conrad moved to Australia with his family when he was 8 and he never really escaped his memories… I won’t watch this animation from what people have said because it sounds like it belittles the times and what these people went through.
I have only one quote to say.
“Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made.”
JRR Tolkien.
Not an actual Tolkien quote. The closest he comes is in Return of the king, "The shadow that bred them can only mock, it cannot make: not real new things of its own"
An absolutely spot-on statement, regardless of whomever said it.
@@muchachonextdoor5608 Oh? Well my apologies, I looked up quotes and such from him cause I wanted to learn more about him, that one I kept seeing around.
Changing historical events, stories and lessons instead of learning the harsh, terrible truth of things of the past never ever ever works. It makes me angry to the point of tears seeing anyone butchering things like Anne Frank's story.
Me too
As a European who knows the history very well, has seen a lot of camps irl, been to her house and heard stories from my families - this is utterly insane and disturbing
The idea of a diary exploding, trying to look for her owner, and having her frame of reference shaped from her living vicariously through the diary writer's experiences- and now she's looking for her dead owner.. ngl that's fricken cool, I would watch something like that 100%(not to mention, the gorgeous animation)! However, using Anne Frank's, as well as every holocaust victims' experiences, and trying to relate it to modern-day oppression is just the most ridiculous use of this plot. As a "person of colour" who supposedly faces this oppression every day, it's incredibly demeaning to the horrible things Nazi victims had to undergo.... I would seriously reconsider the use of this story, and what message it wants to send to viewers.
The animation is so original and absolutely stunning. The voice cast is on point. This could’ve been such a wonderful idea. Sad
It does look so beautiful, it makes me feel so weird that I kind of want it because it seems like great art other than what it's actually about.
That sucks. I may have to watch it just for that, but ...
Hopefully the creators will come up with a better idea next time.
@@mallorycarpinski1160 I watched it
Just ignore whatever Twitter says
It's a good movie
I absolutely hate this fucking comment
I would say that reimagining real tragedies wouldn’t be something I would personally do as a creative. People go to animated media to escape, but to learn new lessons through new eyes (good example might be Beastars) in a new world where problems from real life are somewhat tweaked but still apply.
I think an animated story about the real life of Anne Frank would’ve been a better choice than retelling and mangling the story, though this certain retelling is through a woke loudspeaker. I’m not sure I would be comfortable even with a “conservative” retelling of a real world tragedy. 9/11 doesn’t need to be reimagined, just create a new story. There’s too many sequels and book-based movies now, I just want to see a group of young conservative filmmakers get enough funding with a compelling new idea. That’s all.
As a Jew, I actually never read the Anne Frank story. Instead I had MY OWN GREAT GRANDMOTHER, grandparents of other friends and family, and Hebrew school who taught me about what happened in the Holocaust. And trust me, Anne Frank doesn't even scratch the surface, it was a hundred times worse then you could imagine.
תודה לאל שהצילנו מאלה שבאו לכלותינו
tbh anne was in a safer place when she wrote her diary. ofc living with constant terror isn’t light stuff.
The detractors of the Anne Frank journal say that it was written in ball pen.
She was a child. She did not have the perspective to fully understand what was going on in hiding, which makes it so sad. She didn’t have the journal at the end to write about the extreme horrors she experienced.
It's still happening to Jews today, in fake countries like "Palestine". Though if you want to hear about the absolute worst of the Holocaust, look up "Ustase".
It wouldve been such a good story if it was about kitty trying to find anne and going the route of saving anne or keeping it bittersweet and true by making kitty find out anne was no longer alive.
I think the idea of a personification on Anne’s diary trying to find her is interesting, especially when it would come to Kitty finding out. But trying to relate the Holocaust to oppression having now is not good.
