I was one of the few who had anticipated Italy to win, so much so that I traveled to Italy to watch the final there. My British friends (and other's as well) all pointed to the fact that Chiellini and Bonucci were simply too old to stop younger and faster forwards (Lukaku, for example) from scoring. I was outraged that the English media did not have Italy as one of the favorites despite the record they had coming into the tournament. They focused on the older fact that Italy could not qualify for the world cup and disregarded the recent performance and the stunning play from Mancini's guidance. Also, what was missing is that Italy is always great after devastating circumstances. All you need to look at Italy's last two world cups, each coming from scandals and match fixing and had players having to overcome incredible personal obstacles to win it all. Never underestimate Italy when the odds are too great for them to overcome, as seen here...

@@lamberto6405 I was also one of the few people in my neighbourhood who expected Italy to do well in the tournament. A lot of people used to laugh at me when I told them Italy would advance far in the tournament. But I just knew these players have great character and grinta. Italy was undoubtedly the best Team. I am just so happy for all my Italian friends. After the hell they have experienced in the past 18 months this will give them a light for a bright future. After the letdown against Sweden in 2017 I didn't even dare to dream before last September that Italy could win Euro 2020. Only after their performances in the qualifiers and the Nations League I started to have faith in these guys. Immense, outstanding Roberto Mancini. Chiellini and Bonucci - a phenomenal pair. They both deserved such a trophy before ending their careers. With a better striker Italy would surely have a great chance for WC 2022. @Goal360 Thank you for the amazing video!! It gives me goosebumps and I will never get tired of watching it.

Our team, Czechia, played a friendly in Italy 2 weeks before Euro. We lost 4:0 and Italians played fantastic football. Since then I thought they were going to win the tournament. After their first game against Turkey I was sure they were going to go all the way. And I cheered for them in all their games because I just liked the way they played. After the friendly I thought the Czechs would not be able to compete at Euro but our boys did pretty well in the group, then beat the Dutch in the round of 16. Anyway, forza azzurri! You played with confidence and we played with fear and nerves at time. Want to apologise on behalf of England about the behaviour of a small minority of our fans. Good bless my friend, and good luck against Spain in the nations league semi final and World Cup 2022, I think italy will win both tbh. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️🇮🇹 and to all the Scott’s out there, you fellas needs to start developing your own national football rather than hating on England all the time. I am so happy that the team with the best attitude, the most determination and most heart won. This is the beauty of football. Italy is a place of great culture and its people care very much for their country, they totally deserved it. I hope that football will stay the same with all these new changes going on. First of all, the center backs are aging, but you have to check theyr overall rating. Age is no more a reliable proxy of capability. We had a super champion, but it was the goalkeeper, not very on the spotlight as a role. We had a couple of midfielders like Verratti and Jorgigno, that are top tier. the rest of the team was made of very capable players, and spinazzola surely was in the top tier. But the real top player of all, was the team spirit. It works as a multiplier, and Mancini took care relentlessly of this aspect.
