Congratulations to cav I was torn between cav winning and the guy that led from the breakaway managing to get to the end well deservedly, unfortunately one had to lose for one to win. Sometimes sports are so cruel, his face when the race ended is something I won't be able to forget. Fortunately he is young and I'm sure there will be plenty of other TDF for him

These are professional riders it's their job to know everything about a course and how to ride it. And if they don't take notice someone on their team does or should that's what they get paid for. Everyone is talking as if they are 15 year olds that have been caught out by a course they haven't had a chance to inspect etc. I understand they get caught up in a moment but they are professional riders. Some things are out of their control like with the woman and the sign in stage one, but the road and how narrow it is and how much furniture it has doesn't change from when inspected a few days before

I miss Paul Sherwin and Phil Liggett. They provided race play-by-play and also incredible insight into the Tour de France they talked about the course talked about the geography the history around each stages location they did their homework and presented a wonderful tapestry. The current generation of broadcasters presents play-by-play like they're broadcasting hockey game..... Maybe they'll come into their own and mature and become the new Phil and Paul. But there will never be as a dynamic duo as Paul Sherwin and Phil Liggett.