Once during class I used ‘oppression’ to describe the Holocaust, and my teacher pointed out that oppression isn’t the right word to use. Because it was way more and way worse then just oppression
There are children all over the world that can identify with Anne Frank and her story. It’s important to tell these stories over and over in any format to preserve the memory so we do not repeat history drgradio
The reason Anne Franks diary is such a good book is because of the almost innocent way that it is written. In some ways Anne had to grow up very quickly but at the same time, when you read it, you understand what it was like to be that age, still somewhat a child, in such a terrifying time. To take something like that and make it political and completely take away from what the book is supposed to be making the reader feel, it’s just terribly sad. People who watch that movie are going to think of it in the same context as the book and their messages are completely different.
The pure irony is in the line "They told everyone that we were to blame for all the worlds problems."
There is definitely a modern correlation to that, but it goes right over the heads of those that thought this up.

I busted out laughing when she’s said that Anne Franks story is ingrained in all of us when I saw a video a few months ago of someone having a hard time telling an interviewer who Anne was
The way you just slid into the frame smiling at the end after all that ranting made me giggle.
I read Anne Franks Diary for school in the 8th grade, and is now one of my favorite books. I reread it about 2 weeks ago, so it’s pretty fresh in my mind. This is a complete and utter disgrace to her story. Thank you for all that you do, I had almost completely lost all hope in humanity and then I came across one of your videos and I’ve been watching them ever since. ❤
I read it in eighth grade as well. I am an adult now. I have read it several times since then eighth grade. I had the eyes of Anne since it was around her age, then I reread it around the age Margot was. I reread it after my seven year old son was and saw it through the eyes of Mrs. Van Pels as a mother with a son. Then again, after my four year old girl and boy twins were born with the eyes of a mother of the unknown certainty of the future for her children. Just to think if they were only able to hide just for a few months they all would have lived.
I've been to the 'achterhuis' in Amsterdam several times(I'm Dutch), it's quite intense walking up those steps that Anne had walked.

I'm 41, but I thank God that I had great old school grandparents and parents and I have some sense. My youngest kid is 15 and I teach her real things, history, common sense, even though she goes to public school. We have the "take what you need, and leave the bs" motto.
My parents’ motto to me and my identical twin sister during our public school years was, “Learn it and forget it.”
While we did graduate high school in 2010 in a relatively conservative area of Ohio, we did have a few sprinkles of leftist bull crap to contend with. As honors students, we had an obligation to earn high grades, even if it did mean temporarily injecting our brains with garbage. After the tests were passed and the A’s were received, the garbage was forgotten! We were also blessed with the foresight to not attend college. We were seeing the leftist ideological writing on the wall. Sure, we very easily could have gone to college on full scholarships, but why endure four more years of ever-increasing woke propaganda? Now in our early 30’s, we can happily say that we worked hard in school, got good grades, avoided college and its physical and mental debts, and got great jobs in the end.
Good luck with your 15-year-old. We endured bullying for verbalizing our disbeliefs in the woke crud our teachers were feeding us back in the late 2000’s. I pray your daughter isn’t being bullied, considering that a lot has changed in the almost 13 years since we graduated. Even though modern public school has to be hard to bear on both you and her, the real lessons you teach her outside the public indoctrination system will help her in the long run.
I honestly don't know how you can "re-tell" a true story that happened within living memory.
That was one of the smoothest ad transition I've ever seen
I can't Hollywood is just getting worse and worse
True
It was never really good to begin with tho
Yuh
Why do you think the Anne Frank movie is bad?
@@jamesmorrow1646 are you serious? Watch the video and find out
I was confused at first. I thought this was set during ye old times. But hearing that it’s set in the modern time, and is supposed to reflect the world we live in today is just nothing short of psychopathic. The holocaust is something I can’t even begin to describe, but is nothing short of horrendous. The littlest support that is just a few grains of sand that I can give is that it adapts some excerpts from the diary itself, yet that’s expected. The only form of entertainment that seems to be untouched is some older works. But you know if some people had their way, those would be tampered with as well.
As horrible as the H was....my take away is how badly many must have wished for a firearm as they were lined up naked along a trench waiting for a bullet....
Maybe wouldn't have made much difference, but at least you could die fighting!!!
That's why the Democratic party will never get my vote(that is ..not untill after I'm dead)
The 1959 movie still reigns suppreme. It does the best job in capturing the story of Anne Frank
Never hate Brett’s plugs in every video 😂
It looks so cute, the visuals are amazing, the voice acting is on point, clearly love was put into this but the premise will be what kills it.
I read Anne Frank’s diary in 8th grade and I cried at the end. It was the first time I had heard of her.
🫂🎧...THE RUMORS ABOUT HER EARMUFFS ARE TRUE...
We read it in grade 3 (jewish school) and all got scarred for life
Great segway into the advertisement of the day!
The brick through the flaming window looks mostly peaceful tbh
Why are we reimagining something that everyone wishes was only imagined in the first place?
Great comment, 💙
The perfect transition into sponsor placement will never fail to get a laugh out of me
I need help here, hopefully someone can shine some light for me. I’m a senior in a high school English class who has now found many many repeating introductions to the Holocaust. Obviously, this is a very horrible time of human history and it’s horrifying to anyone who knows the story. My English teacher likes to introduce a lot of controversial topics such as black history month, famous historical literature, and of course the Holocaust. Let’s be aware that an average student such as myself has learned about the Holocaust ever since elementary school, it’s introduced pretty much every year in at least one of your classes. Knowing this, I’m pretty aware of the dangers, and the horrifying experiences that are aligned with this event. However, my teacher constantly introduces books and novels with explicit descriptions which can become very graphic. One of them came from a book called Things Fall Apart by Achinua Achebe (if I remember correctly), and I vividly remember the description of the main character beheading his “son”. He also drank wine from his enemies’ heads on certain occasions as well as the story of two twin children being left in the forest nearby to rot and die because their gods told them they were cursed. I also remember other books the explain a woman’s guts being spread across the street as she is ran over, or more importantly, the countless experiences from Holocaust novels which include: children and adults alike being thrown into a death furnace (their wailing screams included), pyramids of dead bodies (maggots and all), the kidnapping of all Jews, and most memorably; the blood streaks of children spread across the walls of a camp. I am not making any of this up, these were all explained IN DETAIL in separate books/novels. I have an imagination, as we all do, and sometimes it wanders into areas that might create scenes that are not pleasant (in this case, not pleasant in the slightest). I’ve just turned 17, but I feel that even adults would have trouble reading these kinds of books with a straight face. I find it very harsh, and truthfully these books belong in a History class if that. When I spoke to my principle about it, she argued that they might be harsh, but “these things do happen, and we need to introduce them so that it may not be repeated”. I argued that anyone with such a malicious intent could not be saved merely by the introduction of horrible history. They seem to believe that, although they are extremely graphic, they are needed for potentially ill-minded people. To be quite honest, I found this to be such a lame excuse to push-what I believe to be-an agenda. Nobody wants to remember those tragic events, and to push your students to constantly be reminded of it is just asking for mental imbalance. I heard somewhere before that the best way to get rid of bad topics is to simply stop talking about them, yet here we are doing the complete opposite. Maybe some of you could see something I can’t, but the way I see it is that these books are just absolutely horrible. Many other books could get her point across without such graphic and malicious detail. Perhaps I’m being too sensitive, or perhaps I’m just normal and am the only one with the courage to speak out about it. Please let me know how to feel, I’m lost right now and this particular situation isn’t helping in the slightest. I apologize for the lengthy message.
It’s DEFINITELY an agenda. There seems to be some weird push to expose students to unsavory reading materials. There’s a reason why amnesia is a side effect of trauma.
If your principal has that wrong idea, then get your parents involved, address the school board, or even try to reach out to the news. Unfortunately, it’s not easy, but a lot of those horrible events happened because of bullies who received no pushback. The best way to try and change it is by continuing to expose it.
Another seamless transition at 4:09 😂
Let’s just rewrite history to fit our narrative
If we're doing that can we make a movie whose plot it is there's no Molotov Ribbentrop Pact and how that would change Poland 1939 and France 1940?
Why do you think the 1619 Project was made?
🎧.. THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT BRETT...🙄
@James Goodman a movie where poland wins ww2 (:
Hey Brett, love your content. It’s very inspirational of you to speak the truth when others won’t. Thank you for giving us younger people insight, best wishes 😊😁
🙄. WHY CANT WE TOUCH HER EARS...🎧
I didn’t even notice the transition to the sponsor I was so interested
"They told to everyone we were to blame for the world's problems."
I might make myself guilty in the same way this move does, but actually that phrase highly reminds of narratives we find in the present day😥
The idea of Ann franks diary and coming to life looking for it writer is interesting as a concept and potential could be a great story. But they choose to take this direction.
Now do a movie about European Famine and compare it to that one time Popeyes ran out of Chicken sandwiches
We need a film version of the Sad Puppies
LOVE THE CONTENT!!! You've been an inspiration in my life and for the better!! Thank you so much and keep up the good work!!
Truth
Oh no. Not the "modern retelling" thing again 😭
sometimes i feel like i watch her videos just for the smooth ad transitions
This my favorite Anne Frank movie so far and this is part of the Ari Folman-Anne Frank universe
How does she do it everytime so good she just starts the sponsor and you almost do not notice it
🎧..THE EARMUFFS KINDA HYPNOTISE YOU ..THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT BRETT...
Damn. You really make me regain faith in humanity. I'm like eight years older than you, but I look up to you so much and agree with you on so much. I hope people "use you" (in the best way) to learn how to think for themselves and dont just adapt your opinions.
I can't believe they did that
“a retelling of anne frank’s story” sounds so funny lol like her story is an idea that you can mold and craft into your own, like a batman retelling and a mythology retelling
Tht is how many Jews treat the Holocaust. As myth not hard fact. It’s extremely common for them to twist and embellish details to fit their goals at the moment.
Can you imagine, how our ancestors survived real oppression in the 1930s? You know, like: air conditioning. Those were dark, cold times according to The Guardian.
THEY WORE EARMUFFS ALL YEAR ..LIKE BRETT. 🎧
brett always has the best transitions to ads
Best transition to ad I ever saw was when Ben Shapiro moved on to a razor commercial right after a woke feminist showed off her hairy armpits in one of his react videos.
🙄..IF BRETT GOES VOLLEYBALL PONYTAIL... SHE'S CANDACE OWENS...🤽
I just wanna say... THAT SEGWAY FOR THE SPONSER WAS ACTUALLY SO GOOD
The phrase "retelling of the Holocaust" raises a big red flag. And that red flag has a swastika in the center.
Interesting point about seeing horrors unfold. I wasn't aware of the recent shooting at Michigan State University until I came across a Tik Tok of students in a dark room and a guy going to open the door. It's jarring that this is the world we live in where we can open our phones and stream these sort of events for anyone around the world to see.
We live in a time we want to reinvent everything. It still baffles my mind. At one time, not that long ago, some people would be very offended by this. This was a story which many considered sacred to a point.
"that connects her legacy"
by stealing her name but throwing her, her story, and her actual legacy in the trash to be replaced with bad writing and deliberate lies.
Tell me you missed the pint of the movie without telling me you missed the point of the movie
Anne Frank is one of my long-time heroes. I just always remember reading about her and finding her fascinating and also a warrior wise beyond her years when she kept that diary. I am disgusted.
Sorry to break the news but the Anne frank diary is fake
the problem started as soon as they felt like they needed to "retell" her story.
The fact they compared a MASS GENOCIDE OF 20 MILLION PEOPLE! They could have thought of anything else. Just let the poor girl rest
I watched this video and an ad for Jeremy’s Chocolate came up before it XD (I didn’t know Brett was on that ad!)
"Are we surprised?"
Never.
It sickens me to know what Ann Frank went through something she never should've dealt with and living in fear that they down play and in a way them saying screw Anne frank to use her for what they want and its just so messed up
This reminds me when some Italian animators made a Titanic movie without understanding that the Titanic was actually real.
where is anna frank?
"Anne Frank was buried in a mass grave at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany. A marker for Anne and her sister serves as a memorial, but the exact location of their burial at the camp is unknown."
This feels very insensitive. Anne Frank went through so much, and this is how people try to remember her? So sad
